Single Minded: Britney Spears, Eagles, Puscifer, Backstreet Boys and Armor for Sleep

10/30/07, 2:58 pm EST

Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more.

Britney Spears, Blackout [Full Album Stream]
Well, here it is — after all the head-shaving, car-crunching, baby-bailing, Starbucks-drinking, court-cursing and dance-bungling. The most shocking thing about it? It’s actually pretty good.

Backstreet Boys, Unbreakable [Full Stream Album]
Somewhere in a dorm room in Okinawa, two college seniors are preparing for the greatest comeback in YouTube history.

The Eagles, “How Long” [Official Site]
The Eagles’ latest is available only at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, two places that give new meaning to the phrase “you can check out any time you like / but you can never leave.”

Puscifer, V Is for Vagina [Full Album Stream]
Maynard James Keenan pairs intoxicatingly bleak art rock with a bunch of lame jokes about genitalia. You know, totally uncharted terrain for a guy who fronts a band called Tool. One day he will meet Kool Keith, and the two of them will form a rap-rock project called Michael Hunt. The universe will explode shortly thereafter.

Armor for Sleep, Smile for Them [Full Album Stream]
The second song on New Jersey outfit Armor For Sleep’s third album is called “Williamsburg,” which means in five years it’s going to cost them too much to play it.

Britney does not have any singing or songwriting talent. She is a fabricated product of a greedy marketing machine which has sold her “image” for too many years. She might as well just leave the music industry altogether.

Johnny Kickass | 10/30/2007, 6:44 pm EST

The new Britney album is awful. Considering her record company can hire the world’s best producers and songwriters for her, and still make it sound bad…

Totally stale…just recycles all the trends of top 40 dance pop from the last few years – nothing fresh or original about it.

Tricky Dick | 10/31/2007, 1:22 am EST

Gotta luv my slutty gal Brit….hot trax and hot vocals equals one hot momma!

FUCK BRUCE!

SUPERSONIC | 10/31/2007, 8:17 am EST

Hey Maynard, “I” is for “Idiot”

And Brit, do whatever the fuck you want! I think it’s great that you piss so many people off!!! how many other people in pop are controversial, anyway?

she’s controversial without having to rape her fans onstage . . . wait that’s a good idea!!!

don’t leave the music industry, ever! Fuck ‘em if they CAN’T TAKE A JOKE!!!

re: x | 10/31/2007, 9:13 am EST

What a genius! | 10/31/2007, 9:43 am EST

V is for Vagina. Wow! How does he come up with this stuff?

If any regular guy said this around a woman, he’d get his face slapped. but these same “equal rights” broads lay down like 5 dollar whores for this douche. sad.

Hey Johnny, | 10/31/2007, 10:04 am EST

I don’t know what’s sadder: Britney making another record or you going out and buying a copy of it! Nice taste!

“why don’t you leave the WORLD altogether? you won’t be missed!”

Why do you verbally attack commentors who you know nothing about?

JP | 10/31/2007, 11:49 am EST

Britney: Who cares… She’s like 7-Up: Never had it, never will…

Backstreet Boys: Whatever…

The Eagles: Now instead of seeing “If you can read this the bitch fell off” t-shirts on all the corporate bikers, we’ll be forced to see Eagles t-shirts thanks to the impending tour… Now, if Joe Walsh were to reform The James Gang, THAT would be cool…

Puscifer: Maynard, stick to Tool… You obviously have no head for vagina… Yes, the puns were intended…

Armor For Sleep: Who?

flip a coin | 10/31/2007, 11:53 am EST

I wonder how many men would be offended if the album was entitled “V Is For Viagra”.

New Backstreet is the best CD they have had out, in my opinion.

Maynard'sFan | 11/18/2007, 8:10 am EST

I like how the readers gave V is for Vagina a 4 star rating and Rolling Stone gave it 2 & 1/2 stars. Rolling Stone seems to be a little out of touch. Their in bed with the major Britney producing labels anyway.

Crimson79 | 1/16/2008, 12:36 pm EST

Are you kiddng? I still havent heard one good reason why “V” is no good. I bought the album and I have to say it is good on more than one account. First, he did it out of his own wallet, no label. Second, he used an amazing amount of revolving musicians to make it happen. 3rd its done in analog. Anybody remember that? Its what makes better warmer sound. Hence the riduculous bass tones in Queen B. But my favorite is prolly the art work. A complete mockery of the aviation industry and americas long going paranoia. This album is all about something the music industry forgot about along time ago. ART!
