Michael Jackson Is “Smelly”: Ten Things We Learned From the “Ebony” Cover Story

11/7/07, 6:01 pm EST

To mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of Thriller, Michael Jackson sat down with Ebony for what the magazine is calling his first print interview in a decade (Rolling Stone is told the special Thriller re-release will be coming out early next year, not in December, the month that would mark the album’s true birthday). We scoured the profile for fascinating nuggets and uncovered MJ’s new favorite artists and the story of Off the Wall:

  • Quincy Jones and Steven Spielberg call Jackson “Smelly” in honor of the word MJ — who doesn’t swear much — substitutes for profanity.
  • As he approaches age fifty, Jackson assumes he won’t still be entertaining at eighty: “Not the way James Brown did, or Jackie Wilson did, where they just … killed themselves. … I wish [Brown] could have slowed down and been more relaxed and enjoyed his hard work.”
  • Jackson says MTV has told him they wouldn’t exist without him, even though the network initially refused to air his videos due to his race.
  • Jackson’s recording career began after The Wiz because that’s where he first met Jones. Jackson says he rang up Jones after it wrapped: “I’m a shy person, ESPECIALLY then, I used to not even look at people when they were talking to me, I’m not joking — and I said ‘I’m ready to do an album. Do you think … could you recommend anybody who would be interested in producing it with me or working with me?’ ” Jackson recalls. “[Jones] paused and said, ‘Why don’t you let ME do it?’” The result? Off the Wall.
  • Jackson has studied composition since he was a child and notes “It was Tchaikovsky that influenced me the most.” He says the Nutcracker Suite composer inspired him to sculpt a pop album where every song is a hit — an album that eventually became Thriller.
  • Jackson directs and edits everything himself: “I have five, no six cameras,” he says. “When you’re performing — and I don’t care what kind of performance you are giving — if you don’t capture it properly the people will never see it. It’s the most selfish medium in the world. You’re filming WHAT you want people to see, WHEN you want them to see it, HOW you want them to see it, what JUXTAPOSITION you want them to see.”
  • Jackson thinks Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Akon are “wonderful.”
  • The only cure for the ailing music industry is “just phenomenal, great music. Just reaching the masses. People are still searching,” Jackson says. “There’s not a real musical revolution going on right now, either. But when it’s there, people will break down a wall to get to it.”
  • There are no concrete tour plans in Jackson’s future, despite the fact that he’s working on a new album with Will.i.am and Kanye West. Jackson says he doesn’t care about doing long treks, but loves that touring “sharpens one’s craft beautifully.”
  • Discussing the world at large, Jackson says he is “very concerned about the plight of the international global warming phenomenon” and says we have to fix the problem now. But he doesn’t follow politics. “We don’t look to man to fix the problems of the world, we don’t,” he explains. “They can’t do it. That’s how I see it.”

I think that all of these critics need to leave the situation alone. He is in hiding because of
all of the paparazzi and people stalking him,
so what if he did anything with the little kid.
It is the parents fault for letting the kid sleep
in the same bed with Michael on neverland ranch
while they had their own house on the neverland property. He is an amazing loving caring man.(maybe a little toooo caring) but that’s okay.
I am 13 years old and i’m obsessed with him.
I have every song all albums posters pillows.
I’m hooked my mom says im c-r-a-z-y crazy.lol.
i love him so much. i would give anything to meet him. he is all over my head walls ipod EVERYTHING. he is an amazing artist. i dont care about his lifestyle. i dont care how he looks and what he does, he has a skin diesease and a freakish fetish (with little boys) oh well. thats the little boys parents prob. i love him… i always will…..and why are you perverts out there talking about his penis? that is his business and his private matter how would you like people talking out your genitle on the internet…NOT ME. leave him alone…he’s gone now thanks to all of the critics and haters. they won and now my (p.y.t) is gone..i miss him and i wish i knew what he looked like right now. I MISS YOU MICHAEL!!!!!!!!!!

Michael jackson is not just a singer, but a Godly singer. That is why all these lies are continuously made against him. Remember; Jesus was refered by the pharesis as son of the devil. If people are capable saying that to Jesus, then anything could be said about someone who embraces the same spirit jesus brought. This world does not like jesus and it is filled with untichrist spirit. Michael is only interested in promoting that kind of spirit in the world. It is not just his talent that brought him this much attack on his name; it is also his spiritual back ground. Michael could never be a muslim. He only said he will consider it just to be respectful toward muslim religion. However, michael is convicted in the devine holy spirit that jesus promoted. That’s what makes his music to stay alive. I hope the haters know who they are fighting with, it definately not michael.

I think michael is one of the best persons in the world. However, he was rejected by many unfairly just for being different. The ironic thing about this is that United States supposed to be a democratic country filled with people who brag about freedom, and justice for all. It is a shame that the haters are always using an excuse to attack his name with by extending lies. However, God made michael jackson no man. If michael was not bashed, that means society is healthy. However society is filled with demented people who are waiting something bad to happen in order to learn a simple lesson; RESPECT. May God Bless Michael Jackson and those who are not jealous enough to attack him.

