Oxygen Sees CMT’s Sisqo, Raises Them a Coolio in Reality-TV Battle

10/30/07, 12:51 pm EST

The Oxygen network, not to be outdone by CMT and their resurrection of Sisqo, has scrounged up Coolio, Mr. “Gangsta’s Paradise” himself, for a new reality-TV series. Coolio & The Gang (like Kool & The Gang, get it?) will follow the Grammy-winning rapper’s “fantastic voyage” as a single father of six teenage kids while “maintaining his rap career and launching a clothing line.” The “maintaining his rap career” aspect shouldn’t be too hard, as Coolio hasn’t had a noteworthy one since Dangerous Minds was in theaters, but acting fatherly to six teens sounds like a task straight out of that film. A spokeswoman for the Oprah-owned network likened the show to Coolio in a real-life version of My Three Sons, even though The Brady Bunch minus Florence Henderson would’ve been a more accurate comparison. The six half-hour episodes are due to air in the “second quarter of 2008,” which we assume is the spring. This isn’t Coolio’s first foray into reality television; in 2002, “El Cool Magnifico” appeared on both Celebrity Fear Factor and Celebrity Bootcamp, and won the latter. First Sisqo gets airtime, now Coolio. Ini Kamoze better make sure he has cell phone service at all times … the Lifetime Channel may be calling.
