Spears’ “Blackout” Poised to Rule the Charts, While Wal-Mart Clips Eagles’ Wings

11/1/07, 4:09 pm EST

Despite the fact that Britney Spears is putting minimal effort into promoting her new album, she appears to be in command of the Billboard charts. Spears’ Blackout sold 124,000 copies its first day of release, according to the magazine’s Building Chart. By comparison, last week’s album-sales champ, Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride, sold 69,000 copies over the course of that same twenty-four hours. Spears is expected to sell in the ballpark of 350,000 albums her debut week, which would likely give her the top spot on the chart … by default. Industry insiders predict that the Eagles’ new Long Road Out of Eden is selling copies at a rapider pace than Blackout. However, Long Road is only available in Wal-Mart, and in keeping with Wal-tradition, the chain is refusing to report sales on exclusive releases (they withheld information regarding recent Garth Brooks exclusives). So while the Eagles may be, in actuality, this week’s chart kings, it might be Britney who wears the crown next week. Even Spears’ victories are marred by controversy.

The world could use another BRITish invasion.

she’s beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I think after this whole mess is over, she’ll make better records because of the pain!!!

If Alanis is too good for Glen Ballard, Brit should work with him!!!

She’s not a soul singer, but she’s got good enough pipes to be a rocker.

Ballard turned Alanis from a cheesy pop singer into a pretty rockin’ broad.

Even though Brit doesn’t have the voice that Alanis has, she’s got enough to make a hard rock record.

You’re too old for the dance steps, Brit. You look silly. It’s time to rock out!!!

“I said this once and I’ll say it again: You’re not the spokesmodel music.”

Corrected stats - I just heard this today on the radio…
Britney earns $739,000.00 per month. She spends $16,000.00 per month on wardrobe alone, and out of those earnings, she gives $500 of it away to charity. There you have it, Britney fans. Does she care about you (or anything else for that matter) as much as you care about her?

“I said this once and I’ll say it again: You’re not the spokesmodel music.”

“Notshallow”Mr.Tool ? How contradictory. Don’t feel too sorry for her. She only earns about $600,000.00 per month in royalties for doing NOTHING.

I said this once and I’ll say it again: You’re not the spokesmodel music. Whether music is corp Britney or indie that’s external. Let us be honest consumers rather than being a bunch of hypocritical oxymorons. Britney’s made through the dark side and not a lot of women and in the industry have made it that far. Kudos to her for that.

Pretty funny that Wal-Mart witholds sales figures for CDs that they exclusively sell. That means no matter how many CDs the Eagles sell, they won`t even make the Billboard album sales chart at all, because Wal-Mart won`t tell anybody. What were the Eagles thinking when they entered into such an agreement?.

Jamo'n | 11/2/2007, 5:22 pm EST

Britney has the kinds of calves I could lick for a week.

News articles about Britney would be more appropriate for Vanity Fair magazine. I thought that RS was about music and topics of a more serious nature. This only re-emphasizes how commercially saturated the consumer world really is and how the masses who buy into this pretentious trivial fluff are the ones who are blindly shallow.

llwsbrn8 | 11/2/2007, 4:10 pm EST

Everyone knows that the Eagles are vastly superior artists than Ms.Spears, so it really doesn’t matter what the charts reflect

i still think she’s hot! most women are just crazy. brit’s sexy, rich, smokin hot leggy and bat shit crazy! what more do you need? you can take that to bank! btw, why would i want to waste good money on the homeless?

Bob | 11/2/2007, 1:39 pm EST

Make that NO ONE! Rather than buy this piece of junk, take a homeless person to dinner…

Bob | 11/2/2007, 1:28 pm EST

Again, “One one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.” And you can take that to the bank!
