Peter Travers Video Review: “American Gangster,” “Bee Movie”

11/1/07, 6:04 pm EST

American Gangster is Oscar bait for good reason, says Rolling Stone’s movie critic Peter Travers. Denzel Washington masterfully portrays real-life Harlem drug kingpin Frank Lucas, and the film’s nearly three absorbing hours move by swiftly. Travers also has praise for Jerry Seinfeld’s elaborately computer-animated Bee Movie, reading some more adult themes into the kids’ flick. Bee Movie looks like a bomb. I never understood the fascination with Jerry Seinfeld. He’s simply not funny. His show was a success for one reason—Larry David. Once David left and Seinfeld was on his own, the show tanked.

His standup routine is great…if you like your comedy limp, punchless, and completely vanilla.

Hey TPG: Larry David came BACK to “Seinfeld” after he left originally. Seinfeld was co-creator, but he’s “simply not funny”? Strange logic you have there…

C’mon kids… arguing over what’s funny has got be the funniest thing about this exchange.

But.. Jerry IS funny…
