Robert Plant: No Led Zeppelin Tour

9/28/07, 10:48 am EST

Robert Plant has confirmed there will be no Led Zeppelin tour — or at least, he’s not planning on one (“Not for me but I can’t speak for anyone else,” he told the U.K.’s Daily Express). After news broke that Zep would reunite with Jason Bonham on drums for November 26th’s Ahmet Ertegun tribute at London’s O2 Arena, the inevitable speculation began that the band would follow up the gig with a tour — the fervor for tickets to their one-off gig shut down two Web sites affiliated with the show, and 20 million fans applied for a chance to nab tickets. “We need to do one last great show, because we’ve done some shows and they’ve been crap,” Plant told Express. The Zeppelin frontman went on to say that he worries the touring life doesn’t suit him now that he’s getting older. “When I do come back from touring I’m shocked to find a lot of my mates tend to be going to bed far too early and that means I should probably be doing the same. Maybe I should stop having a good time and get old.”

C’mon Rob! You were the greatest rock vocalist ….

I want to see a Led Zep gig live! At least once in my life.

Zofomofo | 1/19/2009, 4:55 pm EST

Plant is the class act of Rock music.
Remember John Bonham was Plants personal friend before Zep.
Plus he has pursued the Zeppelin dream of experimenting and not selling out.
His Mighty Rearranger album is the best effort of any Zeppelin member and rates up there with Zep albums.
When he tours, he does awesome re-arrangements of Zep tunes, and I watch all the lame fans who never really got Zep in the first place, whining, “It don’t sound like the record!”
Well, guess what Zep never sounded like the record either.
Besides Page and Plant did tour right before the Clarksdale album and sounded amazing. Sure I missed JP Jones, but they were better than when I saw Zep live back in the day.
Leave Plant alone. If he were any better he would be a God. :)

imre | 12/14/2008, 11:07 pm EST

Robert,

You should tour and don’t let society tell you that it’s time to go to bed. You didn’t have to work at a mills hours a day for 40 years, so yeah, you could easily go touring. Worried about a blister on your finger or something?

john | 12/3/2008, 5:28 am EST

I think freddy Mercury would be ashamed of robert plant for giving up.

Anonymous | 12/2/2008, 3:25 am EST

I think that Robert Plant should tour with Zeppelin. I mean the music is timeless and the fans want to see a tour. The rest of the band is willing to do it. That tells me that the rest of the band wants to give the fans that good timeless Zeppelin music and Robert Plant is being a putz about it. What a shame if the rest of the band has to replace him. I would have thought that Plant would want to perform that music that he helped write and that he would want to give that experience to the fans and leave his mark on the newer generation of fans.Paul McCartney was right in saying “What’s happened to Planty?” indeed, what has happened to Robert Plant for turning his back on that music, and his fans.

Zoso | 10/30/2008, 8:12 pm EST

Hey( im 15) Okay, led zeplin has been my favorite band of all time since the time i knew wat music was. When i heard that they were touring one last time i fell out of my chair i was so happy. I play bass and the majority of my songs i play is led zep, i basically worship you guys. i Come on the web tonight to search for tickets for the tour and i come across rumors about robert plant saying no he isnt going to do it… first off who cares if u are too old or if u feel as if u havent grown up the point is your fans love you and would literally do ANYHTING to see u in concert. 2nd u would just make SOOO much more money and if its not money ur concerned about think about the music industry nowa-days compared to the music industry 30-40 years ago… kids walk around singing Rap becuase they think its cool and they think they are musically talented bcuz they can repeat a few simple lyrics that are completely simple minded from some doofus that just recited from sumone who actually wrote it… pertaining to not caring about money, you could most definatly revolutionize some kids who dont like Rock or u could inspire other kids who arent intrested at all in music and/or u could leave us kids who love your music and the music of other legends with an amazing thing that we(us of this generation)would get to experience, something that i literally pray for everynight. Please Robert Plant I and the World who muses to your time of music all Pray to the Rock Gods that you WILL do one last tour, For the sake of the music industry and the sake of us who were unfortunate to not have been born during that time, Please we pray, show us of this generation how we should “Wind down the road”.