Hip-hop ain't music | 4/11/2008, 2:49 am EST

It’s really pretty bad when a “super star” like Wacko Jacko the molester has to roll that creaking Thriller relic out the door again. It wasn’t selling on it’s own, but they stuck some of those silly hip-hop goofballs on it to generate sales. You have to ask who is actually spurring the sales on Thriller 25. Is it tired old boy chasing MJ? Or is it those silly hip-hoppers driving the sales? MJ did nothing new. Sony put a new wrapper on the old pig and the hip-hop remixers did all the works. Not that it takes a whole lot of work to screw up good music the way they do all the time.

MJ-The King of Pop | 2/22/2008, 9:51 pm EST

Michael Jackson is clearly the best entertainer ever in the WORLD. No one has reached international superstardom as he did. I wish his 2008 album is released soon and that he performs again…seriously, Prince and Madonna are slightly older and even they are performing. MJ knows how to put on the best show ever. I used to not understand the MJ-mania of the 80s/90s, but after watching his performances and interviews on YouTube, I am obsessed with MJ. There is just no one that can match his perfection in singing and dancing. Not only that, Michael Jackson composes his own music (since he was 5 years old). MJ is a child prodigy and clearly a genius. Every single solo album and his early works with the Jackson 5 don’t fail to disappoint me. They are the works of a brilliant mind. Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop; no matter what the media says. I hope people can appreciate and respect MJ more. Without him, there would be no Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Britney, Mariah, Rihanna, etc. Our current music trend as MJ put it has no “revolution.” We need MJ on the scene again to redirect our poor music trend with Miley Cyrus or High School Musical tracks selling tons of albums (which I find ridiculous). MJ is clearly the KING of POP forever!!! I love MJ!

The 750 million records sold was claimed at the World Music Awards, in November of 2006. This figure is based on lifetime sales of albums and singles of The Jackson Five/Jackson’s and as a solo artist - essentially every recording he’s ever released. Although I do believe this figure is an exaggeration. Then again, so is the 1 billion claimed for The Beatles and Elvis. Michael originally signed with Epic Records in 1976, as part of The Jackson’s, and signed a solo deal in 1981, after the success of Off The Wall. As a solo artist at Epic, Jackson sold an extraordinary amount of albums, 175 million copies sold of 8 albums.

1979 Off The Wall 20 million
1982 Thriller 55 million
1987 Bad 32 million
1991 Dangerous 30 million
1995 History 18 million
1997 Blood On The
Dance Floor 6 million
2001 Invincible 8 million
2003 Number Ones 6 million

Not forgetting, he’s sold a mimimum of 60 million singles as a solo artist under Epic Records, that adds upto 235 million records in total.

Pre-allegations of 1993.

Jackson released 4 studio albums; Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad & Dangerous - which sold 49 million copies in the U.S. This averages to 12.25 million per albums in the U.S.

Post allegations of 1993

Jackson released 4 albums; HIStory, Blood On The Dance Floor, Invincible and Number Ones - which sold 7.5 million copies in the U.S. This averages to 1.875 million per album in the U.S.

Total U.S sales for the 8 mentioned albums stand at 56.5 million.

There are many reasons for Jackson’s decline. The appaling marketing of Sony for his post 1993 albums. His unwillingness to tour the U.S. He’s focused way too much on his own personal peculiarities and not nearly enough on his music, and what we’ve seen is a dismantlement of one of the greatest careers in entertainment history.

SHiN | 11/18/2007, 6:52 am EST

mike is the man. unlike ppl nowadays, he didnt give himself the title “king of pop”. it was given to him by his fans. he was found not guilty(which means innocent if u dont know) so lay off the accusations. i never thought id see the day ebony put a “white” man on its cover. i wish the re-release of thriller would come out in december so it would match the anniversary. i can only help but wonder if it will sell the same as before. if “invincible” wouldve sold more (i wonder why ppl didnt like it?) then he might be more famous, if thats even possible. ppl act like thriller is the only album michael made, and its not. all his albums are good. im glad michael still cares about the world. sometimes i wish he wouldve stayed black though. and the bullshit excuse about vertiligo…it doesnt make u look like an asian crossdresser. dont get me wrong, i like michael, but not the transformation. sorry, i believe we’re made the way we are for a reason and shouldnt play god and try to change it.

chello d | 11/14/2007, 4:48 am EST

Take note: MJ was global before both MTV, CNN & Imternet. No one else was golbal before and arguably no one else after him. MJ is a victim of fame and fortune. I will not get into his persomals because everyone has them and if we can see beyond clinton and monica than there is room to c beyond MJs personals. No matter how many albums has sold, no musician has had a greater impact on the world. Before africa had registered on the US foreign policy or SA was liberated from apartheid, MJ penned a song for Africa and undertook a self financed tour of Africa that attracted more people than the pope back in 1991 at his peak. When Madonna comes, she takes a baby but does not want to meet media or the people. PDiddy had to be coersed to come to Africa and he is black as ebony. MJ has to explain himself to no one. After all he has gone, he is only indebted to God, who has not only given talent, nut has protected him from a world filled of haters. MJ will forever be king. I wish media was this critical of things that really make a difference like Bush and the war in Iraq!

