Marilyn Manson: “I Can’t Ever Consider Myself a Nihilist”

11/7/07, 5:36 pm EST

Twenty-one artists from Chester Bennington to Jeff Tweedy weighed in with their views on the future of music for Rolling Stone’s current issue. As a bonus, we’ve got a Q&A with Marilyn Manson, who told RS why he’s a glass-half-full guy: “Ultimately, because I’m an artist, I can’t ever consider myself a nihilist, so I suppose I’m optimistic,” he says. “We’re idealistic people who want to spend our time putting ideas into the world, which ends up fucking us over. I hate to play the martyr, but someone has to [laughs].” Click here to read the full interview, and here to check out our other Q&As with Cee-Lo, Mary J. Blige and more.

“It goes back to my most important idea, that artists should be the ones to rule society”

Uh… right. And I suppose you’d be president?

I think “Miss Manson” has a very good and valid points.

I have to agree with Manson. “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” Truly only open minded artistic people understand and acknowledge this quote and relate it to life. I think all of you are just targeting Manson because you automatically view him as a scapegoat and feel threatened by him. So I know you jumped into this article with such negative energy because you have nothing better to do with your time. Well if you hate what he is saying then dont read interviews with him. I’ll just say right now remember your reading the article about him, he’s not reading the article about you. He gets to express his ideas and thoughts because he is a sucessful artist that did take over the world and that has made history. So for being such a moron he sure did capture the world and is doing more with his life then you could ever be doing with your pathetic mortal life.
