Gee…that means I can pay only a penny for an album. My question is this: How can Radiohead and NIN make enough money to support themselves and their families? Imagine paying what you want for any product and/or service rendered. Everyone… money MUST circulate for the world’s Economony to survive!! If I was a musician, I would want my fans to pay a fair reasonable price for my material; not to rip each other off!! To the record industries: You want to save your industry? Try lowering your prices, so everyone can afford to buy your records at affordable prices while still earning a comfortable profit. To all musicians: Unless you were born rich such as Posh Spice that may be able to afford a hair-brained scheme like Radiohead and NIN is trying to pull, just tell your business managers to get the record industry to lower the prices of your material…it’s foolish to tell people to download illegaly and/or steal your material from retailers. Nothing like trying to send your fans to jail!! Geez…what will you guys think of next!?!

Here’s the deal – when musicians sell via the record company, they make pennies on the dollars that they record compainies make. Artists make money on the tour, not on record sales. If they go direct, even if a fan pays $5 for the album, ALL of that money goes to the artist, rather than the 15 cents that they receive for a $16.00 album. Cut out the middleman; pay the artist – they’re doing the work!

What? Considering artists make $0.67 MAXIMUM per CD, all an artist has to do to be successful is get each person to pay at least that $0.67. Getting $1 per person on average (very feasible since if you like the band you will give at least 5) will mean the artist makes 30% more than the record company gives them.

What if U2 came out wit an album in this manner and said that all proceeds will go to benefit some cause…what will happen then. The potential for this sort of business model is through the roof.

It will surely get rid of crappy artists, plus the focus is back on the music.

Genius Move…genius. The Beatles may have changed music forever, but Radiohead is about to change the music industry forever.

im from pakistan, there is no concept of a record label here, like the one u guys in the west have, they dont make videos for them and all that kind of stuff, pakistani artists, make their living through concerts ONLY ! and still we got some good acts which are listened/accepted worldwide, like Junoon, Strings, Nusrat Fateh Ali khan… etc… well just making u guys know !
