Okay, this is a very wild guess, but I’ll take a gamble. 2007 commemorates the 40th anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper’s. Could it be Lennon’s jacket with a pocket watch? Probably not. But I’ve got nothing else. But’s it’s in b & w, so it’s very problematic. But it’s all I got so . . .

No, it’s not Sgt. Pepper’s but there are other pictures of Lennon dressed in tweed with a pocketwatch. Perhaps.

I don’t fuckin’ know!

Jay-Z

Jack White

I don’t know if anybody’s realized this or not, but the White Stripes have never appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone (to my knowledge).

They are the only band today that has successfully created the mythological aura that helped Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin earn such hard core followings.

By refusing to submit to weekly interviews and magazine profiles they have cultivated an image like those of the 60’s music giants.

Jack White is a real artist, and I hope it’s him on the cover.

Jakobi | 11/12/2007, 8:05 pm EST

Yeah Jay-Z sounds plausible.

Second that.

JSW | 11/12/2007, 8:34 pm EST

Kanye West’s mom.

brian gallagher | 11/12/2007, 9:34 pm EST

Is it Axl? Huh is it, is it Axl? God let it be Axl. I miss his pinched nut vocals AYIYIYIYIYI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lena | 11/12/2007, 9:37 pm EST

Yeah, Jay-Z makes sense. They ran Guns and Roses a few months ago, so they probably won’t put Axl on the cover again so soon.

pete doherty | 11/12/2007, 9:50 pm EST

i think its me but i cant remember

s40383 | 11/12/2007, 9:58 pm EST

zenidog | 11/12/2007, 11:21 pm EST

it looks like something Jack White wears. fyi, the stripes have already appered on the cover, suprisingly.

JayW | 11/12/2007, 11:29 pm EST

JD | 11/13/2007, 12:19 am EST

I think it’s Led Zep, an older picture of them. They are having that reunion concert afterall and it’s a big deal.

I don’t recall MJ ever sporting tweed jackets (I could be wrong), but at a glance that would have been my first guess. I’ll say Jack White, but if it’s Led Zep, I’ll buy the printed issue.

Professor Genius | 11/13/2007, 2:27 am EST

It’s Jigga.

Syd Barrett | 11/13/2007, 4:04 am EST

RUSH!!!

Cheesecrop | 11/13/2007, 6:16 am EST

I can tell by the tweed jacket that Rolling Stone has finally answered by pleas, so I shall tell you what’s coming up next. The next issue is being devoted to the 19th century and will be titled: Rock 1800-1899 The Untold History. It is a special issue and will only be available for purchase by people willing to go back to the gold standard.

awesome | 11/13/2007, 7:47 am EST

Jay-Z or Led Zep would make sense.

DeadHorse | 11/13/2007, 9:51 am EST

Anon has short memory, the White Stripes were on the cover in September of 2005; Check yo’ history, man! haha…

Jughead | 11/13/2007, 10:17 am EST

The simplest way to figure out who’s on the cover is to look at the latest RS album reviews. RS will always kiss the ass and give great reviews (undeservedly) of the artist/musician that’s gonna appear on the cover (like with Springsteen and Kid Rock’s recent cover interviews).

Based on this and the recent ass kissing reviews by RS, it will have to be one of the following:

Jay-Z
The Hives
The Eagles
Radiohead

My guess is that it’s Jay-Z. The others won’t dress that way.

skanky | 11/13/2007, 11:03 am EST

easy,,,,,tiny tim!!

DAVID | 11/13/2007, 6:38 pm EST

the white stripes HAVE been on the cover of RS, anon.
