Head on over to our Breaking Blog to check out a video and interview with the Budos Band, a Staten Island-based instrumental funk twelve-piece who are currently on the road with labelmates Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. The Band came together at a jam session hosted by Brooklyn Afrobeat legends Antibalas, and count Ethopian funk god Mulatu Astatke and Slayer as major influences.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ROlling Stone for Finally featuring these cats. Catch these guys if they are anywhere near you! Especially this recent mini-tour w/ Sharon Jones. I own their latest album and what a treat it is to listen to repeatedly in my car…

Whether you’re driving down a country road or a major interstate, you feel like you’re in a cop-crook/CHiPs chase scene from Dole-A-Mite or Shaft when listening to this blaring, precise brass….do not miss the Budus Band.

You guys are so great and the guy in the brown leather jacket can play the trumpet like nobody’s business. Can’t wait to hear you on the 8th at Webster Hall!