TOMTOM:
you are write, its about the “musicanship” not about the number of sold albums…

BUT, the the title - Tke King Of Pop…

Come on… (once again)…

One american tabloid wrote this - “self-styled King Of Pop”… and the other tabloid media staff ab-used it against Michael to emphasize any positivity in his music successes and achievements.

REMEMBER!

Mich ael has never ever named himself - The king of Pop, despite the rumors about Oprah Winfrey interview in 1993, when Michael was to ask her to introduce him - the king of pop.

For the First time, it was Liz Taylor who publicly named Michael the King of Pop, Rock and Soul at AMA 1989…

But the very first time when appeared the title was during BAD tour, fans holding hige banners with - KING OF POP…, you can see it also in the HIStory album booklet, or in any pics from BAD era.

After that since the end of the 80s there had been media which used this title. Up to 1993, when the Self-styled issue appeared for the first time and untill these days it is a knife into Michaels back…

The King of POP is the title for that artist who has achieved something (much) more tan anybody else in music and entertainent.

1/.Michael has the best selling album of all time
2/.Michaels world tours are the biggest ever (for solo artist - his HIStory WT visited over 4.5 million people aound the world - EXCEPT USA !!!)
3/. MJ had up to 1993 the 2 biggest sellers - THRILLER and Bad
4/. MJ has received more awards and achievements than any other personality or artist on the planet….

and so on…

SO, who deserves such title, an artist like him, or Justins, Madonnas, Ushers…, or even faded Elvis in the 60s, and especially in the 70s…?

Michael Jackson is in the music business 40 years, and 4 decades have proved his STATUS - the KING OF POP…

Who claims the opposite … does not know HIStory of music….

tomtom | 11/13/2007, 12:10 am EST

people really have to look at his performances on you tube. they are absofukinglutly amazing. And i say this without owning a single michael jackson album. There is no artist I have ever seen that performs the way he does. None. Think about this, Its completely rediculas that this man manages to have number ones singing about whales and talking about it doesnt matter if your black or white(i only saw the video because it aired on tv, madonna gets on tv when she does something stupid like dress up as christ and jump off a building while fukng a horse).-even when he turned into a white women he sold more than a million albums, even when his nose fell off he sold more than a million albums

I’m really sick of people not giving credit where credit is due. Or having an opinion about the personal life of michael jackson, when they dont know him, never met him, and probably never even read a complete tabloid article about him. Its not michael jacksons suppossed behavior that disgust me as much as they way people act to nothing but hersey. Everyone on here with an opinion on anything more than michael jasckons music- fan or non fan- needs to get it through their head that they dont know michael jackson, and probably never will. So lets keep our thoughts on his performances and on him as an artist. Even if the man only sold one album, there is no denying that he is amazing, now or in any time.

He is the perfection of commerical musicianship. The dancing. The stage shows. The costumes. Think about this when you think of michael jackson you think of an image. his glove. His red leeather jacket. His high water pants and white socks. He managed to do what no other artist can and what is lackinging in music these days. He transceded who he was to become a symbol of everything pop music is. Artist these days cant do that because music is all about being pretty. Its unfortunate that young people these days will never have an artist like michael jackson to revel in. Michael jackson my be the ’self described’ king of pop, as people have only recently started calling him (funny no one took issue with it until recently), but to me he will always be much more than that. He is a symbol of what it means to be turely passionate about u do. What one can accomplish when they do what they love so much to do. And that is more important than simply being labeled the king of pop. or selling 1 gazillion records. MArketing teams can sell a gazillion records only real artists can inspire generations of people.

Brandon | 11/12/2007, 4:19 pm EST

… it’s pretty funny to see how desperate you are in an attempt to reduce Michael as a musician stating…. about YOUTUBE…. in 1983… and your IFs…, come on…
In the past people believed that the sun turned around the earth… and every period and era has something new in development…, so I can say the same…, if there was YOUtube in the 50s, 60s, 70s…, Elvis would be even less average then he was… and the beatles would be the little bees…. (maybe…., just maybe… if there was the YOU Tube…, BTW, its not as powerful as you think…)

Similar moves like Moonwalk created Marcel Mearcau, the famous mime who died recently, and Michael and Marcel admitted that similarity, but Michael gave the static move his rythm and speed + the kids from the streets.

What are you talking about?…. about what Thriller’s peak?

Come on… dude!

Every star has some PR, some management, every little star has strong promotion about the album…, but the problem is with Michael Jackson and you … and you explicitly deny the same methods as all the “artists” had been using…(if I could name this your effort to point out that Michael would be not so famous as he was and is…, btw, why not others could reach anything like that, at least a half of what Michael reached…?)

