“KISS DYNASTY: Salvation For The Most Crucified Album In the History of Rock ” by Michael W. Mc Keon (a.k.a. Henry Chinaski)

Track 5: “Charisma”

What is it about Gene Simmons that gets you so hot?!

Is it his fortune or his fame?
Is it his money or his name?
Is it his personality?
Or just his sexuality?

What IS HIS CHARISMA?

This song may encapsulate the Gene Simmons phenomenon more than any other. Unlike most of his songs that tell tales of his Sodom and Gomorrah-like sexual excesses, this songs seems to touch down on all the God of Thunder’s life philosophies.

Is it his money, is it his power, is it his intellect, is it his superman-like sexual appetite, is it his incendiary fire breathing stage antics?

Charisma opens with a hard driving “4 to the floor” doom- doom-bat. doom-doom-bat. and is followed 2 bars by a simple, yet effective, double-time semi-muted guitar/bass lick: chunk-a-chunk-a chunk-a-chunk-a, and then the lyrics come in.

Gene, in a very seductive deep voice asks,

“Is it my fortune or my fame
Is it my money or my name
Is it my personality
Or just my sexuality, yeah, yeah
What is my charisma
What is my charisma, yeah

Is it my body or my brain
Do I drive you insane, ha
Is it the power of my touch
Do you need me too much, too much, too much

What is my charisma, what is my, what is my
What is my charisma
Is it my fortune or my fame
What is my, is it my money or my name, charisma, yeah
What is my, yeah, yeah, yeah, charisma
What is my charisma, what is it I’ve got
What is it about me that gets you so hot, hot, yeah . . .

then . . .

BOMBS AWAY!

The first blast of Ace Frehley’s guitar solo sounds like the launching of a missile. The nasty bends and rips of wavy over-driven tones from Ace’s slow-handed slashing and squealing one note to the next, seem to envision a woman in the slow burning throes of orgasm. Ace’s guitar work throughout this song sounds like a man setting strings a flame with burning fingers!.

The song is excellent in getting Gene’s point across. Here I am, take me or leave me.
The tune carries that hard chunk-a chunk-a riff throughout, which gives the song of very rough, hard driving edge, that becomes hypnotic, almost sublime. And with Ace’s sexually charged guitar playing, Gene’s sultry singing and narcissistic musings, this track is a must listen.

They’re the best live band ever. And not because of the stage show, but because they’re the absolute tightest.
