Led Zeppelin Ticket Lottery Extended, Fred Durst Pleads Guilty to Car-Related Charges, Pete Doherty Returns to Studio

9/14/07, 1:48 pm EST

  • Thanks to the Website-crashing demand for Led Zeppelin reunion tickets, organizers behind the Tribute to Ahmet Ertegun concert will extend the application process to Wednesday, September 17th. So far, over 25 million people filled out ballots with hopes of securing one of the 20,000 £125 tickets for the November 26th show. Meanwhile, Hugh Manson, who has worked with members of Led Zep for over twenty-five years, calls the band’s top-secret rehearsals “hard work but a lot of fun.”
  • Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst found a way to infiltrate Rock Daily after pleading guilty to seven misdemeanors, including assault, battery and reckless driving. The charges stem from an October 2006 incident when Durst deliberately tried to hit two people with his car in LA. Durst was given a 120-day suspended jail sentence, ordered to perform 120 hours of community service and fined $1,500.
  • Common and Q-Tip will co-headline this year’s 2K Sports Bounce tour, which is one-half rap concert, one-half video game tournament. Q-Tip will use the fifteen-city tour as an opportunity to road-test songs from his new album The Renaissance, due out in early 2008.
  • Unbeknownst to her professor, Shakira was secretly attending classes at UCLA under the guise of a Colombian student. Following her Oral Fixation tour, Shakira enrolled in “Introduction to Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843.” Class began August 6th and ended yesterday.
  • Pete Doherty and Babyshambles are back in the studio, recording B-sides for their upcoming, Fall Music Previewed album Shotter’s Nation. Among the new song titles are “Jumping Bean,” “I Don’t Know That Man” and “Velvet Untitled.”

Who in the U.S. knows who is, let alone listens to, Babyshambles?

anna leigh | 9/14/2007, 3:24 pm EST

not knowing about the babyshambles is what needs to change about the american music scene! the best bands come from britain!

Rev Al Bum | 9/14/2007, 4:40 pm EST

I thought baby shambles was a recalled toy from China!

Supersonic | 9/14/2007, 6:16 pm EST

There’s nothing I hate more than self-important snotty Brits who brag about how much better they think they are. If the blues, rock and roll weren’t created here in America, the English wouldn’t have a pot piss in. I agree all 4 of the greatest bands of all time came from England, but we’re all just a little sick of your superiority complex!

Supersonic | 9/14/2007, 6:23 pm EST

The Brits are quick to forget that groups like Culture Club, Wham, and the Spice Girls are part of their proud history as well.

If we don’t know who Baby Shambles are, maybe their management and record company should do a better job of promoting them, yes?

I’m happy that you guys are posting news about Zeppelin’s tribute show to Ahmet Ertegun. You should also let your readers beware of the OVER 2million pages on Google boasting “… VIP seats to the Zeppelin world tour…”. In some cases, these sites are charging over 2500 US dollars for these bogus tickets. I’ve phoned the so-called “contact us” phone numbers on several web sites, and I was a)hung up on b)an unsuspecting party didnt even realize their HOME phone number was posted on the internet, unbenounced to them. And in one instance, I could hear the denial in a telemarketer’s voice, when I informed him that these so called tickets were totally BOGUS. They were boasting “floor seats”, and VIP seats and “standing room only” seats, the cheapest for about 475English pounds. Please Please let your readers beware not to spend money on these bogus tickets. Just “google” Led Zeppelin tickets, and see how many pages come up. Your jaw, like mine, will drop, and your eyes will pop outta your head at how many people are capitolizing on this one time, noble charity event that these great musicians are putting on, simply out of the kindness of their hearts. Thanks. A very devoted Zeppelin fan….

You stupid brits have produced nothing but shit in terms of rock bands since the 60’s and 70’s.

And who the fuck are the Babyshamble?

Phoenix | 9/15/2007, 3:10 am EST

baby scrambled eggs?

Evan Wylie | 9/15/2007, 8:50 am EST

If you Americans think the majority of we Brits rate Babyshambles you’re sadly deluded. Doherty is a sick joke and the “music” is fifth rate. Long live Zep, Floyd, Cream and The Cult !

