Rock Reality Show Recap: Irv Gotti Trots Out Ja Rule Every Five Minutes on “Gotti’s Way”

10/16/07, 2:42 pm EST

Gotti’s Way tracks Murder Inc. mogul Irv Gotti’s attempts to rebuild his empire and fix his broken home, while our Rock Reality Show Recaps track how many times he breaks out Ja Rule in each episode. Here’s our first report:

Thirty Minutes in Four Sentences: Irv Gotti is not the man he used to be, but he’s still clearly under the impression he’s one of the biggest players in the rap game. He once lorded over a relatively successful roster that boasted Ashanti and Ja Rule and stood trial for federal money-laundering charges, and now the head of Murder Inc. (wasn’t that label named changed to The Inc.!?) is back to prove to the world — and his disgruntled kinda-wife — that he can still paint an album platinum. So what if now he’s got three kids and his wife makes him sleep on the couch? He’s still BFF with Ja!

Does Ja Rule Gotti’s Life?: Is Britney Spears an unfit parent? Prepare to see more Ja Rule here than an Ashanti video. It seems like every scene, the feud-loving rapper shows up in his customary oversized polo, ready to make zero to little sense for the cameras: “Let me tell you something, Gotti,” he shares in this episode. “I’m a beast.” (We repeat, last hit, circa 2002).

Irv’s Industry Advice: We’re pretty sure this line was stolen from 8 Mile, but here it is anyway: “You gonna get one shot,” Gotti says to — you guessed it — Ja (the only other real “stars” in the episode were Russell Simmons and DMX’s wife). “And if you drop the ball in that one shot, they gonna say, ‘homie get out of here.’ ”

Broken Home: After justifying taking on a new mortgage with the claim that at least the house will “get equity,” Irv convinces estranged wife Debbie to go hunting for a “bigger house with a pool” to accommodate their children (and himself, of course). Although hesitant at first (Deb fears that Irv will dump all the payments on her once he moves on), she finally checks out a gorgeous pad and hates it almost as much as she hates her life decisions. “Get a college degree so you don’t have to depend on a man,” she warns daughter Angie earlier in the episode.”

Irv just lost a fan tonight. How could you do the mother of your children sooooo disrespectful? And if he thinks his kids won’t figure it out, then he’s playing them too. Kids are smarter and more observant than what we give them credit for. Irv man, you suck dude!

Who wrote this review? This is truly thw work of a HATER! Irv is cool He keeps it real. Ja may be the best act The Inc has, but so what? Can you do better? I doubt it! 1-Love to Irv, Ja, and the whole Inc. family. whomever wrote this review needs to apply for work in a call center where it doesn’t require much talent.

While the music is hot, I have never been big Irv fan… maybe I think you can build a successful company without the ego… maybe not.. However I like to cheer for the underdog and Ja seems to be that dude. No matter what is said about Ja, his records sales built that company i.e. JayZ/Roc… I watched the show closely and tried to take from it what I could. It’s no “Run’s House” but I was inspired by a black man shown taking care and attempting to build relationships with his kids. However, his disrespect for his wife left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand the GAME and if that is how you want to live your life… be that… but let her go. I question if she were to start dating another dude… and athlete or something.. would he be the same ass. He is doing what he is doing because he feels if he keeps the material things in front of her she won’t leave, i.e. the dangling of a bigger house in front of her, but it would break his ego if someone else started dating her… His relationship with her contradicts the relationship he is attempting to have with his kids. It sends a mix signal and while I would not wish divorce on anyone at least it give a clear definition to the kids as to what is going on. Kids see in black & white… adult create the grey. His kids deserve consistency and anyone of us out there that have married our baby mommas after years of just wasting time to better your kids futures… you can feel what I am talking about!
Lastly, I found the relationship with DMX wife and Irv’s wife interesting… didn’t Ja and DMX have a huge beef as DMX feels Ja stole his style. Not sure if my wife would hang in a camp that I have ill feelings towards but I think DMX & his wife’s relationship could be a whole other reality show… In closing, I agree with the other readers, it was not the best review of a show that I have ever read! Honestly, Irv’s life isn’t the best in terms of celebrity lifestyles. But this show, in terms of the entertainment factor, is a waste. No disrespect to Gotti as a person, but everyone’s life doesn’t make good television. But I wish him much prosperity if he doesn’t make the same mistakes.

By no stretch of the imagination am I Murder, Inc. fan, but even I can respect Gotti for humbling himself on camera and presenting his home situation for what it is. And as far as Ja Rule making so many appearances on what I’d like to point out has been the FIRST AND ONLY episode to air thus far, what in the hell did you expect? The premise of the show is about him re-building Murder, Inc. I think that may require an appearance or two from the label’s line up……am I right, or am I right?

Johnny Kickass | 10/16/2007, 5:03 pm EST
