New Music Tuesdays: Radiohead’s “In Rainbows”

10/16/07, 8:12 am EST

What’s so great about Radiohead’s latest album (besides its variable pricing that puts the listener in charge?): the fact that the songs were originally tested out live, says Rolling Stone’s Joe Levy, who adds that the tracks have more of a groove than the English band have put on record in a while. I find what I am reading here to be saddening. I just watched the video for “Bodysnatchers” and that may very well be the absolute worst song I have ever heard in my entire life.

I am sorry, but I just don’t see how anyone can listen to that rambling incoherent shit and think it is good music. The song has no structure, it’s just noise on top of noise with more noise added in. And what amazes me, is that every other song i’ve ever heard from Radiohead sounds just like it.

I see lots of praise about the lead singers voice and that just completely shocks the hell out of me. I don’t hear “singing” I hear nothing but a kind of whining, screaming, I don’t even know what the hell you would call it, but it’s horrible.

I’m sorry, but Radiohead is one of the worst bands of all time.

Radiohead’s music isn’t for smart people, it’s for all people. They don’t place heiracrchical values on their music or views of society. Everybody can listen to them and appreciate them, if they want to. That’s one reason Radiohead offered the public the freedom to dictate what they wanted to pay for the music…because they aren’t targeting a special class of music listeners. They’re amazing not just because of the music but because of what they stand for ethicaly as professional musicians.

They rarely, if ever, stand on a spoap box and dictate their views but somehow the message comes across clear. Show some heart, look both ways when you cross the street, and come together and help each other. Because, no matter how connected or protected we are throgh technology, this distnce between us is killing us, and before you can blink an eye, what was great about our culture, will have been destroyed.

To Dort…

You’re going to love Ok Computer, i still think it is their best album by far!!!!

I have every single Radiohead album out to date… and i believe them to be one of the greatest bands of our time. Look Thom Yorkes vocals are t for everyone.. some like Ragman prefer the popular Britney Spears come Pussy Cat Dolls vocals i’m sure… Radiohead play some of the most beautiful music ever written.

With a lead guitarist as good as Johnny Greenwood, every song is bound to sound good. With the other members beibg equally as good coupled then to the most beautiful and mystifying lyrics, they are expected to be amazing!

Yes I am a fan of Radiohead, and maybe a little bias to whatever music they release, but no one can deny how musically talented and amazing they are!!

The Church is an overlooked Australian band that is vastly superior to the admirable Radiohead
band. For over 20 years The Church has released dreamy, mystical, mesmerizing, otherworldy, haunting and assuaging CDs. Steve Kilbey is the finest vocalist since John Lennon. Must buy CD’s are “After Everything Now This”, “Uninvited Like The Clouds”, “Forget Yourself”, “Sometime Anywhere” “Priest=Aura” and “Starfish”.

What the hell president were you voting for in 2002? Joe Levy should donate his pay check to a fifth grader who can recite the election years.

I forgot to add; Ragman, you’re a dumb ass.

Walter | 10/17/2007, 5:37 pm EST

OK, you’ve made it clear that Ragman is a dumb ass and you have to have a high I.Q. to appreciated Radio Head (or at least an I.Q. above 80). I understand that Ragman – in my opinion at least – didn’t really give much of a critique of Radio Head or this new album. But in reading the posts from people that like this new album – and Radio Head – I didn’t really understand why this is such great music.

One of my favorite singers is Tom Wait’s and I can give people an understanding to why without just saying; you have to really like great music to like Wait’s. Actually, I don’t think everyone will like Waits (even if they like great music), because he is very abstract and although I think his voice fits his music and is very bluesy and gutsy, isn’t a pretty voice; very heartfelt and brings a meaning to his music that not everyone can understand without listening to him.

I’ve never heard Radio Head but thought it was interesting that they chose to sell their album the way they did and came on-line to read more about their album. Would have been great if I’d heard what Radio Head’s music is like, instead of just reading that I might not be smart enough to listen to them; in fact, I might be a dumb ass.

correction ragman; its for fans who understand music on a higher, more progressive level. not for people with IQ below 80 like yourself.
its for a selective group of ppl with a deep understanding of musical composition.

Pacland | 10/17/2007, 10:07 am EST

Ragman, what else can you listen lately if u have a brain? In Rainbows is a masterpiece….

Pacland | 10/17/2007, 10:06 am EST

Ragman…what else is possible to listen today, if u have some brain?

Dort | 10/16/2007, 8:36 pm EST

I’ve just recently started listening to Radiohead and I love them. The first album I got by them was “Kid A,” and it is amazing. Some of the most original and beautiful music I have listened to in a while. After listening to “Kid A,” I was very anxious to hear Radiohead’s new album “In Rainbows.”
I never had a doubt, “In Rainbows” is amazing. My favorite song is “Nude,” which is so melodic and soothing that it makes me want to put it on and just forget about all the shit going on in the world.
Anyway, Radiohead is amazing so is their new album, and I can’t wait to get into “O.K. Computer” and their other albums.

Oh, amd ragman you’re a dumb ass.

ryno | 10/16/2007, 6:32 pm EST

i thought the same thing…..what 2002 election?

and ragman you don’t know what you’re talking about, that response isn’t even worth validating

radioheadfan | 10/16/2007, 12:38 pm EST

2002 Presidential election? derp

Ragman | 10/16/2007, 12:07 pm EST

There’s nothing great about Radiohead at all. It’s one of the worst bands on the planet. It’s for fans who love to be into bands that suck.
