Annals of Garage Rock: The Sonics Return to Blow Out Eardrums

10/30/07, 5:07 pm EST

True garage rockers know that one of the illest songs on the Nuggets box is “The Witch,” a proto-punk blast from Northwestern garage warriors the Sonics. After a hard slog, the band has reformed to play some New York dates — their first ever — and our own David Fricke has the only interview with frontman Jerry Roslie. Check out the full story here.

next to the beatles and other bands that transend music the sonics are about as important a band as any band at any time in history the were where garage music came from

The Sonics were so far beyond any band during their time that it is not hard to believe that some of you don’t get it. But to “diss” them as a band? Go listen to your fuckin Justin Timberlake records while sittin on the couch in your Kiss shorts!!!

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
In their sixties? You’d never know it
if you heard the audio alone. Hipsters
bands take note: there is a correct
and defined way to play 3 chord rock.
The sonics definitely know the right
way to do it.

to all you ignorant fuckbags: come on up to Seattle and get your ass kicked

p.s. - gene simmons and company put on their girly makeup and heels because they weren’t good enough to cut it straight up. chew on that, and the fact that gene simmons = satan…

So sad to read such comments on the Rolling Stone web site… well… they will never how much of a genius Gerry Roslie really is. The Sonics gave an awesome show in Brooklyn and those who weren’t there will never understand.

all you fuckheads that say that the sonics sucks, are a bunch of bastards. Gene simmons is a fucking wanker. The sonics is better than kiss will ever be..

yeh. rolling stone used to be a commie hippy rag that railed against the establishment. Now YOU’RE THE MAN!!!! sad, sad, sad.

HC Bukowski Jr. | 10/31/2007, 6:46 am EST

Oh no, not more incoherent shit from Seattle. Gene Simmons said it, and I’m starting to agree, Seattle destroyed rock and roll. Well, at least we were able to pull one genius out of the fire. Go FOOs! Come to think of it, he’s actually from Virginia. Yeah, fuck Seattle.
