Fans Clamor for Pink Floyd Reunion Tour, Dave Grohl Offers to Drum for Led Zeppelin, DMC Scores an Emmy

9/26/07, 2:28 pm EST

  • A Europe-wide poll has revealed the people want a Pink Floyd reunion tour. Twenty-six percent of 5,000 census takers said that they would like to see a full-scale version of what PF fans were briefly teased with at 2005’s Live 8 concert. Unfortunately, Floyd guitarist David Gilmour told us he doesn’t think a reunion is going to happen. Rounding out the top five in the survey were Abba, Guns N’ Roses, The Jam and Talking Heads.
  • A twenty-year-man died at the Smashing Pumpkins concert in Vancouver on Monday night. The victim was reportedly either crowd surfing or moshing in the moments before his death; foul play is not suspected.
  • Stone Gossard’s non-Pearl Jam side project Brad will reunite for one night only when they appear at NYC’s Webster Hall for a tribute to both Woody and Marjorie Guthrie and the 40th anniversary of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. The October 17th show will also feature a performance by Billy Bragg and hosting duties by actor Tim Robbins.
  • Foo Fighter Dave Grohl has offered his drumming services to Led Zeppelin when they reunite November 26th at London’s O2 Arena. “I’m at Led Zeppelin’s beck and call,” says Grohl, who will likely attend the Ahmet Ertegun tribute event.
  • Darryl McDaniel, or the DMC in Run-DMC, added another trophy to his likely large fireplace mantle after winning an Emmy last night for his VH1 rockumentary DMC: My Adoption Journey. The Celebrity Rap Superstar judge beat out CBS stalwart Mike Wallace and two PBS docs to win the award.

David Gilmour said that a reunion with the Floyd is not going to happen ! ok All rights are opened ; But so many people would like to see him in Tour ; he is not interested in money , but they should play for a good cause and for all the fan people or him alone, because I love him.
I am very sad Rock and Roll doesn’t place him well in the chart as a guitarist !

Pink Floyd is second only to Led Zeppelin as the biggest reunion that people want to see.

I would not hesitate to pay $500 per ticket for a Pink Floyd reunion concert. Hell, if they don’t need the money they could do it simply to raise money for a good cause.

Dooly | 11/16/2007, 9:47 pm EST

PinkFloyd is like GOD. The Best in the world.

drewish | 10/15/2007, 4:25 pm EST

I am 13 years old and i would KILL to see a Pink Floyd reunion. There was a period in my life (like a week ago) where I would listen to Dark Side of the Moon all the way through at least once a day.

stars over malta | 10/5/2007, 8:18 am EST

everyone is forgetting about phil collins. he’s the only other drummer that played w/ zep besides jason & john. grohl could do it though. but jason is the obvious choice, but what about his tinitous? can’t spell…

pink floyd | 10/3/2007, 4:40 am EST

if zeppelin and floyd both did reunion tours, the floyd would blow zeppelin out of the water in profits and sound.

p.s. i love them both

phillyDude | 10/2/2007, 11:09 am EST

No original Genesis?

Jjj | 10/2/2007, 2:16 am EST

Any person that commits suicide that have children is a fucking coward. Kobain was and will always be remembered as a weak individual one that should have done it years ago. Unfortunately he had a daughter and she will have to grow up with the memory of having no recollection of who her father was . I for one think the world is a better place without him.

James A | 10/2/2007, 2:04 am EST

I must say, if you want this reunion to take place it will, and the key word is WILL have Jason behind the kit. A couple of “Brits” could give a “fiddlers fuck ” about Dave Grohl. His sloppy drumming playing along with Kurts misplayed guitar just summed up what grunge was all about. Don’t get me wrong Nirvana was very good band for the time, Thank good it came at a time in the nineties when people were looking for a change from the “Hair Bands”. And because of the coward that the lead singer was, one bullet solidified the band in history rather than just another grunge band.

Isn’t Janet Weiss the name of Susan Sarandon’s character on Rocky Horror Picture show?

Joe | 9/28/2007, 10:51 am EST

Ripper, do the math. 76 plus 24 equals 100%. Apparently the part of you that was supposed to learn math dribbled down the chunk of lard your mother calls a thigh.

Joe | 9/26/2007, 5:09 pm EST

The headline shouild read 74% of people DO NOT want a Pink Floyd reunion.

the headline should read Joe is a nobjockey

PaulyR | 9/27/2007, 2:49 pm EST

Janet Weiss is the drummer for the on-hiatus band Sleater-Kinney. She joined the band just as they recorded Dig Me Out through their most recent, The Woods. The Woods is _very_ heavy (for them), their artistic peak some say, and their most Led Zeppelin-influenced.

Henry Chinaski | 9/27/2007, 2:03 pm EST

I Wikepediaed it real fast. Does she have any CD’s out so I can hear her play?

Wiki said she went on tour with her first band after only playing for two weeks. That alone makes her very intriguing. More info on Janet from you would be welcomed. Thanks for teaching me something new.

Henry Chinaski | 9/27/2007, 1:54 pm EST

Janet Weiss? Who’s that?

PaulyR | 9/27/2007, 1:13 pm EST

I agree Jason is the obvious choice, but if he were to be unavailable, Janet Weiss would be a more inspired choice over Dave Grohl.

Chuck | 9/27/2007, 10:06 am EST

Rockbutterfly, in your first reply to me you tell me to “mind your fuckin’ business”, which is an odd thing to say to someone in a public forum but I digress.