Oh yes…, MJ and EPIC were trying to re-write HIStory…., hahahah

Are you serious? Without MTV or any other elements (means) people beyond the media like MTV it would be impossible…, but you permanently act some weird role… despite comparing Michael to others like The Beatles, Elvis, Madonna, Prince…, every of them has had the same possibilities, same MTV (ok, beatles and elvis not, but they has the same management strategies…, the same people who were behind the scene, who created the picture which is the same illusion, … imagine if there was the youtube…, come on…, but I don’t insist it is…)

… and if you lived that era = the 80s and MTV, so…, I’m really surprised that you didn’t watch MTV…, you could have your owm experieneces…, not citing a piece of information not confirmed by MTV or anybody else despite the fact that nobody has denied it till today…., once again, please write an email to MTV, ask them about that issu and then post it here, or elsewhere.

By you, the burning Michael
’s head was the TV (PEPSI) commercial campaign??? Because media was interested about Michael more than anybody else…, why dude, because Michael was just a little star, whose era enned in 1984 with Thriller video, or because he was the biggest star on planet…, because from Thriller was sold by 1985 over 30 million copies and the album defeated the Bee Gees with their Saturday Night Fever soundtrack which was meantime the best selller…????

STOP. With such bulls*ts tellers I will not discuss anymore.

And the selling albums.

Well, I said it before. I do not take everything seriosly about some issues, and the 750 million number is not a lie, it is a stupid attempt to emphasize something which doesn’t exist. As well as the bealtes and elvis 1 billion albums, TOTAL NONSENSE.

But YOU CAN NOT DENY the FACT that THRILLER is the Biggest selling album of all time, reaching 55 million copies….

You can not compare Michael and the rest with MJ’s 7+4 officialy released albums, with elvis’s 154 albums (it’s even sick), or the beatles’s at least 30 albums…

MJ’s> at least :
THRILLER = 55 m.
Dangerous = 30
BAD = 30
HIStory = 18 (x2=36)
Off The Wall = 19
Invincible = 10
Blood on the dancefloor = 7
Number Ones = 7

… and the rest 30 million… albums + millions of singles (that is the issue of considering what is the - records - albums or albums and singles together…)

But you say that there are lies repeated as facts…, oh boy…, are you an expert about what is a fact and what is a lie???
Cos it seems to be split personality….

If there were so many lies presented as facts or contrary the facts presented as lies…, I think that we were witnesses during 2005 about the facts and lies…

Period.

Brandon -

Moonwalk -

Like I said IF their was the internet and youtube back in 1983, He wouldnt be as big as he was… Back then rumors and the White Press/White World brought MJ to the next level all because of this exact dance move. Sure I know and YOU know his statement in a book, but does the White World? Nope! I just yet another person on VH1 talk about him creating a new look & new dance move for Motown 25. Like I said IF there was Youtube back in the early 1980’s He wouldnt be half as big as he became. But lets be honest as soon as that moment popped, He didnt do anything to correct anyone either. He even named a Book “Moonwalker”. To this day that his moment in the mainstream press and his own concerts.

But its all built on copying an exact dance move. So why does everyone think of Michael Jackson when it comes to a dance move that was around for 2 decades before MJ did it? It was on TV 4 years before he did it. It was done in Breakin’ & Flashdance better then his copy of it.

- Thriller’s Peak

I am talking about ACTUAL Work! Actual getting up and doing legit promotion with dancing, singing and making music videos. After the Thriller Music Video was Released in Febuary 1984. He started living of the cheap quick easy “Jacko Stunt” for his legacy. NOT working… As soon as he burned his head in the Pepsi Commercial, he was surprised that the press he got for that! He got as much press for that as for his Motown 25. So a bell off and went off in his head, to promote projects with stunts & OR forget working…. just release the “Jacko Stunt”.

Who remembers the early Jacko Stunts that worked before it all crumbled in 1987 - On. Who remembers - 1) MJ got tattoo’d eyeliner on. 2) MJ has Lamma’s & Bubbles instead of normal pets. 3) Alphonzo broke his neck trying to do a Headspin when he was filming the Pepsi Commerical.

Thriller wasn’t that long. About 1.5 Years of Work! He only did 3 music videos, then released a half azz “Human Nature” Video.

First Black MTV Artist.

Me being a 41 year old Black Man who used to breakdance & watch MTV and early cable.. When you see a black video you know and you remember. As soon as we saw one we all talked about it at school.

Mellie Mel was first - Prince was the first in heavy rotation - Eddie Grant was another with a one hit wonder. ALL Before Michael Jackson’s Beat it.

Here is his statement:
“Jackson says MTV has told him they wouldn’t exist without him, even though the network initially refused to air his videos due to his race”

Just the fact he is still trying to flub the facts. The crazy thing is with MTV’s turn over with workers… THEY even sometimes reprint that Michael Jackson was the first. But I think allot of that “flub facts” is because of MJ & Epic trying to rewrite history. Hey maybe MJ & his people wanted to be the first and they were in talks.

But who are you going to chose a guy doing a rip off of West Side Story - everyone dancing OR would you chose for your first artist to test out - Prince who is a Rock Musican - Plays instruments and is like what is on the channel from 1981-1982 and another Eddie Grant’s Song was Hard Guitar & Rock style of a song. Mellie Mel’s “The Message” wasn’t rock but it was a hard street song.

