Twenty-five-year-old singer-songwriter Jens Lekman spikes Seventies-AM-radio-inspired pop with big-band fanfare. The Swedish Lekman croons in a Morrissey-esque baritone, but the ornate string-and-horn arrangments on his October 9th album Night Falls Over Kortedala are pure Barry Manilow (in a good way). Click above to watch the video for the album’s tropicália-tinged “Sipping on the Sweet Nectar,” and check out Lekman in the current issue of Rolling Stone’s On the Edge column.

It’s hard to comment when the video seems impossible to access.

Jens is absolutely the most beautiful man on earth and who knew he could fly planes.
I’m a little disappointed with the new album, especially compared to his previous two but it’s still veryvery good. I guess i liked it when it was “simpler.”
If you can get your hands on an early live version of Nina I Can’t be Your Boyfriend you might explode with happiness!

Oh Jens! Absolutely the most wonderful man on earth, and who knew he could fly planes.
I’m a little disappointed with the new album, compared to the previous two. I guess i liked it when it was more “simple.” But it’s still veryvery good, his lyrics are great.
If you can get your hands on an early live version of “Nina I Can’t Be Your Boyfriend,” that would be a good thing for you.
