Shady Will Be Back Soon: Eminem Working on New Album

9/14/07, 1:01 pm EST

Eminem is (finally) working on a new album. The Detroit rapper called New York’s Hot 97 radio station yesterday while 50 Cent was being interviewed and revealed that he does have a new project in the works. “I’m always working — I’m always in the studio,” he said. “It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn’t want to go back to the studio … I went through some personal things” — Em recently divorced Kim Mathers for the second time — “I’m coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good.” When asked about a release date for the untitled project, the MC joked that the album would come out “tomorrow.”

Eminem recently produced and rhymed on “Peep Show” from 50 Cent’s new album Curtis, but his last solo studio set came out three years ago (2004’s Encore). In 2006, he released a retrospective called Curtain Call that seemed to hint at early retirement, and he’s been keeping an extremely low profile since the April 2006 death of his close friend, D12’s Proof, who was killed during a shoot-out at a Detroit club. Back in May, Eminem’s buddy and collaborator 50 Cent told the world that although Eminem would never admit he’s working on new material, he definitely is. “I’ve heard a few songs, and it’s hot,” the rapper said at the time. Moral of the story: Fifty is right about fifty percent of the time (according to the latest reports, his album is still trailing Kanye West’s in first-week sales).

I’ve always been with Eminem, but he should hang it up. If ‘King Mathers’ attempts to continue his flirtation w/ Crack Rap (re: ‘the Re-Up’ mix released last Christmas) he should check 50’s numbers and embarrasment at the hands of Kanye.

If, somehow, Eminem can bring the quality and the quirky, than maybe he has a shot. I think America’s moved on, tho.

Oddjob | 9/14/2007, 5:17 pm EST

I for one am sick and tired of all these ridiculous phoney-baloney “retirements”. Jay-Z retired for what, a year? Eminem for maybe 2? That’s how long it takes most “active” artists to put out a new album anyway!

Led Wallet | 9/14/2007, 5:50 pm EST

at least in eminem’s case, he can string words together in a clever way.

TONY | 9/14/2007, 7:42 pm EST

Who the flip cares? Go buy some music made by someone with actual musical talent: the White Stripes, the Fratellis… hell, go buy the McCartney record at Starbucks. He still has more talent in his left middle finger (read, yes) than “Eminem” has in his entire body. Or ever could hope to have.

don’t want them. don’t need them. just because i look around, it doesn’t mean i’m interested.

-dude you have to be out of your freakin mind.mcartney lost his talent long ago.marshall isnt rappin on a star bucks album for cryin out loud(yeah real talented).em is the best living rapper as of right now.love him or hate him he can rap circles around anyone out there right now.if you follow him at all then you should know the talent this guy has,his battle raps are crazy.and like they said if you didnt care you wouldnt have read about it.oh and the white stripes suck(they only have like what 1 or two good songs)the fratellis who?must not be that good never heard of em.most new rock blows everyone is tryin to find the next big band and i havent heard anything good from rock for the most part in two years.

thewufs | 9/15/2007, 12:58 pm EST

Even if you don’t like Eminem and you don’t like rap and you’ve only heard a handful of his songs you ought to be able to recognize that he has “talent”. Otherwise you’re tin-eared, plain and simple. Like I said, you can hate the guy and what he stands for and so forth, but how on earth anybody under 65 could listen to “The Marshall Mathers LP” or Em’s early singles and not be impressed on some level is beyond me. His verbal, rhythmic and comic gifts should be plain to any English-speaking person with the ability to think critically or clap on the downbeat. There are plenty of gifted artists who I think have terrible taste or who make bad music, but only fools confuse taste with raw talent. Every musical genre has its own set of aethetic precepts, and a number of artist will excel within the given parameters just as others will fail. And I think it’s fair to surmise that most rap-haters couldn’t flow or put together a dope beat if their lives depended upon it.

