
- Looks like post-VMAs fallout hasn’t destroyed Britney Spears‘ mojo: “Gimme More” resides at number three on iTunes’ top songs chart this morning, two days after it was added to the store. The track is also iTunes’ number one ringtone, and has climbed to number eighteen on Radio & Records’ Top 40 National Airplay Chart after three weeks. The track has slipped one place to number seventeen on this week’s Billboard Pop 100 Airplay chart, however.
- Lollapalooza has confirmed its fourth run in Chicago will take place August 1-3, 2008. No acts have been announced yet.
- The Smashing Pumpkins have issued a statement addressing the death of a twenty-year-old fan at their show earlier this week: “The Smashing Pumpkins were deeply saddened to learn about the passing of a young man who attended their Vancouver show Monday night. As they and everyone else await news from the investigation into the nature of his passing, the band want to express their sincerest condolences to his family and friends.”
- Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin was banned for life from Graceland after jumping in the pool on the estate’s premises without permission earlier this week. The band’s next CD comes out October 9th, and Scantlin explained his move by saying, “I just wanted to go for a swim.” A publicity-stunt swim.
- ABC and NBC are planning competing reality shows that will follow performers as they try to make it in the entertainment biz. ABC’s Limelight will feature Pharrell, exec-turned-producer Leonard Goldberg and filmmaker McG and follow students at a performing arts school, while NBC’s untitled show will track twentysomethings as they try to break into show business in New York City.
