Rock List: Our Favorite Rocker-Actors

11/19/07, 6:54 pm EST

Last Friday, inspired by the I’m Not There feature in the current Rolling Stone, we asked you which musicians you thought were also gifted actors. We read through all your picks, had a movie marathon that included all three House Party films and the entire Ice Cube oeuvre (Anaconda twice!), and now present our official list of the Best Musicians/Actors, from Bowie to Björk, Shakur to Strummer, in special photo gallery form.

Some real questionables on this list – you guys failed to list Jon Bon Jovi, who’s done some good work as well.

Alan | 11/20/2007, 4:39 pm EST

Boy, somebody missed the boat with Madonna and Kristofferson. Both extremely bad actors.

LEVON HELM!

spence | 11/20/2007, 7:46 pm EST

I thought Alicia Keys was pretty good in “Smokin’ Aces,” but we’ll see where she goes from there.

I would also add Mickey Jones, the famous drummer (played for Dylan for a while) who has become a highly recognizable character actor.

The Kid | 11/20/2007, 9:23 pm EST

Prince in Purple Rain

Sam | 11/20/2007, 10:16 pm EST

2Pac, a great actor.

Watch Juice

Sam | 11/20/2007, 10:17 pm EST

and can’t forget will smith, he went platinum and won a grammy before he ever started acting

Sam | 11/20/2007, 10:24 pm EST

where is frank sinatra on this list?

Skippy | 11/20/2007, 11:33 pm EST

No Grace Jones, no sale. This list is made of FAIL and LOSE.

Philbee | 11/21/2007, 1:39 am EST

Madonna and Ringo ranked at all? How about Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Ludacris? Weak list Rolling Stone.

alberto | 11/21/2007, 2:44 am EST

Madonna was great in Dick Tracy. Also in Desperately Seeking Susan, Evita and A League of their own.

Marty J | 11/21/2007, 3:09 am EST

Rappers makes better actors than Rockers. But Bowie in Labyrinth, what a ledge!

FuckYou | 11/21/2007, 3:27 am EST

Gene Simmons in “Dead or Alive”

Popaholic | 11/21/2007, 3:30 am EST

Yes, Bowie’s terrific in everything, and the thick white duke generally plays a strong supporting role.

Twood | 11/21/2007, 4:18 am EST

What about Flea and the rest of the Chilli Peppers in the Chase?

Poiccard | 11/21/2007, 4:40 am EST

What about Bob Dylan in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid?

Charlie Brown | 11/21/2007, 8:01 am EST

Yet again Rolling Stone gives no credit to DAVE MATTHEWS (winn dixie, red fern, episode of house-awesome) They put these “legends” on the list even though they had a 2 minute part in a movie nobody has seen and was a hundred years ago….yet….i am not surprised, this is typical RS. The list should be BEST actor/musicians not oooooo ringo was a beatle and in a shitty movie called caveman!!!

Charlie Brown | 11/21/2007, 8:07 am EST

Sorry Marty J Rappers are probably the worst actors around (minus will smith and mos def) they cant act so they get typecasted into the “thug” role constantly. Look at Soul Plane…there is my point.

dave | 11/21/2007, 9:19 am EST

what about mick jagger performance,Ned kelly ,Free Jack and the stones in the park best film ever

Wolfie | 11/21/2007, 9:43 am EST

BG | 11/21/2007, 10:09 am EST

Jonathan | 11/21/2007, 10:25 am EST

How about Pearl Jam in “Singles?!”
Ha – brilliant cardboard cutout acting!

cory | 11/21/2007, 11:08 am EST

Gans | 11/21/2007, 11:15 am EST

Other great roles by Chili Peppers:

Flea in Back to the Future – Needles!
Anthony Kiedis in Point Break

BIZARRO PEDRO | 11/21/2007, 12:34 pm EST

yea this list was kinda skimped… really no Mark Wahlberg??? thats just strange considering he’s now an Oscar nominated actor… other notables, Prince in Purple Rain, Eminem in 8 mile, Dolly Parton (in anything), Frank Sinatra in From Here to Eternity, and who can forget Mariah Carey in Glitter? ok maybe not her…