Anonymous | 9/15/2007, 1:59 pm EST

ems old hat might sell decent but he’ll never be as big

Krunch | 9/15/2007, 3:15 pm EST

I agree with “on topic”. Not just Em but most of rap is just the same old, tired , crap. Sick of dope, sick of guns, sick of hos, etc. It’s all been done. I suggest that all rappers go back to whatever ghetto cesspool spit them out.

Snowman | 9/16/2007, 1:07 am EST

Rap owns, youre just all blind and redneck fueled.

brent | 9/16/2007, 11:19 am EST

its awesome that Em is workin on a new album. hopefully it’ll be better than Curtain Call. but i gotta agree with some of the things people have said.. rap’s dying. Nas called it. there are very few seriously talented rappers out there releasing material on a regular basis. its all this Mims, T.I., and dance party crap that is ruining rap. someone (Eminem, Dre’s Detox, Wu-Tang) needs to bring it back to gangsta rap when things were actually being said instead of partying and bragging about how much bling they got. Common, Talib, Em, Dre, Mos Def, etc are the real talent… screw 50 and kanye’s dance-off

Feminem | 9/16/2007, 11:54 am EST

oh goody, more shit “music” by an angry little white boy with an ax to grind,,,,,”oh, poor me, my mom does drugs, i had a hard upbringing, my daughter blah blah blah, and did i mention my wife, er, i mean ex-wife ,er, whatever she is???”

His battle raps are CRAZY!!! WOWWW!!! HE talks fast in rhyme!!! AMAZZINGGG TALENT! Unlike McCArtney who can play any instrument, sing (i know, you don’t know what singing is) and write MUSIC. And yes it’s sad he has to turn to Starbucks to let the ignorant masses know he has an album, since the media only focuses on CRAP like your precious angst-ridden wannabe.

TONY | 9/16/2007, 2:20 pm EST

F$ck you Tony. Like I could give a rats ass about “flowing” or “putting together a dope beat”. What kind of dumb ass crap is that anyway? You want rap, go to another magazine and take your fake ghetto lingo with you. Rock on, punk.

16 Track supersonic | 9/16/2007, 7:42 pm EST

I sure as hell can produce that kind of stuff like in my studio, but I don’t want to produce shit. I make rock and roll records that blow the doors off of just about anything. So there.

TONY | 9/16/2007, 8:35 pm EST

Hey RAP SUCKS: read the other posts – I think it sucks too! Part of my message got cut off when posting. I was quoting from “thewufs” further down the page.

But hey… f8ck you too!

TONY POSTED.His battle raps are CRAZY!!! WOWWW!!! HE talks fast in rhyme!!! AMAZZINGGG TALENT! And yes it’s sad he has to turn to Starbucks to let the ignorant masses know he has an album, since the media only focuses on CRAP like your precious angst-ridden wannabe.-YEAH YOUR TASTE IN MUSIC IS IMPECCABLE(VERY CLOSE MINDED I TAKE IT)(OH AND DOING A CD FOR STARBUCKS JUST SCREAMS SELL OUT).FUNNY THERE ARE ALOT OF RAPPERS OUT THERE THAT ARE ASKING HIM FOR HIS BEATS .SO THAT BOILS DOWN TO HE CAN ACT,HE CAN RAP(VERY WELL)AND HE CAN ALSO PRODUCE GREAT MUSIC AND BEATS BECAUSE HE IS BEING TAUGHT HOW TO PRODUCE BY ONE OF THE BEST(DRE).BUT THATS OK FOR EVERY YIN THERE IS A YANG SO WHAT IF YOU DONT LIKE RAP.BUT KEEP THIS IN MIND NO ONE IS ATTACKING ROCK LIKE YOU ARE WITH RAP AND EMINEM.BECAUSE I ACTUALLY AM A FAN OF MUSIC PERIOD I LOVE CLASSIC RAP CLASSIC ROCK, ALTERNATIVE AND METAL AND ALOT OF ACTUALLY GOOD RAP (THAT IS GREAT LYRICISTS).SO AS LONG AS PEOPLE KEEP CALLING RAP CRAP THATS FINE BUT THEY ARE JUST MISSING OUT AND BEING CLOSE MINDED AS USUAL.YES SOME OF IT AS OF RIGHT NOW I MYSELF THINK SUX BECAUSE IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME AND THERE ARENT VERY MANY GOOD RAPPERS OUT RIGHT NOW.BUT HEY HATE RAP ALL YOU WANT ITS NOT GOING AWAY SO LIVE WITH IT.