Look at the song MJ’s people chose… Beat It, the song with Eddie Van Halen doing a guitar solo mixed with Mellie Mel’s “The Message” mised with his dance.

You have to cast your mind back to before dance was on MTV. Before MJ changed the network…

* I grew up back then, being Black you know and remember when someone that looks like you is on a All White Music Channel. I can remember Prince’s 1999 was used as a commercial for MTV’s Stereo. They showed 2 TV’s next to each other with Prince from the 1999 video playing in them! THAT MOMENT is or was BIGGER then just having a Black Video played once and awhile, they were using a Black Artist to Promote their channel. This was at the sametime to Premiere “Little Red Corvette”.

The only place I saw recently a MTV owned channel brought up “Black Artist” before MJ on MTV was on VH1. Black Music in the 1980’s - I forget the exact title off hand, but they finally told the truth, that Prince was the first in heavy rotation…

750 Million Albums -

His numbers are a lie. I posted a link from a MJ fan site with the Special Edition numbers added in.

Lets have fun and say Thriller sold 125 Million Albums. It is the biggest selling album of his career. NONE of his other albums come close to this.

Lets say the rest of his albums sold 250 Million Albums

Thats 375 Albums sold in his Solo Career.

Are you telling me The Jacksons & J5 sold….

400 MILLION Albums!!!!!! Thats MORE Then his SOLO Career??????

Please - Now do you see how stupid that LIE of 750 Million Albums is…

The crazy thing is I saw on Showbiz Today about 2 months ago, They said he sold 3 BILLION ALBUMS worldwide.

The media doesnt do their research MJ puts a lie out there and then slowly oever the years people forget & new media forget or lazy to research and just REPEAT the Lie as Fact.

Just like - Moonwalk - Black MTV - Album Sales & “King of Pop” Title. It never ends with a Lazy News Media.

MICHAEL JACKSON IS TRUELY THE EPITAMY OF AN ARTIST.HIS TALENT IS A GIFT 2 THE WORLD AND WE SHOULD NJOY IT AND SHOW OUR LOVE 4 HIM WHILE HE’S STILL ON THIS EARTH.I’M NOT SAYIN EVERYONE SHOULD LIKE M.J.BUT U CANT DENY HIS TALENTS.In CLOSING,STOP THE HATE AND LETS ENJOY HIS GREATNESS!

don | 11/11/2007, 5:28 pm EST

a true legend, amazing that he has sold with the jacksons 750 million discs.

Brandon | 11/11/2007, 3:13 pm EST

JAMES:

Michael has always maintained that his - MOONWALK - was the dance move he took from the kids from the streets, and that means not that he created it as something new!

Have you ever seen The Jackson 5 performance in 1975/76 and their hit - Dancing Machine???
Look at Michael’s electric boogie moves!!! BTW…

“…his peak of Thriller it only lasted from Dec 82 (release of the album) - Feb 84 (Thriller music video)…”

WTF…???

Any other artist have his period of success, but nobody has had such susseccful period wth a single album like Michael, because what you write wouldn’t mean that the Thriller album received 7 Grammys in 1984 (of course if the grammy for 1982 were in february 1983), and all the histeria aroud the world, if the album and Michael Jackson as a Musician and album was average and weak and people wouldn’ buy it!!!

You contradict yourself!!!

Thriller album has resonated anytime with the news about Michael’s music and it is appreciated by all the music experts and media, that’s why they mention album as the ultimate music act of the 80s till these day, not speaking about the selling… of the album…

And about your comments about MTV …., there are only 2 explanations>
1/ Michael was the first black artist on MTV, but that information was given Michael as a fact, and is provided aroud the world without denying it by MTV reps themselves!!! WHY, they have never denied this!!!

2/ Prince is mentioned as the first black artist on MTV in some of his biography books, but MTV never confirmed this!

Other artists were never acklowledged as the / firts black artists on MTV…

SO, who is responsible for answer is - MTV!
Until then, … we can argue about that issue.

And nce againg:

It is not Michael himself who is spreading any information about his success, it his recording company, media and some individuals…, but… there are some undisputed facts:

Michael JACKSON is along with The Beatles and Elvis - THE BIGGEST SELLING ACTS (artists) on planet. (in many aspect better than Beatles and Elvis)

THRILLER is the biggest selling album of ALL TIMEs (at least 55 million sold albums)

Brandon | 11/11/2007, 2:46 pm EST

ANCALIME:

Are you serious or trying to provoke?

Have you ever had any real research of Michael as a musician, or something like that?
Obviously not!

I am not that kind of a fan who will take everything seriously regarding Michael as a musician and his success and records…

BUT, if Michael is presented by Guinness Book with 8 certificates of his records and one of them is fof 104 m. selling of the Thriller album…, come on…, let’s doubt about their credibility as an organization for accepting the worlds records!!!

As for selling of HIStory album and Dangerous…
I don’t know…, but, how can you tell something like that?

Evidently you’ve got a thing against Michael, right?
Because you would know that even in 1995 there was information about Dangerous which had had over 25 million copies sold confirmed!

