Britney Spears’ VMAs performance fiasco has claimed an additional victim: her latest reps. Last night word broke that lawyer Laura Wasser dropped Spears as a client, and mere hours later the pop star’s manager Jeff Kwatinetz also quit, releasing the following statement on behalf of both parties: “It saddens us to confirm media reports that we have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears. We have represented Britney for the past month. We believe Britney is enormously talented, and has made a terrific record. But current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job. We wish Britney the best.” Kwatinetz, also known as Kelly Clarkson’s former manager, was hired to help out the Spears cause just over one month ago and reportedly had troubles VMAs night when Spears decided to change up her wardrobe without alerting anyone.
There is some good news for Britney, however. Billboard reports that “Gimme More” posted the most increased plays on the Top 40 chart for a second straight week (up 976 spins) and climbed from number twenty-five to twenty, making it Spears’ first top 20 appearance since she released “Every Time” in summer 2004. Also interesting: “Gimme More” is Spears’ sixteenth charting title this decade, tying her with fellow former Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera for most appearances on the chart by a woman in the last ten years.