Jenni-Jenn | 9/16/2007, 10:09 pm EST

Eminem is nowhere close to the best rapper living. Listen to Aceyalone and get back to me on who raps circles around who. Eminem has some catchy raps, sure, and he does have talent, I’m not saying he doesn’t, but compared to alot of rappers out there, he ain’t shit.

trupredator | 9/16/2007, 10:10 pm EST

funny how people refer to it as crap but the artist they are bashing is very wealthy, and also a multi million selling artist at that in the short time he has been around so to me that screams he is doing something right.he is making loads of money doing it your not so quit hatin him for being talented because for everyone of you that hate him he has ten more that like him.your not takin any money out of his pocket so why hate.and why post because it is getting you no where and except letting everyone know that you have a very restricted taste in music.like i said earlier hate rap all you want it isnt going anywhere so get used to it.

Anonymous | 9/16/2007, 10:50 pm EST

Hey feminem, the “oh, poor me, my mom does drugs, i had a hard upbringing, etc.” kind of lyrical prose comes from rock music too. Dumbass.

JJ | 9/17/2007, 12:53 am EST

eminem, along with a short list of others, is the last of a dying breed. lets face it, anyone who actually listens to whAt half of these clowns are saying today knows its bullshit. rap needs help, and em is only of the most lyrically gifted people in the business. he had better have somethin to say, otherwise its goodbye rap and hello whatever the hell you want to call the shit you hear on the radio everyday. we’ll see if dre has somethin to say soon enough

Bukowski | 9/17/2007, 1:06 am EST

Hey, Feminem don’t listen to that shit. Your comedic diatribe was hysterical and perfeclty captured Eminem’s whiny subject matter. Some people in this world are completely humorless and lack the ability to laugh or find humor IN ANYTHING!!! Fuck ‘em. These whiny trolls all sound the same. Woe is me, my life sucks, I am a victim, blah blah, blah, blah, blah! Hey Anonymous (too chickenshit to use your real name), get a sense of humor you humorless dolt!!!

hilla | 9/17/2007, 1:09 am EST

Anyone who has heard the Re-Up was disappointed. There are only a handful of songs that are even worth listening to for 30 seconds. Unsurprisingly, those are without a doubt the only songs that Em appears on. And anyone who has listened to No Apologies can agree that Em still has it. Curtain Call,Encore and Eminem Show, his most recent albums, are his worst. If Em can say screw radio and focus on his dope talent, I think he’ll blow it out of the park.

Bukowski | 9/17/2007, 1:10 am EST

Sellout? NO. If you read the post you’d know why someone with actual talent has to go alternative to get in front of people. The music industry knows shiiit and sweeps people like him out the door. Which is why the recording industry is on a fast track to extinction.

If eminem is coming out with a new album, great for him. I hope its not as disappointing as encore was. I think the man has lost it. After about 2002 his lyrics, voice, everything changed.

to me, this is the real slim shady;
Infinite
the slim shady lp
The marshall mathers lp
The eminem show (some what)

I LOVED the more controversial em. I hope em realizes no one really talks shit about shady records as much as he thinks, and he doesn’t have to make a cd (re up) to back up his recording label..

IF EM DROPPED THAT LYRIC HE’D BE SLATED! NEVER THE LESS, WEEZY’S BEATS ARE HOT AND HE BRINGS A BIT OF LIFE TO THE GAME. IF EMINEM RETURNS ON FORM THEN GET THE FUCK OUT THE WAY BITCHES!