steve | 10/29/2008, 1:03 pm EST

Robert we need you please reconsider

No one cares- | 10/10/2008, 7:29 pm EST

Some of Plants biggest hits as a solo artist included Jimmy Page either cutting the song with or dubbing in his part from afar. Plant uses Zeppelin Music in his nancing around with the country girl yet he refuses to make the fans happy with a few months of his time. The same fans that made him a millionare over time. ” It’s never been about the fans” was a quote I recently saw. My assumption is that now that Jimmy is back and healthy Percy can’t fathom having to share the lime light with JPJ and JP. He has been doing his solo thing to long. So the hell woth him and rock on with another singer and lets get some new material.

stop playing with my emotions | 10/1/2008, 10:18 pm EST

Part of me doesnt beleive him and thinks he is bluffing, and part of me is giving up on ever seeing zeppelin live. I dont understand the mind of Plant, I know hes getting old but one last reunited TOUR of zeppelin makkes so much sense and they would make millions. Plant just do it dude. For all your fans, otherwise I will be forced to watch someone else replace you. And I will see Jimmy Page play live before I die.

jacob | 9/30/2008, 9:22 pm EST

i love how plant is keeping this whole thing from happening. I’m a HUGE fan of zepp, and beings is i’m only fifteen, ive never gotten to see a gig. i play guitar and most of the things i play are zepp. and if i had the chance i play with those guys in an instant, i just cant see why plant wont do the dang show. he sang all those years. why cant he do it for ONE more tour. seeing one of those gigs would do enough for me the rest of my life.(or they could just invite me to their houses, either one works…i would love to jam with page) -JACOB B.

hanrahan38 | 9/28/2008, 7:56 pm EST

They shouldn’t do a tour for the fans who have seen them in their glory days. They should do it for people like me, kids who love to see led zeppelin live, and help revive good music in the world of kids today. Other then people like me, everyone else listens to sh** music

jay | 9/22/2008, 10:13 pm EST

Do you think that robert pland would mind giving me a autograght on a led zepplien poster? at a robert plant and alison klauss?

ivan & miecke | 8/4/2008, 3:39 am EST

we think u guys are the tits… so come to south africa and u will place a ledengary footprint. much love the doggggggs

annie | 7/6/2008, 7:09 pm EST

why be so hard on the guy? i give him credit for trying new avenues, instead of stating in the same time warp.enjoy what was but try someting new, you might like it even better!

Boo Hoo | 5/15/2008, 10:49 am EST

What a bunch of selfish, greedy jerkoffs we find on this board. If Plant doesn’t want to tour, then it’s his decision. Better that than have him give halfhearted performances and damage the legacy. I would dread the prospect of a Zep reunion tour with a silver haired Jimmy Page and a “can’t quite hit the high notes” Robert Plant trying to relive the glories of their youth. I’d much rather remember them from the ’70’s than have a watered down money machine (a la The Police, Van Halen, The Eagles, The Stones, The Who, etc.) hit the road. Besides, it will never be Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. You wanna boycott the Plant/Krauss tour? Go ahead. It’ll just be a few less drunken Philistines shouting for “Stairway” to clutter the audience.

VK | 4/23/2008, 7:47 pm EST

One tour and go out with a bang ! Ok so maybe a new triple studio CD also or is that just being greedy ? :) I really hope it happens as Zeppelin continues to add to my life and a gig would just be the icing on the cake. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll be majorly disappointed but R, J amd JP (and J if you are reading this) thanks for making a difference !

