Rob, Thanks to the online world of hype in the blogosphere, the current state of popular music is experienced with bands becoming “in” or “out” with a very high turnover ratio. While the “hipster era” phenomenon is fantastic for exposing new bands, the rapid spread of negative hype can also adversely affect a band’s future; sometimes to the extent that many people have formed their opinions on particular bands without ever hearing them. Nowhere is this trend more apparent than in New York City. My question is this: What would be your advice for an up-and-coming band in NYC, or anywhere else for that matter?

There’s no dout that Leonard Cohen should be in the Hall of Fame. Secondly, Roger Barrett deserved more than he got. And the question I pose to you is, why did RS not give him his due? Is it because the lack of info into his private life, or just a blatent disregard for music?

Rob,
You pick the categories and then declare the winner:
1) Pete Doherty vs Courtney Love
2) Dane Cook vs Jimmy Fallon
3) “Turtle” vs Johnny “Drama”
4) Pamela Anderson vs Charo
5) Paula Abdul vs Britney Spears

in your opinion, what is the most underrated TV show that has appeared this year and how long before it gets taken off the air.

When American Idol reveals that a singer is voted off, why do they make them then sing the song and performance that all the voters hated so much AGAIN?

If you were given one weeknight where you could put 6 30-minute sitcoms from any era on TV, what would they be (specific episodes) and why.

If you could have complete creative control of RS for “The Rob Sheffield Issue”, what would the theme be, interview subjects, guest contributors, etc…basically your concept for your ultimate issue?

Some “High Fidelity” questions for you, Rob:
Top 5 Bands or singers that had a great first album but terrible second album.
Top 5 Guilty pleasure songs of all time.
Top 5 quotations from any Rock Star in history-could be inspiring, meaningful, stupid,…)

Who do you think is the most overrated musician in Rock?
Most underrated?
And who did you think would be huge but never made it?

Has Rolling Stone ever considered having a regular TV show that featured live performances, interviews, music/TV/DVD reviews, social/political commentary-basically what’s inside the mag, but on a weekly one hour show?

I’m an ELO fan as well and have a legitimate question: Why aren’t they at least nominated for induction into the Hall? I am a rock n roll fan from the inception of the Beatles to the present day and guess what? I have more ELO albums then anyone else, except maybe the Beatles. They rock! They always did. Can you honestly say Donna Summer rocks more than ELO?

I agree, SVB 2002. Do you even know what rock’n'roll is anymore, Rob?

Rob, what is your problem with Jeff Lynne? Your review of the Travelling Wilbury’s box set was sickening. Two stars?! Because of Jeff’s producton? You and Rolling Stone mag can all go to hell! Madonna nominated to go into sothe Rock Hall? Beastie Boys? I know it’s Jann and critics like you who vote, so it explains why Jeff/ELO aren’t even nominated. SVB 2002
