Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more.
Pitbull, The Boatlift [Full Album Stream]
Well, here’s one way to ensure good first week sales: release your record on a day when nothing else is coming out. Seriously. Pitbull’s only competition is a Car Talk best-of.
Busta Rhymes & J Dilla, Dillagence [Free Mixtape]
A free, full-length mixtape doesn’t make the loss of Dilla any easier to bear, but it does provide a strong testament to his continued relevance. Also, it’s way better than that Pitbull album.
Sprengjuhollin, “Worry Till Spring” [MySpace]
What else to do on slow release day? Listen to this sweet song of loss and longing and calculate how long it will be before the rest of the world discovers the magnificent Sprengjuhollin.
Saigon, The Moral of the Story [Mixtape]
Major labels fret about the lack of MCs who are both street-proven and socially conscious and then endlessly delay the one record that fills both criteria effortlessly. Saigon claims to be quitting rap in protest, which only proves he’s ready for the big time.
Various Artists, Through the Wilderness: A Tribute to Madonna [MySpace]
Ordinarily indie bands covering pop stars make us kind of queasy, but Giant Drag’s “Oh Father” is sweetly mysterious and Lavender Diamond’s “Like a Prayer” sounds like something you might actually hear in church.
