Christmas came about one month early for someone who posts under the name “Spuffmeister” on the message board of Radiohead fan site AtEase. At some point yesterday, “Spuff” discovered that the $80 discbox, the secondary option to paying what you want for In Rainbows, had arrived at his home a week early. The discbox, you might remember, features In Rainbows on both CD and double vinyl (as opposed to the much-maligned 160kbps MP3 downloads), a hardcover book featuring lyrics and Stanley Donwood’s artwork and, most appetizing, a bonus disc of eight songs not featured on In Rainbows.
Before you go venturing to the Pirate Bay or What.cd to download the second disc, don’t bother. w.a.s.t.e., Radiohead’s own merchandiser, has already contacted Spuff and requested that he (or she) not upload the second disc, forcing a board full of bemoaning AtEasers to wait another week for their own discbox. w.a.s.t.e. also asked Spuff “for the order details so that the dispatch company could be bollocked!” So that’s how the Brits use “bollocked,” interesting. Even though Spuff has stated he will respect and honor w.a.s.t.e.’s request to not share the second disc with others, he did offer a consolation to the message board crew in the form of pictures of the discbox and a description of some of the bonus disc’s tracks. Spoilers ahead …
Regarding the tracks “MK1″ and “MK2,” the lone tracks on the bonus disc that Radiohead fans aren’t familiar with (all the other songs have been performed live by the band), Spuff said “Don’t get too excited!” as the duo are “just minute long fillers.” Cue six-page message board battle regarding whether or not Radiohead is capable of making just “filler.” Regarding the closing track “4 Minute Warning,” which may be the most uplifting song about nuclear warfare ever, Spuffmeister says “4 minute warning is beautiful, a real end of album track …” Spuff couldn’t elaborate on any more tracks because “I really have to go do some work, I will be sacked!” He did, however, leave us with plenty of discbox photos to crush on as we wait for it to arrive in our mailboxes at some point next week.
In other Radiohead news, the first of the band’s 2008 live dates have been announced. During the weekend of June 20th, 2008, Radiohead will play Germany’s Hurricane and Southside Festivals. According to previous reports, Radiohead intend on touring the U.S. in May.
