The Story Behind the Led Zeppelin Reunion: Is a Tour Next?

9/12/07, 3:17 pm EST

Led Zeppelin will reform for a one-off show at the O2 Arena, London on November 26th. “They’re going to play all the great songs that everybody wants to hear,” said promoter Harvey Goldsmith, who brokered what must surely be the Holy Grail of rock reunions. “They are the last great rock gods that remain to be seen,” Goldsmith added. “I have a feeling that this is going to be the largest demand for one show in history.”

(Click here to check out photos of the band onstage and off from the late Sixties and early Seventies).

Having been approached by the widow of the late record company executive Ahmet Ertegun to organize a tribute concert, Goldsmith began negotiating with the managers of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin — Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones — and the manager of drummer Jason Bonham, the son of the late John Bonham, to see if a reunion was possible. After several weeks of discussions the band finally assembled in a rehearsal studio on the outskirts of London in June to see if they could still play together.

The initial plan was for them to work up a half-hour of material to play as part of a gala concert. But after a week of rehearsals, Zeppelin announced that they would be willing and able to perform a full two-hour set. The November 26th show will feature warm-up contributions from Billy Wyman’s Rhythm Stars, Pete Townshend, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini. But there is no mistaking what the star attraction will be. Speculation that other Zeppelin shows and possibly even a full reunion tour will follow is running high. “You have to take it one step at a time,” Harvey said. “Obviously there is a sense of frustration for all the fans around the world who can’t get tickets. I hope they do something else. But I hope they do it because they’re really enjoying it and because this show is fantastic.”

Fans wanting to purchase tickets priced at £125 (approximately $250) must register at www.ahmettribute.com, where their names will be entered in a lottery. 14,500 tickets will be made available in this way, according to Goldsmith. In addition there will be a handful of special “package tickets” available for between £750 to £1000.

They have to do more shows, this place is far too small!

Go VH! | 9/12/2007, 3:46 pm EST

This worries me… I love Zeppelin, but I hear that Jimmy doesn’t bring it like he used to. And of course Robert Plant’s voice isn’t even half of what it used to be.

I’m worried about the Van Halen tour too, but at least Dave didn’t have that much range to lose. I’m afraid that Robert trying to match up to his glory days will be like trying to replicate the Mona Lisa on a chalkboard.

I hope I’m wrong.

Carter | 9/12/2007, 3:47 pm EST

If they’ve still got the chops, this will be an epic show.

Well..... | 9/12/2007, 3:54 pm EST

Without John Bonham, it’s NOT the band – but I think they deserve a chance to redem themselves after the mistakes at Live Aid (85) and Atlantic’s 40th Anniversary (1988). I hope that they kick ass for one night and then go away forever – like Pink Floyd (hopefully) has.
There is something to be said about going out in style.
Unless you really want to see what is calling itself KISS, The Who or The Rolling Stones in 2007.

One serious question, though: Is there a band that has come out in the last 5 years that you can imagine people still clamoring for in 2040?

John Blum | 9/12/2007, 3:54 pm EST

I think that Robert Plant is a little long in the tooth and cannot match his vocal prowess from thirty years ago and he will embarass himself. The best thing they have going is Jason Bonham who is close to being as superb a drummer as his father was. Jimmy Page still is the best and John Paul Jones is still great as well. Plant, however, has lived too well as you can see from all the wrinkles. He looks like a seventy year old man.

john john | 9/12/2007, 4:06 pm EST

waited along time for this

stanley 64 | 9/12/2007, 4:06 pm EST

led zep…woweewawa!!!!!!!

TPG | 9/12/2007, 4:11 pm EST

After witnessing two shows from the very underwhelming reunion of The Police, I’m a little bummed by this news.

I like the idea that Zep went out on top and didn’t return for one of those cash-grab reunion tours. Now I worry that this will become a trainwreck that could tarnish the image of this mega band.

Zep and The Beatles were always cool that way. They both left and never looked back.

Jim | 9/12/2007, 4:13 pm EST

Even a “long in the tooth” Zep will still kick the asses of every Gym Class Fall Out Charlotte emo poseur out there.

Mike | 9/12/2007, 4:13 pm EST

Plant’s range may not be capable of the higher end, but his actual voice was never the main thing about that band. If he’s singing in a lower key, the music itself will still be awesome behind him. His presence alone was commanding.