MP7 | 9/15/2007, 12:34 pm EST

Forget Babyshitshambles
The current state of music across the Western world is fucked.
Regurgitated Shit. Nothing Original,
No creativity, No Idea.
Zeppelin and the bands of their time were part of a golden era. That era has been dead a long time. Nirvana were the only recent glimmer and that was 17 years ago.

mats sweden | 9/15/2007, 10:11 pm EST

please give me a ticket too led zeppelin concert pleaseeeeee. Mr Plant

supersonic | 9/16/2007, 12:26 pm EST

You hit the nail right on the head. Younger people think their elders are just a bunch of snotty know it alls, but the truth is the music of Zep, Beatles, Stones, and The Who just did it all. They turned every trick and ate most of the food at the feast and didn’t leave many crumbs for the rest of rock and roll. However, I don’t really agree with you about Nirvana. I think the Foos are a much better band, and when all is said and done, they will leave a significant impression in the history of rock.
Kurt was a genius, but Dave IS a genius.

supersonic | 9/16/2007, 12:28 pm EST

Babyshambles. That may be the worst name for a rock band ever.

There is no sense in comparing Nirvana with Foo Fighters. Although Foo Fighters are a good band, they are, in my opinion, quite radio-friendly on the whole. Nirvana had the punk rock attitude and raw edge…they were an entity unto themselves, turning the music scene on its head at a time when Micheal Jackson was dominating the charts. Knocking MJ out of #1 spot was unheard of back then. Dave Grohl, I can only assume, would be proud of being part of that legacy. Nirvana’s music was and still is, the real deal as far as I’m concerned.

entity | 9/16/2007, 11:18 pm EST

correction…I misspelled Michael (that was unintentional)

Foo Fighters Rule | 9/17/2007, 12:52 am EST

Well, okay. Nirvana was great, but here it is: Dave Grohl has completely reinvented himself and has gone from a world class drummer to becoming a creative juggernaut in an exciting and EXCELLENT BAND! He is an innovative guitar player who has a knack for being able to create chords in such a way that they build layer of melody on top of melody on top of melody.
A NEW SOUND that didn’t exist before he came along. And when you are a guitar player that brings something new and innovative, that puts you in a very unique class with others such as Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, etc.
Kurt had an ability to write catchy pop punk songs that ALSO got plenty of radio airplay!
Nirvana’s music towards the end became very dark and depressing, in my opinion. I’m not being mocking in any way, but one of Kurt’s last songs he recorded was for the “Beavis and Butthead” soundtrack entltled: “I Hate Myself, I Want To Die.” Well . . .
Dave’s sound is very much raw and agressive, but there’s this wonderful sense of optimism running through it. If you listen to tracks like “Monkey Wrench” or “D.O.A.” for instance, it is raw, loud, and agressive. I think if one was to listen to these two tracks with an opened mind without preconceived opinions, she might make a surprizing discovery.
Dave Grohl has said on countless occasions that he feels extremely privileged to have been a part of Nirvana. Unfortunately, a lot of people have such a devotion to Kurt Cobain, that for them, giving a band like the Foo Fighters a fair shake would be beneath them.
I wonder how many of these people have ever borrowed a CD of their music from a friend, let alone made a small monitary investment in them.
Unfortunately, the close minded are the majority in our world, rather than the minority. What can you do?
Finally, some believe that listing to depressing music and feeling miserable is some kind of artistic virtue, which is fine, but who the hell needs it? Life is depressing and fucked up enough already to constanly fill your ears with sad and morose stuff.
Listening in moderation is fine, but pumping it through your brain day after day, month after month, year after year?
Well, right now, I just put on a copy of “Sgt. Pepper’s and I’m going to listen with a big smile on my face!

There was this really great review of the Foo Fighters that someone put a lot of thought and time into, but it was pulled down. That’s really unfair. WhY did they do that? I have no idea.

Dear Foo Fighters Rule | 9/17/2007, 11:49 am EST

If you want raw, loud and aggressive, you should be listening to music by “the band” DOA. That’s fine if you’re a Foo Fighter’s fan, but they really are quite mainstream radio-oriented and too safe. Nirvana music listeners are entitled to their own music preferences.
