
- T.I. was arrested on multiple weapons charges in Atlanta on Saturday for allegedly asking a bodyguard to purchase machine guns and silencers for him. According to authorities, the bodyguard admitted to buying “about nine firearms” for T.I. — a previously convicted felon — in the past and “about seventeen firearms” for members of the MC’s entourage. The arrest caused T.I. to miss that evening’s BET awards, at which he was scheduled to perform. T.I. was also the evening’s most nominated artist, and won two awards.
- Obviously unconcerned with the congressional hip-hop-lyrics hearings, Nas revealed the title of his next record will be Nigga at a concert in New York Friday night. The controversial name was previously intended for Nas’ last LP, Hip-Hop Is Dead.
- Universal Music Chief Doug Morris, who chose not to renew UMG’s multi-year contract with iTunes earlier this year, is enlisting SonyBMG and Warner Music Group as potential partners in the creation of an industry-owned music subscription service that would put 75 percent of the music sold in the U.S. in the trio’s hands, making them iTunes’ most direct competitor.
- The Police have canceled an additional two dates on their European tour due to Sting’s ongoing throat infection. The tour is scheduled to end this weekend, and Live Nation hopes to reschedule the four canceled dates soon.
- AC/DC’s DVD concert retrospective, Plug Me In, is set to shatter international sales records, according to Australia’s The Daily Telegraph. The package comes out tomorrow, and more than 500,000 copies have been pre-ordered around the world.
