Madonna Deal Done: Material Mom Signs With Live Nation

10/16/07, 1:20 pm EST

The rumors are true: Madonna is leaving her longtime label Warner Bros. and signing an unprecedented deal with concert-giant Live Nation for an undisclosed amount of money (rumors had pegged it at $120 million over the past several months). “The paradigm in the music business has shifted and as an artist and a businesswoman, I have to move with that shift,” Madonna said in a statement. “For the first time in my career, the way that my music can reach my fans is unlimited. I’ve never wanted to think in a limited way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless. Who knows how my albums will be distributed in the future? That’s what’s exciting about this deal — everything is possible. Live Nation has offered me a true partnership and after twenty-five years in the business, I feel that I deserve that.”

As reported earlier, the ten-year deal will encompass new studio releases, touring, merchandising, a takeover of the Madonna fan club and Web site, DVD releases, TV and film projects, sponsorships and licensing agreements regarding the Madonna name and brand. Live Nation is simultaneously announcing the formation of its Artist Nation division, which will launch with Madonna as its flagship star and oversee her projects. Artist Nation will consist of divisions that handle recorded music, merchandise (physical and online sales), concert ticketing, live-music distribution, and sponsorships and marketing. Live Nation is referring to Artist Nation as “redefining the music industry with a unified rights model,” and the set-up does seek to cover every single aspect of a recording and touring artists’ career.

In her statement, Madonna praised Warner Bros. and confirmed she has a new LP coming out on the label next year: “I appreciate their hard work and value the many relationships I have developed over the years with the label in the U.S. and around the world. I have an album coming out with them next year and I’m excited about it. We still have work to do together.”

reality check madonna may be almost 50 and married and have kids so does gwen stefani shes almost 40 and still have many more years to come in the long run to even match up to her at which point she never will and madonna 120 mil deal is one thing she deserves after 30 years in the industry oh yes and im sure this year will be her year with the right producers and writers she back in the spotlight once again and always will. cause her reinvention course is what she does best.

All the negative crap. Music is to be heard and enjoyed. What has happened to you young punks. She has produced quality sounds and performed top notch stage shows. Enjoy music and stop the negative crap.

Who listens to Madonna anymore when you have Gwen shaking things up. What kid wants to pay to see an almost 50 year old married mother on stage. Some people just don’t have enough money. I hope she bombs like every movie she’s made.

Once again, Madonna proves she’s one step ahead of the rest. In 1995, the glass mirror for CD sales was 15 million here in the U.S. Now it’s 5.8 million. CD sales aren’t going to make her that much money. Madonna knows touring is her bread and butter. Hopefully she still has some good music left in her.

Hey, I’m not a huge fan of hers, but good for her. She’s outlasted all her critics, that’s for sure. I just hope the lady knows when to stop. Doing all those flip flops could get her arthritis you know.

plastfaktor | 10/17/2007, 2:46 am EST

Hey alarmed and psychic V, Lettermen DIDN’T earn $60 M last year, more like $30-40+ million. Madonna earned $70+ million, more than anybody u mentioned save Oprah.. As to other income, Madonna earns BIG from endorsements ($8M from H&M, several mil from Ariake Japan, $15M from Microsoft a few years back for use of Ray of Light for the XP launch), and thru music publishing.

The $120 M covers ONLY 3 albums, and she still stands to retain for herself about 80-90% of her tour grosses(!).. Madonna is brilliant, though this deal is risky for LN and even for her if she doesn’t deliver– but I’m sure they have safety clauses for the deal.. If Madonna REALLY does a world tour (including all continents save Africa and Antartica), she’d pay LN in no time.

Sounds like this live nation is a one stop for all that ecompasses being an artists, sounds good, I hope Madonna continues to make good music, lets face it she is not that young, but that probably will not stop her, in anyway, personally I would like to see her in more movies or directing would be good in my opinion.

Live Nation will make every penny back on a single tour. She is still ahge concert draw. T-shirts, digital downlaods, dvds, Madonna is now the Lillian Vernon of pop music. Flood the market with product someone is bound to purchase something. Unlimited edition with an unlimited supply…

Ryan | 10/16/2007, 6:33 pm EST

Hey retard the alarmed ists

She might not sell 10 million albums like she use to in the U.S., but she still has a 2 million people fan base in the states and about 14 million worldwide. Also, add on top that her concert tours over the past few years have topped close to 600 million.

I think she still is relevant.

jcjohnson63 | 10/16/2007, 6:30 pm EST

bobby-o | 10/16/2007, 5:38 pm EST

she’s a tired old skank, she would have been worth 120 mil maybe when she was a young skank, but now… ridiculous!

the alarmed ists | 10/16/2007, 5:07 pm EST

does this women even make relevant music anymore… at least 120 million dollars relevant? aside from live show grosses, i’m not sure where she even makes money anymore…

Hellon Wheels | 10/16/2007, 1:31 pm EST

to bad this did’nt happen years ago when Mo was in her prime. i hope that she has some more tricks up her sleave. Mo has more talent then most of the twinkies that call themselves pop stars these days.
