For the third installment of our fortieth anniversary issues, Rolling Stone looks deep into our telescope and presents you with the “Indie Rock Universe,” a sprawling nebula of cutting-edge talent, plus a black hole or two. Our thanks to Barney Schmendrick, precocious 8th grader from Silver Springs, Maryland and big Animal Collective fan!

The Bright Eyes Song is called “Four Winds”…Not “Four Windows”…

When did Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco and My Chemical Romance become Indie Rock? Is there such a category called Bullshit Rock because I would think they can be grouped there. Even the Killers I wouldn’t consider indie anymore. More like indie wannabe’s.

Indie rock universe, eh?
Why are major-label bands with very little indie background (ie: Fall Out Boy, Panic, MCR) on this list?
Also, why are the New Pornos grouped with NY artists? AC Newman might live there now, but they are from Vancouver and based out of it for most of their career. Also, all of their members bar one is Canadian.

The new pornographers are from Canada, not New York.

As the previous comments expertly point out, this entire thing is a failure.

those complaining about the FOB/MCR/PATD! need to realize that the people who created this were poking fun at them. going so far as to point out that the only people who think they could classify as indie are the scene-mo kids that buy their angst at Hot Topic. so please, chill out.
