RE:Booz

Hey Booz,

fuck that person who was insensitive about your story about Elvis Costello’s “I want You.” That took a lot of courage to share that. I also got pretty badly hurt about an ex-fiancee. She did me pretty bad, running off with some asshole. And, it hurt real real bad. Like I thought I was going to fuckin’ die! It was weird because when me and this woman first got together, I had just purchased the double Best Of Elvis CD. I had never heard I want you until then, and I just stumbled on it while scanning the tracks for stuff I hadn’t heard before. And while we were just first dating I found I Want You and I played it for her and she fell in love with the song too, because it was so beautiful.
I was caught up in the melody and the mood and I really hadn’t grasped on to the lyrics yet. So I would sing along and seronade her with this. After about a week, she said it’s a beautiful song, but it’s not about good love, but about love gone bad.
Then I realized that she was right. So I would then just play it and sing along without the seranade thing.
When things fell apart two years later, I started listening again and the song just completely shredded me so badly that I couldn’t listen to it without feeling damned near to death.
I just started a band a couple of months ago and I pulled this song out and we started playing it. It was at this time that the emotions reappeared, but now the song was able to heal me.
I know you don’t know who the fuck I am, but I just wanted to tell you that I was equally moved, and in the end the song brought up emotions that I didn’t even know that I hadn’t dealt with, and after a few really teary takes, I let go of a lot of pain. Don’t ever, ever let anyone make you fell ashamed of sharing your feelings like that. Whoever that asshole was, just didn’t understand where you were coming from, but I do.
Rock on and I hope the song brings you the healing power to your life that it brought to mine!

Be Well

“Second Place: “I Want You,” by Elvis Costello. I was going through a painful break-up when Blood and Chocolate was released, and I obsessed on every syllable of that song for weeks. I have rarely heard such palpable, hideously believable pain in a song. “Did you call out his name as he held you down,” indeed.:

Look man, just because you may be a DJ on a crappy top 40 station somehwere doesn’t necesarily mean you know what you’re talking about. And judging from the music you’ve selected from your 25 years on air…I’d say you know NOTHING about music (good music anyway).

Until you acquire some knowledge, how’s about shutting the fuck up.

“You Win Again,” by Hank Williams.

You have no heart
You have no shame
You take true love
And give the blame
I guess that I should not complain
I love you still

Good God, why can’t anyone write lyrics that good anymore? And when he sings the first couplet, you BELIEVE it!!

“She’s Acting Single (I’m Drinking Doubles”) by Gary Stewart

good to see the country-appreciating crowd coming out with “Jolene” “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” (not my personal choice, but still) and others.

and good one Rich about “Smokin’ Gun”. I second that nom since the Stone also didn’t put any pure blues songs on its list. They call themselves a rock adn roll magazine but I think they don’t know what that means anymore.

“Guess you had trouble with the sophisticated part”

Sorry, I didn’t know about some article from 1979, since I was born in 1987. As far as “New York Doll” is concerned, the title has little or nothing to do with the New York Dolls.

As far as this “sophistication” thing is concerned, I would imagine that we’re supposed to believe that you’re somehow a poster boy for it. Take your wrinkly old ass to bed with your wrinly old fat assed wife!!!! Maybe if you wrestle the giant bag of potato chips away from her, maybe you could get some once in a while!!!!

I’m sorry I’m not as PERFECT as you are! Too bad there aren’t more stellar people like you on the Earth! If most of the people in the world were like you, the rest of us would have to jump off of bridges!!!!

Either you’re being dishonest or you are not digging deep enough! It is MOST DEFINITELY used as a verb as well as a noun.

Bludgeon also means (using your words”

“to attack or bully”.

Whne you put the word “to” in front of something it automatically makes it a verb.

“Bludgeon” is a verb also. You can ATTACK with a knife.

First off - everyone is RIGHT: Hank Williams is hands f’ing down the King of Cheating Songs. Who in their right mind can argue with that?

“You Didn’t Need” - Rollins Band, “The End of Silence”

Also, I can’t believe no one has mention “The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia”. Sure it sucks and is a piece of fluff from the woman behind Mama of “Mama’s Family” but that song was fucking HUGE.

“Norweigan Wood ! Not a cheating song.” - Dana a New York Doll.
Er Dana, see the song was posted a few times by other readers ? It’s kind of Rock 101 knowledge that John wrote that song about his affairs while married to his first wife Cyn. Ah, maybe all that smack with the New York Dolls has caught up with you.
John Lennon, Rolling Stone, 1979 -
“Norwegian Wood was about an affair I was having. I was very careful and paranoid because I didn’t want my wife Cyn to know that there was really something going on outside of the household. I’d always had some kind of affair going on, so I was trying to be sophisticated in writing about an affair”
Guess you had trouble with the sophisticated part * coughs *
