Single Minded: Ghostface, Scarface, Wyclef Jean, Blake Lewis and Too $hort

12/4/07, 10:21 am EST

Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more.

Ghostface Killah, The Big Doe Rehab [Full Album Stream]
Before this album is half over, Ghostface has blown a guy’s head off, thrown up out a car window while barreling down the BQE and kidnapped a rival mobster’s wife as retribution for a verbal insult. That enormous thud you just heard was the sound of 900 backpacks being dropped, in horror, to the ground.

Wyclef Jean, “Riot” [MySpace]
How did Wyclef end up becoming the last Fugee left standing? That would be like if Bono and the Edge disappeared into obscurity while Larry Mullen, Jr. stuck around to record songs with that guy from System of Down.

Blake Lewis, “Break Anotha” [MySpace]
That hair, those eyes, that horrifying album art. Ladies and … uh, ladies, your American Idol runner-up has arrived. Spoiler alert: that beatboxing? Just as annoying on record.

Scarface, “Never” [Asylum Homepage]
Scarface does the penance for Ghostface’s slugging and drugging. A gorgeous gospel number with a heavy heart and a heavier conscience.

Too $hort, “This My One” [MySpace]
So, let’s see: Ghostface, Scarface and now Too $hort. Apparently, the reason there were hardly any worthwhile hip-hop records released in the last eleven months is because they’re all coming out today.