Bz the end of 1996 from HIStory there were over 18 million copies sold, and because the album is double it means 18*2=36 million single CDs !!!!
That’s the fact (at least The New York Post informed about that!)

Have you ever tried to log in the site RIAA?
There’s nothing…, and their information depends on the information provided by selling numbers from recording companies and retail numbers, but DO NOT FORGET… USA is not the whole world, there’s also Europe and Asia…
RIAA certified HIStory by 1998 - 7 times platinum !!! in USA…!!!

From Dangerous has been definitely sold over 30 million copies…!!!

And what do you mean Michael looking like a ghost as a guest at Jesse Jackson BD party???
Come on…, you’re crazy, realy…

Anyway…, there are a few who are not able to accept Michael is GREAT, especially on the sites like this…, everything positive about MJ is not accepted, because it’s not - tabloid…!

Don’t care…

Gayle | 11/10/2007, 4:10 pm EST

Still the King of Pop.

James | 11/9/2007, 11:07 am EST

LOL yet again, The numbers dont lie. Those numbers added in the special edition which came out a couple years ago.

Peak of Michael Jackson’s Talent with Thriller:
What is funny is if you look at his peak of Thriller it only lasted from Dec 82 (release of the album) - Feb 84 (Thriller music video) Everything else has been “Jacko Stunts” to keep his name in the public eye. The true work was for about a 1.5 year.

Motown 25: “Moonwalk”
If there was a Youtube/Internet back in 1983 he wouldnt be half as be as he was. That “moonwalk” was stolen, thats the moment that brought him to the white masses, but if your a fan of Bboys & Hip Hop you would know that was on TV on Soul Train for years! Imagine the next morning after Motown 25 when the white world is going nuts over a dance which is named after another dance move? Imagine you posting a You Tube clip of Eletric Boogaloo on Soul Train in 1979 doing the same exact move which is the “Backslide”. Would Michael Jackson have gone to the next level with EVERYONE posting examples of this. NOPE!

First Black Artist on MTV:
Know your music history, ignore Epic & Michael Jackson trying to brainwash the public, you print a lie enough times and then even the source ignores the truth.

- Grandmaster Mellie Mel The Furious Five - “The Message” was the FIRST BLACK MUSIC VIDEO on MTV! In the Summer of 1982!

- Prince and the Revolution: Was the FIRST BLACK ARTIST in HEAVY ROTATION on MTV with 2 Music Videos!
-October 1982 - “1999″ Music Video was released onto MTV.
- Febuary 1983 - “Little Red Corvette” onto MTV.

- Eddie Grant “Electric Ave” was released on MTV in the Fall of 1982!

MICHEAL JACKSON’s “Beat It” was released on MTV in March of 1983!

Michael Jackson had the 5th Black Music Video on MTV and he was the 4th Black Artist on MTV… NOT THE FIRST! He wasn’t the first video or the first in heavy rotation artist.

Allot of Smoke & Mirrors and just straight out lies with this delustional guy and his fans!

Ancalime | 11/9/2007, 9:40 am EST

Brandon: that 750 Mio. Number is just as inofficial as the 104 Mio. one. if a pop star needs to throw around those numbers around instead of doing actual music and going on stage, there is something wrong in the state of Denmark PR wise.

BTW, HIStory and Dangerous didn’t sell over 30 Mio. albums each, where have you got that from? Certainly not RIAA. World wide sales are always estimated and therefore inofficial.

Jackson’s PR is really ill-timed. First the heavily airbrushed pictures in Ebony and a few days later he shows up at Jesse Jackson’s b-day party looking like a ghost. Where is the truth in that? Bad PR move, I’d say and ceratinly not convincing to anybody.

shane | 11/9/2007, 7:16 am EST

why you became white.
I LIKE YOU BLACK.

Wendy | 11/9/2007, 5:11 am EST

It’s about time someone put up something positive about the man. I haven’t listened to him much since “HIStory” album, but I can’t deny that the man has talent. He’s very talented, regardless of his personal life, which should be kept separate from his professional life in general. People just need to lay off him too.

Personally, I have a difficult time believing the stuff he was accused of, since he likes kids too much and seems to like to go out of his way to help them. Why would he purposely harm a child? The main thing wrong with Michael, imo, is that he just never grew up himself and still wishes he was a kid too.

aylin | 11/9/2007, 1:45 am EST

It was about time to see/hear something new about/from Michael.
I am glad that he managed to pull himself togather and stood where he belongs - on stage!
Millions are waiting for musical aditions, for rewriting the history…
Michael is lonely solder but is the thoughest ever!
I can’t wait to hear the new album - hopefully it IS new this time.
By the way, the “Ebony” pictures are great. My favorite is the one with the black hat…. :)

Tammy | 11/8/2007, 11:04 pm EST

Michael has spent his entire life giving of himself thru song, dance and humanitarianism for the purpose of bringing joy to the world. He is a complete original with talent that is simply unparalleled. I feel blessed to have witnessed his musical genius unfold. Thank you for the positive article, he truly deserves it!!!

