Downloading holdout Led Zeppelin announced early this morning that on November 13th, they would finally release their entire catalog to “all” digital music services. From I to Physical Graffiti to How the West Was Won, the Zep discography will be available for both full-album purchases and à la carte downloads. The arrival coincides with the release of LZ’s new greatest-hits album Mothership, which will come out on double-CD that same day — just thirteen days before the band’s big reunion show in London. “We are pleased that the complete Led Zeppelin catalog will now be available digitally,” guitarist Jimmy Page said. “The addition of the digital option will better enable fans to obtain our music in whichever manner that they prefer.” In addition to the MP3s, Led Zeppelin has officially joined the twenty-first century by striking up a deal with Verizon Wireless to start distributing ringtones later this week. Because no cell phone is complete if it’s not screaming out the opening lines of “Black Dog” when it rings.

It’s about time that the monster catalogue by which most other rock music is still measured was made digitally available. Rock’s greatest band, Zep’s enduring and timeless music will never be ‘out of touch’, that’s the reason all the Zep albums in cd form keep selling like hell all these years later. Now, if the kings of pop-rock, the Beatles, follow suit, we will have the two greatest bands in music history fully ushered into the digital age.

Dr. Paul, were you being facetious, when you asked who Led Zeppelin was? I find it hard to belieive. But then again you did spell their name wrong.

you old f%cks need to get with the program. the way that music is listened too and sold has changed. most folks don’t own record players anymore, so vinyl is out of the question, discs are preferable, even though its just not the same experience. the newest trend is downloading, like it or not.

“It never fails everyone sells out in the end, even Led Zep.”
I know. A recording group making its recordings more widely available. What utter tripe! Start playing on street corners, guys. It’s the only way to be a legitimate musician, apparently.

I guess this is the best way to reach a younger audience… (grumble, grumble)
I will always be partial to the Led Zeppelin LPs. My 16th birthday gift from my uncle was the entire LZ catalog on Vinyl. Each LP was the original still in the plastic, having been played ONCE to record onto reel-to-reel and then stored in his darkroom. All the posters, spinning wheels, freakout inserts, etc still intact.
This stuff blew my mind (we’re talking 1986 - the middle of syth pop and corporate rock)
I’m not sure that giving a LZ i-tunes card to my nephew when he turns 16 in a few years will have the same effect.
also surprized that they would agree to buying sinlge tracks, but I guess it’s all business….
