Okay, let’s assume that you’re late to the party on this one. Maybe you’ve seen the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas movie, or you’ve read bits of Hunter S. Thompson’s stuff here and there. You need a heads-up on how to get into the good stuff. Click here for a guide to what we recommend you read, in order, by Corey Seymour, the co-author of Thompson oral history Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson.

I still have the two issues of RS
(#’s 95 & 96) that FALILV originally appeared in, and remember some of the text being slightly different from that published in book form. I “couldn’t wait” for Part 2.
I saw Thompson in San Diego sometime in the late ’80s, early
’90s. The ticket said: “An Evening
with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson”. It
evolved into a Q & A with the audience (roving microphone). He
got pissed because everybody kept asking the same stupid question, or variations of it: “Where’s Oscar?” I heard he was holding court after the “show” in a bar in Ocean Beach. The crowd got too big and he had to leave.

The gonzo style?

I read some of his work before developing the unique gonzo style. Even then, it was pretty good reading.
