Brian Wilson May Hit the Studio, White Stripes Nix More Dates, Target Launches David Bowie Clothing Line

9/13/07, 2:27 pm EST

  • After finding success on London’s Royal Festival Hall stage, Brian Wilson is hoping to record his new work That Lucky Old Sun in the studio. The piece, which features a collaboration with Van Dyke Parks, features “full songs” in the vein of the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and Wilson’s epic Smile.
  • Retailer Target will celebrate their new David Bowie-inspired clothing line by releasing an exclusive six-song Bowie EP, which hints at four future Bowie releases (Santa Monica ’72, Nassau Live ‘76 and special editions of Low and Hunky Dory).
  • RS Breaking Artist the National will cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Mansion on the Hill” from Nebraska for the B-side of their new single “Apartment Story.”

mansion on the hill is not a bruce springsteen song. i know hank williams sr did it so its probably an old traditional song. hire a fact checker

Bouqet | 9/13/2007, 7:27 pm EST

Bucky, LOL. Yeah, SF Giants are definitely long in the tooth!

However, Brian Wilson is brilliant and anything he does at this point is a thousand times better than what anyone else can do! Rock on Brian; don’t ever stop!

Mansion on the hill is a Springsteen song, recorded in 1982 and copyrighted with Lyrics by Bruce Springsteen. Get your facts straight.

the only thing that would sound better than lucky old sun, is a future collaberation with paul mccartney.. we are so fortunate to be living at the same time as him.

Bouquet | 9/13/2007, 9:40 pm EST

Brian Wilson, I feel, has some creative vitality left because of all the years he took off. McCartney’s best days are long behind him and he’s running on fumes now. Brian Wilson doesn’t need McCartney. Much more intriguing would be a Brian Wilson and Trent Reznor collaboration.

“RS Breaking Artist The National” bwahhahahahha! You guys were really on top of that one, weren’t you? Alligator, the best rock record of the 2000’s, got a worse rating in your magazine than “Oops I did it again.” If it wasn’t for Cristgau you guys would have ZERO credibility as music critics.

Dear Ja Rule,
Please go the way of Pauly Shore.
Be gone!

Kruzinski | 9/14/2007, 1:13 pm EST

Ja Rule, you are just another black homophobe, and I’ve met plenty of them.Your statements are those of an inept loser, and the reason I think you are a complete loser and homophobe is because I don’t think you’ve ever experienced what gay and lesbian people go through on a daily basis. You sound like a complete idiot, and I’m inclined to think that you probably are.Not only that, but have you forgotten what you own people suffered through, and, what they continue to suffer through?Your remark was a cheap, cheap shot that exhuded a classless, uninformed and uneducated vibe.

Ja Rule needs something to think about on the unemployment line — why not homophobia? — apparently black people killing each other on records and videos is ok.