You seemed to have cooled down and rethought your approach with your second reply and to the question you posed in it I can only answer yes, of course if everybody constantly tells you how great you are it can go to your head. It’s just that I failed to see any evidence of that in his comments…and yes, I understand now that you were basing your comments on previous actions/comments of Grohl’s.

:)

Dana | 9/26/2007, 10:46 pm EST

Grohl has more DIVERSE musical talents than Jason. But Jason is just as good, if not better than Dave is as a drummer. I know it’s very fashionable now to say that Dave is the best drummer on the planet, but it’s not entirely true.

Dave’s definitely one of the best, but once you start saying someone is the best, you’re really walking on some shaky ground. If you wanted to get technical about it, Neil Peart could rip either one of these guys apart.

But that’s not the issue. The issue is who’s the best for Zeppelin. And the best fit for Zeppelin is Jason.

supersonic | 9/26/2007, 10:01 pm EST

“Dave would be the only other drummer alive that not only should but the only one that COULD take his place.”

A little mellodramatic . . . and not true.

grohl is worthy | 9/26/2007, 9:43 pm EST

its going to be between grohl and bonhams son, i think its a coin toss, grohl has the more talent and has been a die hard fan…after all he got into the drums because of zeppelin and listening to bonham play…Zeppelin rocks only the beatles and the rolling stones can be mentioned in the same breath….peace

punch drunk | 9/26/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I hate Dave Grohl. I hate him, I hate him, I hate him!

Rockbutterfly | 9/26/2007, 6:30 pm EST

“slamming Dave” is way overstating what I said. In fact, I was quite complementary of Dave, and I bought his CD and AM a huge fan.

But when everybody tells you you’re great it can go to your head, yes?

Bukowski | 9/26/2007, 6:27 pm EST

Yes, but Taylor Hawkins is every bit as good as Dave. And I think there’s some truth in it ’cause Taylor’s the first drummer Dave’s ever let play on his albums. I

I’m a drummer too and John Bonham has been my #1 influence. Believe it or not, I could slip back there and do a decent job (I do it for a living too).

But I’m not as good as Dave or Jason, but not that far away. If my phone rang . . . well . . . I’d have to make some changes in my schedule but . . . yeah I think I could put sometime aside LOL

Steward Copeland rules too. He’s amazing. A very overlooked drummer by the common fan.

Oh Beer | 9/26/2007, 6:02 pm EST

If god forbid something would happen to Jason, I think Dave would be the only other drummer alive that not only should but the only one that COULD take his place.

Alphabet Soup | 9/26/2007, 5:50 pm EST

Hmmmm . . .

Rockbutterfly | 9/26/2007, 5:42 pm EST

Hey Chuck,

mind your fuckin’ business. I can say whatever the hell I want, and if doesn’t meet with your approval, oh well.

I ADMITTED I didn’t read the article and I was going on past information. Are we at the point where Dave is completely above reproach?

Congratulations, you know how to read!

Joe | 9/26/2007, 5:09 pm EST

The headline shouild read 74% of people DO NOT want a Pink Floyd reunion.

Chuck | 9/26/2007, 4:46 pm EST

wow Rockbutterfly, slamming Dave Grohl because of the following….

“Ah, if I got that call, what the fuck do you think I’d be saying?” Grohl said. “I’d say, ‘Hey [Foo Fighters bandmates] Chris and Taylor, let’s take a little break for a few days, I’ll see ya later!’ But I don’t expect that to happen.”….”Jason should be the one,” he said. “Everyone knows that. He’s a fucking phenomenal drummer.”.

I fail to see anything in those comments that warrant a personal attack on Mr. Grohl…..maybe it’s someone else who needs to be fitted for a new helmet soon?

Iggy | 9/26/2007, 4:38 pm EST

Next thing you know, Dave is going to say he’ll drum for Rush!

Iggy | 9/26/2007, 4:37 pm EST

26% of 5000 people want a Pink Floyd reunion tour!!??

Stop the presses!!

Rockbutterfly | 9/26/2007, 3:59 pm EST

. . . but I still think Dave’s going to have to be fitted for a new helmet soon!

Rockbutterfly | 9/26/2007, 3:45 pm EST

i’ll check it out

I’ve heard Dave talk this way before so . . .

Read the Article | 9/26/2007, 3:27 pm EST

If you click on the article Dave says that he knows there is no way that it would happen and that Jason “SHOULD” be the drummer.

Cory | 9/26/2007, 3:22 pm EST

Very well put, Rockbutterfly. I am a fan of Grohl and his work. I’m buying the new album this weekend. But Led Zeppelin needs to be in the most pure form is can muster for this concert. And Jason behind the drum set is the closest Zep fans will get to a “true” reunion.

Rockbutterfly | 9/26/2007, 2:56 pm EST

Dave, I love ya and I think you’re great, but fuckin’ stop it!

Jason was taught by John until his death in 1980. Jimmy Page said that during a sound check (when jason was 9!) that he thought Bonzo was behind the drums whaling away when it was in fact, Jason.

And Jason has spent his entire life emulating his father’s patented sound.

Not only that, but it’s blood, and Jason deserves the job. And I think him playing in Led Zeppelin allows him to reconnect with his father. A “Bonham” should be the drummer of Zeppelin.

I think you’re brillant, a I’m a huge fan, and I’ve already ordered a copy of your new one from Amazon, but you need to cool out. I think all the positive buzz around you is starting to go to your head a little bit.

You can’t put your fingerprints on EVERYTHING,Dave. How about a little humility, eh?
