Vintage Springsteen Photos and Audio of Bruce Talking Bush and New Bands

10/23/07, 5:43 pm EST

As you may have noticed by now, Bruce Springsteen adorns the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone. In his revealing interview, Springsteen discusses the challenge of balancing music and family, as well as his latest album, Magic. But it’s one thing to read the man’s words; it’s another to hear him talk. We’ve been teasing you with promises of exclusive audio from his interview with Rolling Stone’s Joe Levy for the past week, and finally, we’re delivering. But before you click on the clips below, flip through this gallery of vintage Springsteen photographs that track his early days with his first band, the Castiles, his long-haired Seventies phase, and the times he met up with U2 in Europe.

  • Springsteen talks about adding some rarely played classics to his setlist, and how Magic echoes his earlier albums.

  • Bruce discusses a few of his new favorite bands, which include Rise Against and Against Me!.

  • Springsteen talks about what will resonate most about George W. Bush’s legacy: how he was able to pack the Supreme Court with conservative judges.

For almost 30 years, Bruce Springsteen’s music and his performances, represent a lot for me, and for many. He’s still a whole human, who even now is capable of touching us. He has the courage and the strength to sing what some don’t want to hear, but they love! thanks Bruce for the company. You’ve been a friend.

Love Bruce more than words can express. He’s such an inspiration, a legend, a hero.
Always admired and respected him, - always will.

Harvey F | 10/25/2007, 9:04 am EST

Oh, I almost forgot… The greatest live performer in the history of Rock and Roll? Gotta be Bruce.

Harvey F | 10/25/2007, 8:58 am EST

Bruce is great and I’ve been a huge fan for 30+ years. But to say he’s the best, etc. is just not right. His output is paltry compared to Dylan. He’s put out, arguably, six great albums compared to many many more than that for Bob. Dylan’s last three albums are among the best work of his life. Springsteen’s last two, Devils and Dust and Magic (discounting TSSB’s record) are wonderful and are delivering on the promise of all of his earlier work.

But, lose Brendan O’Brien, please. His production is too narrow for Springsteen’s songs. They need to have air to breathe and soar rather than be forced into a small confined, compressed space.

Hey Bruce, shut up and sing!

bigmace21 | 10/25/2007, 7:55 am EST

Bruce is undoubtably the greatest rock showman of all time.
If you have ever experienced his live show you know the feeling of being in the presence of god. That is what they must of felt about Jesus.

We all could only hope to express ourselves the way Bruce has over the last 30+ years. He has set a standard that is unmatched and original. There is only one Elvis, One Beatles, One Frank Sinatra. There will forever only be 1 Bruce Springsteen. Crazy, Wild, Compasionate, Spiritual and Commanding. We all can only hope that Bruce can continue to write and perform for the next 20 years so that my kids generation can understand how much of an influence he has had on music. Rock on!

Random Dude | 10/25/2007, 3:05 am EST

I love Bruce’s music without fail and whole heartedly disagree with Tricky Dick. However not everyone has to like his music. TD obviously doesn’t, but he respects the man. I think Bruce would be happy with that.

Peace

Bruce is still the best. He will always be an inspiration for so many people. His talent continues to grow and his new album is brilliant. Also, he is not a member nor a supporter of the Repugnantcan party (what a genius!). Dick Cheney sucks Satan’s penis!

Asburyboss | 10/24/2007, 7:58 pm EST

the greatest songwriter/ performer of all-time. Who else remained so vibrant after 30+ years? nobody!

The greatest there ever was…and still is.

“In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream…” says it all.

You know it’s funny, Brandon, if Bruce’s glory days are over, then why is he selling out arenas tour after tour? And why is his album number one on the charts? But you’re right, his glory days are over…