Tammy | 11/8/2007, 11:03 pm EST

Michael has spent his entire life giving of himself thru song, dance and humanitarianism for the purpose of bringing joy to the world. He is a complete original with talent that is simply unparallel. I feel blessed to have witnessed his musical genius unfold. Thank you for the positive article, he truly deserves it!!!

Little Billy | 11/8/2007, 2:38 pm EST

Hey John, I told my mommy about you. She say that you are a bad man who use bad words to make believe he is tough. You also don’t know how to spell and use correct grammar so I think you are a big dummy. Who is Martin Bashir anyways? Is that one of Michael Jackson’s boyfriends? No Michael did sleep with the little boys in his bed when they went over his NeverLand. And so do I! Do you wish you can also go to bed with Michael Jackson too John? That why you so angry? Michael Jackson is the greatest ever! But you John need to listen to more of Michael Jackson music so you can get some love in your heart because you are a grouch. Hooraaayy for Michael!

Hi all! I am a 7 year old boy and I also love Michael Jackson and think he is good looking! I listen to all his stuff and watch his videos. I espcially love when he dances and grabs his crotch and says “yee hee hee”. It excite me so much. He is the best! I can’t wait until his new album comes out! Also Michael is NOT WEIRD! Don’t say that about him! Just because he has a plastic face and loves little boys like me doesn’t mean he is a weirdo. There is nothing wrong with a grown man who likes little children! I wish I can go to Never Land and play with him in bed. That would be sooo coool! I want to play with his animals and go on all his rides! I love you Michael and don’t listen to any of the hate! I am here for you!

Bj | 11/8/2007, 1:16 pm EST

arkvolunteer | 11/8/2007, 1:09 pm EST

I am a 52 yr. old white woman and still get out the VHS tapes with his recorded concerts and enjoy them totally! He is a wonderful entertainer and I think he is a good looking fella (though his nose is a bit small). Michael has millions of fans of all races and ages. I wish him the best of luck and look forward to his new work.

ricardo | 11/8/2007, 12:12 pm EST

This is regarding about all the comments left about MJ album sales. I think everyone out here is not aware that Michael JacKSON was awarded by Guinness World record in 3 diferent ways, 1 - Best selling album of all times 104 million, 2- best selling artirt of all times 750 million copies and the humaniterian award gave more than 300 million for charities. So those number are oficially ok.

KB IN NYC | 11/8/2007, 12:00 pm EST

MJ IS A FREAK SHOW

Brandon | 11/8/2007, 11:46 am EST

… from - THRILLER - has been sold at least 55 million copies - oficially !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Theres obvious jeaulous and jaundice that Michael Jackson is BETTER that any other artist including The Beatles and Elvis…, and the white people and their fans are not able to accept that a black artist is better selling than they were… (in fact, The beatles and Elvis can not be comperable woth Michael, he is admittedly the BEST…, nobody can erach his records, cos there will not be another THRILLER)

Brandon | 11/8/2007, 11:37 am EST

ANCALIME:

Michael has never ever said HIMSELF that HE has sold 750 million albums…!!!!!!

…”promotion “…, maybe, but the ONLY FACT is that Michael is the BIGGEST SELLING RECORDING ARTIST…

THRLILLER is THE BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM of ALL TIME.

Michael Jackson is the ONLY ONE who has sold over 30 million albums from his 4 ordinal albums for each - Thriller, BAD, Dangerous, HIStory !!!

Michael is the only one who has sold over 115 million albums just from his 3 albums…!!!

… and EVERY contemporary star has strong promotion and PR…, look at the american music business.., every music star, Michael is the BRAND himself, despite all the “things”.

Others can have their PR, Michael not????

If the article is a PR, well, anybody can do such PR with any kind of article…

As well as the Beatles and Elvis articles which mention 1 billion number as their album sold copies…, which is DELUSIONAL nonsens, cos phycisally it is impposible to sell such number…, but media and their fans very often use such number… which is barely estimated - it is NONSENS…, but… they abu-use it.

Jessica | 11/8/2007, 11:02 am EST

Ok fellow MJ fans, God love ya, but Michael does not need obsessive support. Whether the other assholes like it or not, he’s on the top right now. So a simple. I love Michael is great. So his fan don’t all look crazy. And you others that get on here to bash Michael, God your lame. Not even worth a retort.

Jessica | 11/8/2007, 10:54 am EST

Dan you shouldn’t have responded to liqiud. That’s what he wanted. I could barely undestand him anyway his head was too far up his ass. At least michael doesn’t have to f-himself. By the way I don’t see anything AT ALL weird about the Mr. Jackson. Sry.

Anonymous | 11/8/2007, 10:48 am EST

I love Michael! Looking good by the way, isn’t he? Comparing the pic of him on the cover and the pic of him on the Thriller album he looks just the same, only dif is his skin color. It sure made my year with his new album coming out!!

nikki | 11/8/2007, 10:44 am EST

dats my nigg fo real doe stop haitn n get a life

Ancalime | 11/8/2007, 10:41 am EST

Brandon: The numbers you quote are estimates and given by team Jackson to the Guinness Book of Records. This 104 mio. number of sales is not official, it is just an “image” number. Worldwide sales are always estimated and therefore not official.