Steve [Pakribriius Fatihead] | 3/31/2008, 10:05 pm EST

Say Robert, how many born-again Christians do you know who have gone out of their way to DEFEND “Stairway to Heaven”? Well, I sure as hell HAVE in my arena!
C’mon, we put our time, money, and energies into Zeppelin. Look, Alison is great, but we paid our time in blood to make Zeppelin what it is today. It is only fair we see one last tour–age 55

john | 3/11/2008, 8:06 am EST

I understand Robert Plant’s decision which I beleive stems from his loyalty to his friend John Bonham. Without John, Zep is not the same. He is a very talented individual who has experimented as a solo artist and is now collaberating with another musician. As much as we all want to see Zep again, we need to understand that Zep represented a portion of his musicial career and that he is not looking to cash in on a final farewell tour.

kira | 3/7/2008, 4:15 pm EST

I love Robert Plant, but I have to say that if he decides to NOT go on tour with Zeppelin, I will have lost all faith in him…Think of all the fans that are dying to see Zeppelin…come on dude, get your stuff together.

Rita | 3/3/2008, 4:43 pm EST

I am so dazed and confused? What happened? I was really looking forward to a live version of the Lemon Song….

Austin | 3/3/2008, 12:30 pm EST

I don’t understand Robert Plant, you would think that he would want to tour with his old band. Instead he wants to tour to promote his new album. I think Zeppelin Fans should boycott the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss tour. Just not go to that tour at all. Its Not that I dont like that album, I think its decent. But this is a chance of a life time to reunite with Led Zeppelin. Come on.

miecke wessels | 2/13/2008, 5:07 am EST

i am coming from south african.. and our afrikaners will die to see u gyse live it will be the best.. so please u gyse think about it.. led zeplen is the legend that will never fade

J.V.G. | 2/9/2008, 9:41 pm EST

It would be a great idea to give those who did not have the luck of being born at their time to see them live. I see that lots of classic rock bands are stil playing, and if i every have a chance of being at a Led Zeppelin concert here in the USA i would pay whatever amount it is to see them.

Dale | 2/2/2008, 11:48 pm EST

Too old to tour??? That is not a valid reason to not tour. Jethro Tull has been on the road for years. They have been around as long as Zeppelin. Age is not a factor. I’ve seen Tull multiple times in recent years and they still put on a great show, I’m sure Zeppelin could do the same.

fan | 1/4/2008, 3:06 pm EST

come to clarksdale, ms please. robert you always do so bring the whole gang to ground zero for old times sake.

Paul Nugent | 1/4/2008, 6:02 am EST

I love LZ and always will. I`m 48 but I dont feel old. Robert, Jimmy John and Jason; pleeeze tour and stop in Australia guys..it will be the only time in my life that I saw Led Zepplin Live.

suzy-q | 12/30/2007, 1:39 am EST

zepplin now!!!!!!! we need a tour. please don’t let us down. If the stones can do it so can you!!!!!!

ShabZ | 12/18/2007, 7:25 am EST

Led Zeppelin SHOULD go on tour!!!! Dont forget India on the way!!!

Tyler | 12/14/2007, 11:21 pm EST

Led Zeppelin has to tour. they need to think about the other couple million fans that didnt go to the concert. its going to suck if they dont go on tour!

JOB | 12/12/2007, 12:31 pm EST

Hey boys do a tour and give half the $$$ to the families of the Mississippi bluesman you got all your riffs from. They are still poor and could use the moiney!

Its okay to borrow just put a little bit back!

darek | 12/6/2007, 5:55 pm EST

wische you were where (in Poland)

njames | 12/4/2007, 11:14 pm EST

i think it’s great that they’re coming back to do anything at all, we should appreciate that rather than selfishly demanding more. I wish you the best, Zep!

HerbyDNYC | 11/27/2007, 9:46 am EST

Enough is enough. Let the guys retire from live performances. They were the best at what they did and they left at the top of their game. God knows they’re wealthy enough. Led Zeppelin is not The Eagles. Plant and Page did some nice post-Zep work together, Jimmy Page continued the Zep tradition with his Black Crowes gigs, but as far as a full-blown reunion tour, I don’t see it. Why watch the mighty Zeppelin go down like the Hindenburg on the cover of Zep I? If Plant can’t hit the notes, then the songs do NOT remain the same. One last BLOWOUT gig for Ahmet (RIP) then kiss us all goodnite.

jeff bb | 11/21/2007, 1:59 pm EST

i love zeppelin! the US needs a tour! rock and roll is the only thing that makes sence anymore.
robert plant will never get old, he’s way to cool.
SO GIVE US A SHOW!

