
- Garth Brooks has dethroned Elvis Presley to become the best-selling solo artist in history. According to the RIAA, who presented Brooks with a Special Career award for the honor, the country superstar has sold 123 million total units, compared to Elvis’ 118.5 million. “This award reflects the magnitude of the country audience and what they can accomplish when they act together,” Brooks said. His fans, however, are wondering whatever happened to alter-ego Chris Gaines.
- The upcoming Courtney Love-produced Kurt Cobain biopic based on Charles Cross’ 2001 bio Heavier Than Heaven will be the first to feature original Nirvana songs. “Courtney Love has packaged my book rights with Nirvana’s music,” Cross told NME.
- After reuniting at this year’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, Eric Clapton and his former Blind Faith bandmate Steve Winwood will play three shows together next year. The performances — all set for Madison Square Garden — will take place February 25th, 26th and 28th. “Our set at the Crossroads Festival this summer was a real treat, so I expect these shows will be good fun for us and for the fans,” Clapton said in a statement.
- Roseanne Cash is scheduled for brain surgery to remove a “rare but benign condition” that also forced her to cancel tour dates slated for this month. Cash wrote on her Web site she is expected to recover fully and will resume touring next spring to promote Black Cadillac.
- Hawthorne Heights‘ former manager has sued the pop-punk band for breach of contract and several unpaid fees. Last year, the band sued Victory Records and left the label on “anything but amicable” terms after the band’s name was signed without their knowledge to an open letter instructing fans to mess with Ne-Yo discs on store shelves in an attempt to affect the charts.