So Jackson claiming that he has 750 Mio. album sales and of that 104 Mio. sales of Thriller is a joke! The guy is delusional to the 3rd degree. This pghotoshoot is nothing but a PR campaign…but we knew that all before. Whether a new album will be released, nobody can say. What’s real is the foreclosure document on neverland which even tells us Jackson’s home address in Washington DC!

dan | 11/8/2007, 10:18 am EST

liquid feces, its a shame when ppl like you have to criticise and demean. yeah i think everyone knows that michael jackson is eccentric and different, but one thing you will never see id michael jackson criticise, demean or bitch about other people. he may be weird and different, but he’s not malicious. i think being malicious and nasty is far worse than being weird. and lets not forget his musical achievements. brilliant artist and performer. he was acquitted in 2005, lets all give him the benefit of the doubt, if you still have doubts that is, and lets all move on and give the man a chance.

Brandon | 11/8/2007, 10:16 am EST

JAMES - 1/8 - 8:48-

… hmm, you picked up some inaccurate information…, the numbers hasnt been updated for over 10 (respectively) to 15 years…

THRILLER - 104 million
Dangerous - 41 million
BAD - 37 million
HIStory - 44 million (22×2)
Off the Wall - 27 million
Invincible - 12 million

… and the rest are other solo album + all the albums with The Jacksons and The Jackson5… and all the singles… = records…

Liquid Feces | 11/8/2007, 10:06 am EST

Wait a minute. Michael Jackson never mentions when he developed his first interest in young boys. I believe that fondling and blowing off young boys is really what helped launch his music career, not Quincy Jones. It gave him self confidence and those boys inspired him to write and produce great music. The song “Billie Jean” was originally named “Billy John” after a young boy he fell in love with. And “Thriller” is really about the thrill he feels when he’s in bed with a naked young boy. If you take the young boys away from, his creativity diminishes. This is why the past few years he hasn’t come out with anything and has become more of a freak. Because he doesn’t have those young boys to inspire him and lift his mood again to write great songs again. He sure loves them young boys!

travis | 11/8/2007, 9:35 am EST

Finally, a positive article about MJ. I will buy his new album as I believe Michael Jackson has great music, regardless of the personal life.

King of pop for sure!

MIckie | 11/8/2007, 9:06 am EST

I Love the positive article to much trash in being spread around. Michaek deserves BETTER. He is one of the most talented gracious and generous MAN to have ever graced this planet. I am so looking forward tosome new magic from Michael to give the music industry a kick in the pants . Love you Michael - You are the ONE and ONLY King of POP forever.

James | 11/8/2007, 8:48 am EST

James | 11/8/2007, 8:21 am EST

What a Delusional Nut!! This LIE of him being the first black artist on MTV is a lie. So his comment about the subject is a joke!! Prince was the first Black Artist to have 2 songs on MTV. “1999″ was released in October 1982. “Little Red Corvette” was released in Febuary 1983. ONE Month before “Beat it” was released on MTV. Before Prince “The Message” by Mellie Mel was actually THE First Black song/video on MTV.

Corey | 11/8/2007, 7:51 am EST

Michael Jackson is doing what God put him here to do–Make excellent music for all of us to enjoy. To all his critics, you guys won’t be happy until he’s gone and then you’ll make documentariesabout his life trying to exploit him more. The world loses alot of great people every year, why can’t we all enjoy this man’s craft now, and put all the made up crap to the side?

Ancalime | 11/8/2007, 5:37 am EST

Jackson told this and some similar stuff 6,7 years ago as well. He is unable to develop and face reality. H acts as he never has had cockups in finances, pr, management and foreclosures. It won’t help - truth hits everybody. Especially popstars with a huge ego and delusions.

Tim Podesta | 11/8/2007, 5:32 am EST

Michael Jackson is such an amazing artist and inspiration to other artists all around the world. Thanks for doing such a balanced interview.

DK | 11/8/2007, 5:15 am EST

Katie | 11/8/2007, 3:13 am EST

Its amazing to me how he’s always the bigger man. With all the shyt ppl throw at him, he never stoops to their level. He is very very strong with what he’s lived through and he stays so faithful and positive. Wow. He is unlike anyone else…Thank God.

Carey | 11/8/2007, 2:17 am EST

After all the horrible things we see people doing to each other, and all the awful things this world has done to Michael, it is so nice to read something good about him. He deserves it!!!

MJ is the Man. Life is tough. Being black is even tougher. God bless MJ.

i love michael jackson and wish him nothing but the best…i know he was victimized by people that weren’t really his friends, but just were after his money…but what goes around, comes around, those people are gonna get their bad karma…i think michael jackson is an amazing human being, to be constantly attacked and yet still be a nice person, i’ll always be a huge fan~

Ryan | 11/8/2007, 12:34 am EST

Robert, Can not AGREE with you more! I can’t wait until I hear something new from MJ.
