Rolling Stones Best U2 For Top-Grossing Tour, Marilyn Manson Meets the Parents, Landmark RIAA Lawsuit Begins

10/3/07, 2:42 pm EST

  • $558,255,524. That’s how much The Rolling Stones pulled in from their Guinness-record-breaking A Bigger Bang tour. That Bill Gates-ian figure, comprised of 144 gigs that stretched from 2005 to August 26th of this year, is what makes the trek the top-grossing tour in history, beating out previous record holder U2’s Vertigo jaunt by more than $150 million.
  • Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye is still alive, despite being pronounced dead by reputable news sites Wikipedia and MySpace. After the rumors hit fever pitch, the Baltimore Sun called the MacKaye residence, only to be told by the singer “I am still alive.”
  • In what probably was a lot funnier than Meet The Fockers, Marilyn Manson met the parents of his underage girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood. So what does Manson and the Woods talk about to break the ice? Evidently, vampires. Manson and Mr. Wood fervently discussed Dracula, the actress told Wonderland magazine, as her dad once played the caped bloodsucker onstage.
  • Despite contributing “We don’t need no education” to Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall Part 2,” the graduation rate from the Islington Green student choir ended up being surprisingly high. So where are they now?
  • The first trial concerning the illegal downloading of music is underway in Duluth, Minnesota. Jammie Thomas is accused by the RIAA of violating the copyright of 1,702 songs that she acquired (illegally) on the file-sharing network Kazaa. The RIAA is seeking $750 to $30,000 per song. Thomas is just one of 26,000 people sued by the record industry group for similar violations.

best tix at U2 were $50
stones were $250+
not hard to figure out who’s going to make more.
Maybe you guys can give another 5star review to another mediocre solo album of Mick’s

Assuming all the money made from the tour was from ticket sales alone(which favors higher number for ticket sales) 558,255,524/136.63 comes out to 4.085 million tickets sold. Not too shabby. I wonder how that compares to other musicians.

Evan Rachel Wood is not, indeed, “underaged.” According to IMDB she was born Sept 7, 1987 which means she just made 20. Manson is definately dating a younger woman but not, as this paragraph reads, illegally.

Reefer Dude | 10/3/2007, 3:32 pm EST

How the hell does Marilyn Manson get such a hot, young, piece of ass in Evan Rachel Wood? The friggin guy looks like a ghoul, the walking dead. I don’t get it. Is it the schlong factor?

Elvis | 10/3/2007, 3:28 pm EST

I, however, am DEAD.

Bob Grzech | 10/3/2007, 3:23 pm EST

The Stones get richer! That’s news? What your article failed to mention was that the average Stones ticket was $136.63. This is the real news: artists charging exorbitant amounts. Of course, I had to go to MSNBC for an Associated Press article to find that out.

Ian MacKaye | 10/3/2007, 3:05 pm EST

I’m telling you dammit, I’M ALIVE!
