Elvis Replaces Cobain as Top-Earning Dead Rocker, The Who Likely to Tour in ‘08, Live Steve Miller CD/DVD Due in February

  • Elvis Presley has replaced Kurt Cobain at the top of Forbes‘ list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities with an estimated $49 million income. Cobain’s 2006 debut at number one came after Courtney Love sold part of his catalog for a reported $50 million, but the Nirvana frontman didn’t make the cut this year. Other musicians on the list include John Lennon in second place ($44 million), George Harrison at number four ($22 million), Tupac Shakur at eight ($9 million), James Brown at number eleven ($5 million) and Bob Marley right behind him ($4 million).
    • The Steve Miller Band will release Steve Miller Band: Live in Chicago next February, a CD/DVD set of the band’s performance at Chicago’s Ravinia this summer that features “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Take the Money and Run.” Full tracklisting after the jump.
    • Roger Daltrey says the Who will likely tour in 2008. “I think we’ll do some shows next year. We just finished thirteen months of touring all over the States and Europe, and are probably due to go back to Japan and Australia next year,” Daltrey told Reuters. “We don’t want to stop now. We don’t want those long hiatuses that we used to have.”
    • Starbucks’ Hear Music label has signed Hilary McRae as their first developing artist, following agreements with megastars Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. McRae’s album is due next year, but Starbucks customers can download “Consider Me Gone” on November 1st via their Download of the Day program.
    • National Geographic will release U2 3D — an entirely 3-D concert film comprised of footage shot during the band’s South American leg of the Vertigo tour — in late January.
