Metallica In The Studio: Working Hard, Air Drumming

10/11/07, 11:06 am EST

The big news in Metallica land, according to a message on the band’s official Web site, is that “there is nothing new to report.” Oh, we disagree. Judging by the pictures posted yesterday on their Web page, the San Francisco metal gods are hard at work on their ninth album, the follow-up to 2003’s St. Anger. The photos show Lars Ulrich air-drumming in the recording room, a shaven James Hetfield thrashing about, wearing a Motörhead shirt. The band assures fans: “Work is continuing and all is good in the Metallica hood.” Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver, a friend of Ulrich’s, recently heard prospective songs and told Rolling Stone that “It’s ridiculous. The demos were sick. Eight-minute songs, all these tempo changes, crazy fast.” There’s still no indication of when the Rick Rubin-produced album will finally be completed, but it’s nice to have proof of progress.

Lars is my idol.

I’m psyched for this new album, with Rick Ruben producing, etc.

I hope they don’t blow it.

I just hope that they can over come the media and totally kick ass on this album drop, and continue there reign over the rock industry.

MM | 10/11/2007, 11:01 pm EST

Well, if Lars only “air drums”, then Metallica can get a real drummer, and the drumming won’t sound so much like a bunch of sloppy shit!

Lets not forget Mr. Bon Jovi himself. Bob Rock. The man who single handedly destroyed the best thrash metal band of all time.

metallica needs to get a time machine to 94-96 an decide to never change there sound ect. but they still kick ass

THEonlyZACKGORT | 3/17/2008, 11:29 am EST

Fast, heavy, tempo-changes, blah blah blah.

I think Metallica is forgetting one KEY element that is found in much of their earlier material —

E P I C

I hope they put a strong emphasis on this with this new album; otherwise, it’ll sound just like St. Anger, which was nothing more than dust in the wind.
