In his first official video statement since he was arrested and charged with a whole litany of weapons felonies, T.I. is obviously a man worn down by his legal struggle. In this lo-fi home movie, the rapper saunters into frame like Hugh Hefner before taking a seat on a couch that is probably worth more than our car. Imprisoned in his gargantuan mansion, a cigar-clutching T.I. tells his fans that this is “a very trying time right now.” T.I. makes sure to say all the right things, including a “thank you to the judge, thank you to the judge” for allowing the rapper to be under house arrest “instead of, you know, the clear alternative.” T.I.’s referring to the Big House, but staring out into T.I.’s cavernous den, it’s pretty clear that T.I. is in The Big House, except in this prison, he’s allowed to walk around in a cushy brown bathrobe as opposed to an orange jumper. Plus, no communal showers!
How is T.I. spending his time under house arrest? “I got a lot time on my hands; doing a lot of reading, doing a lot of writing, working on my next album, it’s called Paper Trail.” Rumor has it T.I. just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and is itching to get started on The Prisoner of Azkaban. As for his “not guilty” plea, T.I. “looks forward to being exonerated on all charges.” He also tells fans to stay tuned to StreetCred.com because there will be more messages, and until then, “don’t believe every thang you read in the papers.” Especially that part about the Potter books.
