Albumsix.com Is Real, Announces Weezer’s Sixth Album Release Date

11/9/07, 6:04 pm EST

Six months ago, we alerted you to Albumsix.com, and how it mysteriously re-routed visitors to Weezer.com, the official Web page of the band of the same name. After lead singer Rivers Cuomo told Rolling Stone that the band’s sixth album was due in April, we wondered whether Albumsix would finally reveal itself as a hoax or a legitimate site. Today, finally, came an answer. Visitors to the site now are greeted to two album plugs, one for Cuomo’s own Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo and the other for Weezer’s album six, which gets a release date complete with day of the month: April 22nd, 2008. Case closed.

UPDATE: Time to eat some crow. This was posted on Weezer’s official site on November 22nd:
Please note that Weezer and Geffen Records have no affiliation with www.albumsix.com. The new Weezer record is not called “Tout Ensemble” and there is no official release date yet for the album. Remember, when its on Weezer.com, its for sure. (Though I will say, “well played”, to the authors of that site.)

“Make Believe” was an enormous dissapointment, however the media and the glam crowds latched on to it and jizzed over it.

I’m not really sure why, nor do I waste my time wondering… it’s kind of like when Pink Floyd released “Learning to Fly”.

For some reason, too many people catch on to something too late, and when that thing has too little to offer, or in the case of television programs, when they go into sydication as reruns.

Nonetheless, weezer will remain as a romanticized memory of my first girlfriend. Remember how she would make you crazy, remember how she made you scream? …And somehow, you still look back on her as the quintessential factor, that made you realize you were alive for the first time.

That was long ago, and perhaps you and she/he will meet up in your senior years (once the best person you ever met, and now has passed) and somehow, try to capitalize and rekindle that magic.

God bless weezer… hopefully you have a couple of deep, retrospective, and intense moments of survivalist integrity to make your last breaths and hearbeats matter.. and leave your mark on world before you expire.

p.s. …by the way, Rivers, please give Matt a call and try to pull off a commerically viable effort off together, for one last chance? Maybe?

i know this 80 year guy who’s on an oxygen tank. we call him “Old Weezer” He laughs everytime we call him that. He thinks it’s a real kick in the ass!

But sometimes that’s not a good thing because he starts to cough uncontrollably, and a couple of times the old fucker almost wasn’t able to catch his breath.

but i have to say it because i love to make him laugh . . . and gasp for air!!! fuck it, oh well.

I just recently started getting into Weezer, which I think is sad, because I know they have some great material. The song, “Say it Ain’t So,” is one of my favorite songs ever and I really hope that their new album will be better than “Make Believe,” because it really wasn’t very good. I won’t be too harsh because I don’t know their music very well, but I know their “Blue Album,” and I know “Make Believe,” so I know they can improve or maybe try to tap into their sound of old somewhat.

Too bad Make Believe was one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard by a band I truly love. I believe Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars, thats when I lost all confidence in your record reviews.

I will snag Alone, only because of the oddness of the material within.

Here’s hoping Album Six has some good material.
