Rolling Stone recently got the scoop on Merle Haggard’s The Bluegrass Sessions, which comes out October 2nd. “I’ve got to where, a hundred albums later, I can’t tell how good they are anymore,” Haggard says of his first disc of bluegrass songs. “I know we had fun doing it — we didn’t sweat too hard.” The disc — recorded in Nashville with a group of top-shelf pickers — features bluegrass traditionals and reworked versions of Haggard’s own tunes. But the best tracks are the new ones, like “What Happened?” which surveys the damage of the Bush era. “I hope it’s not too late to fix things, Haggard says. “But I don’t think it’s going to happen in our lifetime.” Sample three songs from the LP (including single “Wouldn’t That Be Something” and two exclusive tracks) right here:

Merle Haggard is great, but do you guys really have to hi-light every anti-Bush tracks? Whenever Rolling Stone reviews an album or song they always praise the musician if he takes a stance against the president. Typically the songs don’t offer any insight: if you can read and have half a brain you know the Bush presidency was a disaster. Do we need musicians to beat us over the head with trite observations and conclusions that have long since been reached?

Deleverance sucked ass, and the music was even worse. Any movie where Ned Beatty gets fucked in the ass, is definitely out.

Must you bring back such horrible memories of Ned Beatty anal rape???

Lose the Deliverance Soundtrack, please!

Love Merle! Hate Bush. It’s a win-win situation…(although a think the Dead do a better version of “Mama Tried.”)