Zep. Fan | 11/12/2007, 9:54 pm EST

Man!! give all of us who could have never seen Zeppelin a chance to have the experience, its times like this I get my hopes of seeing a great band up then I get bummed out,I wish id have been born about 25 years earlier, then I could go to all the great shows I wanted to.

Marina | 11/11/2007, 6:10 am EST

C’mon Led Zep - come to South Africa!

Burnflag | 11/10/2007, 11:12 pm EST

damn, there better be a godamn tour. you cant play one show and let the rest of the fucking world just die, we need Zep now with all this other pop bullshit you hear

Stephen | 11/8/2007, 10:06 am EST

I dunno. Robert, I love you, but we are your audience, the people who gave you a reason to live. We at least deserve a chance to see you on stage one last time; when you’re dead, you’re dead.

Pissed Andee | 11/2/2007, 4:56 pm EST

I am fuckin’ infuriated.

I don’t care about a fuckin’ dvd or a pay-per-view.. I want some fuckin’ live music.. whats the point of watching a dvd of a live performance any way? its nothign liek being there. and it’s not exactly liek i have a bunch of money to go to the u.k. and see them anyway.

RG | 10/24/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Plant needs to get over himself and let the rest of the world enjoy the ZEP experience that JP and JPJ seem to want to give us.

RG | 10/24/2007, 3:13 pm EST

Plant needs to get over himself and let the rest of the world enjoy the ZEP experience that JP and JPJ seem to want to give us.

Mike from Iowa | 10/3/2007, 11:28 am EST

If there’s no tour then this bitch better be pay-per-view or the DVD better be out by f-ing Christmas of this year! There’s a zillion fans out there, and to rob them of an opportunity to see this reunion is a shame of all shames.

Feller | 10/1/2007, 1:00 pm EST

with all due respect robert, i call bullshit.

hopefully you’ll make it to south florida, unlike the rest of the touring world. (i’m looking at you van halen!)

Barry Champlain | 9/28/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Look at the Stones; they’re ten years older. Any rocker who’s able to stand up without falling down is going to want to play out.

Look at Ozzy, he’s from the same exact era as Zeppelin and he’s still rocking out!

I’m not worried in the leat bit; they will rock!

JBK~Surf City Sounds Plus >>>> | 9/28/2007, 4:45 pm EST

What if their one off gig goes flat when the neo-LZ plays at the benefit next month? Maybe we should wish for that! :) ! They could still do a “One Last Great Show Tour” until RP is satisfied that they finally got everything right…Just sayin’… :) !
As for that “old” excuse, it’s lightweight whining….Look at those classic blues and jazz masters, they play as long as they can into their 70’s, 80’s, etc…The music is good for longevity…Wasn’t it Billy Shakespeare who said, “If music is the food of life, then play on”…Enjoy! ~JBK

Johnny Kickass | 9/28/2007, 4:33 pm EST

I don’t believe him. I have good reason to believe they’re planning a tour.

INFINITY | 9/28/2007, 2:07 pm EST

we all know old is a state of mind-some.one could be 19 chronilogic years and tour with a rock band and simply feel and or act old—also energy can be put to different directions other then touring and one need not equate that with naps,geritol-or stair lifts—most of the world does not tour and also do not feel old because they don`t—I AM SURE ROBERT HAS SOMETHINGS HE MAY BE INTERESTED IN GETTIN SATISFIED AT LAST————

jb | 9/28/2007, 1:51 pm EST

can we really take anything Plant says at face value these days….wasn’t he the one who claimed Zep would never ever ever be seen on any type of live platform ever again?

Rev Al Bum | 9/28/2007, 12:10 pm EST

Bobby-

Take a nap!
