New Music Tuesdays: Jordin Sparks, Sebastian Bach

11/20/07, 8:01 am EST

According to Rolling Stone’s Christian Hoard, the debut from American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is totally mom-friendly. But thanks to top-flight producers and songwriters, it’s also a decent little pop record. Sebastian Bach’s Angel Down, meanwhile, doesn’t have a whole lot to offer, though three duets with Axl Rose — including a killer cover of “Back in the Saddle Again” — are worth checking out. Christian Hoard, you are the best. I always love your reviews. Too bad they usually always include terrible artists, but I’m sure it isn’t your fault. Rolling Stone just cannot find any fresh and truly talented.

Is there ever going to be a time when Rolling Stone can write a glowing review for a rock album that isn’t made by 4 ugly kids living in some garage. Chances are I’m not going to buy Bach’s album, but the LA Guns made a great album 4 or so years ago and they gave it one star. If the Stones had made that album it would have been on every top ten list that year.

Way to go, RS! Thanks for mailing in a Jordin Sparks review. Compelling stuff. RS is really seeking out the noteworthy, original artistic statements. Another critic name-checking the producers who manufactured the latest product.
