Is Eddie Vedder planning a solo tour? According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, it’s possible. The Pearl Jam frontman has completed what amounts to his first solo album by way of the soundtrack to the forthcoming Sean Penn film Into the Wild (read our review of the LP here, and watch the video review in today’s New Music Tuesdays report here). The possible tour would have Vedder playing much more intimate venues than he’s used to with Pearl Jam. “If you surf fifty-foot waves all the time, you can’t try too many new things, because fifty-foot waves are kind of life and death,” Vedder, an avid surfer, explained. “Playing big shows is like that. So you want to take on some smaller waves to rework or refine what you do, and then take it back to the big surf.” Hard-core Pearl Jam fans need not worry that Vedder entertaining the idea of a solo jaunt signals the end of the band, however. “We’ve been a group for a long time,” the singer said. “And we will continue to be so, I hope, for a really long time.” The official comment from Vedder’s reps is that he has no official plans to tour alone.

I can mark all the lowest and most momentis times of my life with a PJ song -They are deep, searching and joyous. I truly hope they continue to tour in any way possible. It is obvious that Ed enjoys a slower pace and the different tempos of some of there recent stuff are evidence enough that a solo tour would work extremely well -like having a red wine with a good friend.

Greatest Vocalist of All time, nobodys voice even comes close. THere have been some true greats such as Layne Stayley and Chris Cornell to name just two, but Eddie’s voice has “No Ceiling” to its capabilites and quality, The Worlds greatest instrument: Eddie Vedder

and to the fools who said his cataloug wouldnt be big enough, i’d say theres a good 133 songs or so he’d play the fuck out of live, just him his geetars and a sweet singing uke, such a recipe for wonderousness..

A solo tour would be cool but at most it will be a few US theatres, if it happened at all. I mean the odd time he does an acoustic solo pre-set at a PJ gig it sounds greats. Whatever happens the soundtrack is a good collection.

He could play all the songs off into the wild plus all the Pearl Jam songs. An Eddie solo tour would be awesome.
Nmar | 9/19/2007, 7:16 am EST
Don’t know if a Eddie Vedder solo tour would work, more Pearl Jam tours might. (Hint, hint)

I’ve seen Eddie’s “catalog” it’s pretty small, actually.

I think Eddie has a huge catalog - it would be great if he could play whatever he wanted on a short tour.
