The Grammys is a joke, it’s never base on how the good the music is, just how much sale or buzz the nominee has generated.

I guess the only question left is: who’s performing?

Anonymous | 12/6/2007, 11:27 pm EST

It’s actually based on votes by industry members.

So if Kanye doesn’t win he’ll pitch a fit? Go Foo Fighters.

anonymous | 12/7/2007, 11:05 am EST

The name of Wilco’s album is “Sky Blue Sky,” NOT “Blue Sky Blue” as you have it listed. God, you’re supposed to be a professional magazine. How do you miss this? Don’t you have copy editors?

The Grammys are irrelevant, just like “The People’s Choice Awards”… What people and who’s choice? It’s just another way for the industry folks to pat each other on the back and hope to rake in a bit more cash because they said someone’s album, DVD, etc. was worthy…

Dear Mr. Sturges,

The Grammy nomination for the band ‘Shiny Toy Guns’ (Electronic/Dance
Album) is not eligible for nomination according to the Grammy
Awards nomination eligibility rules. I am citing the Grammy rule below: 50th Annual Grammy Awards Nominations – For recordings released during the Eligibility Year October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007

The Shiny Toy Guns album ‘We Are Pilots’was released prior to October 1, 2006.
The Shiny Toy Guns band independently released ‘We Are Pilots’with the same track list and completed recordings that
Universal/Motown records re-released under their label (October
17, 2006) The ‘We Are Pilots’ CD by Shiny Toy Guns was available
for digital download sale and full online Internet streaming
prior to October 1, 2006.

Universal/Motown records simply changed the album artwork/cover photograpy for their October 17, 2006 release of the album ‘We Are Pilots’

The ‘We Are Pilots’ Shiny Toy Guns CD was released online by the
band prior to October 1, 2006 and is therefore not eligible for a
Grammy nomination.

AGAIN I REPEAT, FOR THE RECORD:
‘We Are Pilots’ by Shiny Toy Guns – track listing and completed
recorded tracks (as re-released by Universal/Motown records on
October 17, 2006) was released for full Internet online streaming by the band Shiny Toy Guns prior to October 1, 2006. Therefore the ‘We Are Pilots’ CD by Shiny Toy Guns is NOT ELIGIBLE for a Grammy nomination.

Please respond to this E-mail detailing what action the Grammy
Awardes Department intends to take with regards to this matter.

Universal/Motown records was well aware of the fact that Shiny
Toy Guns had released the ‘We Are Pilots’ CD on the Internet
prior to October 1, 2006 (the version that the record company then re-released on October 17, 2006 – with clear intention to attempt a Grammy nomination)

When will the nepotism at the Grammys end?

It is a known fact that Universal Records has invested a large
sum of money into the Shiny Toy Guns band and has not recouped
it’s investment to date, hence (in my opinion) the attempt to
circumvent the Grammy Awards rules.

You may send a response E-mail to my address listed herein.
Written responses via snail mail can be sent to my attorney.

Attn: (RE: Shiny Toy Guns matter)

Thank-you for your immediate attention to this very important
issue. Myself and many other music industry professionals, and
the public at large await the Grammy Awards Departments ruling
and course of action regarding Shiny Toy Guns ‘We Are Pilots’ Grammy nomination.

Sincerely,
DDu B

How can ‘Umbrella’ win best rap/sung collaboration…it has got just two lines by Jay-Z and the rest is carried by Rihanna….if u ask me, it is the worst single ever!!! Even Billy Ray’s ‘Achy Breaky heart’ sounds better than Rihanna!!!

Alex | 2/7/2008, 12:17 am EST

No matter what people say it was Rihanna year and still is with Dont Stop The music olmast reaching # 1 Umbrella was the best song of 2007 it broke so many records and it will swipe the Grammies away! Rihanna is amizing

Weird Kid | 2/9/2008, 2:45 pm EST

I agree the Grammys are a joke. They didn’t nominated Radiohead at all, or put Arcade Fire in the best album category. Plus they have made some of the dumbest mistakes like giving the best hard rock/metal performance to Jethro Tull instead of Metallica. WTF? Plus Clapton won best rock song over Nirvana and Pearl Jam, despite the fact that it was an acoustic rendition of Layla. In other words, the grammys are overrated.

radiohead isnt even nominated for anything…which does not make any sense because they are one of the greatest bands (if not THE greatest) AND they just released a new album that created such a huge buzz in the music industry…i dont understand why they are not nominated.

The biggest-selling album of the year was Josh Groban’s “Noël,” which sold 3.7 million copies despite being released in October according to Nielsen SoundScan. You put Josh Groban to duet with nutcase Bocelli. But let the fool Kanye and Bublé in the auditorium. God sake fool, fix you hearing aide.
I had to put up with 3 friggin hours of rap to hear the last 20 minutes of music. Shit,
The Grammys are “The Dammys” as in Daam Man this sucks!
Hold two award shows one rap and the other real music – see where your money from
ads come’s from.

The 2008 Grammys was amazing!! The performances were great, including Amy Winehouse’s performance live via satellite from London. The artists that won were great, i loved Kanye West’s performance. The award show was just amazing since it was celebrating 50 years.

In regards to the post on Shiny Toy Guns’ nomination and the letter posted here: somebody needs to do some research before writing and sending off a letter without having all the facts. Shiny Toy Guns DID, in fact, “qualify” for a nomination this year. The album “We Are Pilots (V.2)” was re-released under the Universal label in 2007. Although the band released We Are Pilots (V.1) in 2006 under a different label, the Universal recording is NOT identical to the previous release. Listen to both albums. The track listing is not the same, they have several new songs on V.2 that were recorded AFTER signing with Universal, and several songs that appear on the V.1 album are not on V.2. In addition, most, if not all of the songs on V.2 are completely remixed and re-recorded. The V.1 album is a “softer” sound, less intense, and not the same caliber as the V.2 Universal release with it’s strong dance beats, heavy electronics and the overall sound that STG has become known for. Even hits like “Le Disko” are different on the two albums.
Check your facts before sending off such an erroneous letter.
STG is an amazingly talented group with fans across the globe, and they deserved every bit of their Grammy nomination.
I look forward to their new album and hope to see them again at next years’ award show.

Ok…with the 3 hours of crap just to get to Josh Groban it wasn’t even worth it! Amy Winehouse needs to go back into rehab and get off the stage! Five grammy’s went to her!!! Thats outrageous! The grammys suck nowadays…but the best performance was definitly Josh and Andre!!!!!

winehouse is gayy | 2/16/2008, 12:45 am EST