Page was on fire when he played with the Black Crowes, doing many Zep songs. Jones has toured and showed he is MULTI talented…and Jason has been playing with Foreigner and probably thought this day would never come for him again (to play with the 3 of them).

I say, great news! Only hope real fans can get tickets with so much hype going on.

Lemon Squeezer | 9/12/2007, 4:17 pm EST

A Led Zep reunion in my lifetime? I’m in heaven.
For some reason, despite their age (come on everyone) I think they can pull this off.

Cooter | 9/12/2007, 4:22 pm EST

One of the best live bands ever. It’s a shame they are now old and decrepit. This show will be hilarious and will just further establish the sad state that is todays music industry. Show me the funny.

David | 9/12/2007, 4:25 pm EST

Who the hell does led zepplin think they are AC/DC? Only a kick ass band like AC/DC can pull off playing as they get up there in age. Noboby wants to hear any of that stairway to heaven crap anyways.

haha! | 9/12/2007, 4:27 pm EST

Correction John Blum, Plant looks like a 70 year old woman!!

Mark | 9/12/2007, 4:30 pm EST

I saw Plant perform two years ago on the Mighty Rearranger Tour and he was excellent, and sounded great (even though he isn’t the plant of ‘73). I’ve seen Jimmy play with the Crowes and with Robert and he can still play. I believe this will be an excellent show and hope the come stateside.

duirdie | 9/12/2007, 4:36 pm EST

I hope they do tour and come to America. Even if they are past their prime, they will still provide a high quality show that few, if any bands today can give at half the age! Hopefully they will film or televise the concert.

C | 9/12/2007, 4:38 pm EST

I will believe it when I see it.

jungleland | 9/12/2007, 4:39 pm EST

Maybe this will be Like CREAM and they will do a week in the UK and a week in New York

elisano | 9/12/2007, 4:40 pm EST

I think its great!! yea sure plants voice aint gonna be as good as it was n page maybe a fraction slower (dnt make much difference anyway) but even if they play bad itl still be awsome compared to the corrupt music industry of today.

if i cnt get ticketsitl most prob be out on dvd anyway.

Rock on !!!

Jerry Lambert | 9/12/2007, 4:43 pm EST

David is correct Led zepplin is not AC/DC. There is no way they they could preform at there age. A band that I would like to see reunite and tour again would be that band from the 80s called Triumph.. It would be nice to hear such classics as “magic power” and “never surrender” again. Rick Emmit jamming away on his gutair. Does anyone know what ever happened to the band KROKUS?? That had that one awsome tune called “long stick goes boom” . I just loved the way that song started” well all know about 69″ classic song sounded allot like AC/DC..

Dan Clarke | 9/12/2007, 4:43 pm EST

Im only 16 so i have never seen zepp live well only on dvd and i would cut off my arms and legs just to get a glimpse at them live in person

Big Nate | 9/12/2007, 4:46 pm EST

Who is this band? Where’s my daily Fall Out Boy update?

Julio Vaquez | 9/12/2007, 4:51 pm EST

All of todays bands have a lot to thank the PIONEERS of yesterday. It would be an honor to be in hte same room as Led Zeppelin. Rock On guys. I’d pay to see a reunion. Good Luck Robert Plant.

abritneyfan | 9/12/2007, 4:54 pm EST

I really feel bad for Britney Spears and what happened to her at the vmas.. Hopefully she will get the help she needs and she wil back to her old form..

Stmpy | 9/12/2007, 4:54 pm EST

AC/DC?!!! HA HA! Led Zep will SCORCH the stage and the world will be better for it.

To put AC/DC (admittedly, a good band) and Zep (true innovators) in the same category shows a complete lack of knowledge of rock music. Get real!

sCHIZOID man | 9/12/2007, 4:57 pm EST

This is amazing news. Do you think if Robert Plant’s voice is shot he would risk his legacy for a one off? And if they tour, it will not be for the money (although ticket prices will be insane) it will be for fans old and new.

GAB | 9/12/2007, 4:57 pm EST

I LEARNED FROM SEEING ALL THESE REUNION TOURS YOU CANT GO BACK IN TIME,BUT I SAW THE WHO AND THEY WERE AWESOME!! DIFFERENT BUT AWESOME MAYBE IT WILL BE LIKE THAT
HOPE HOPE ….

miccc | 9/12/2007, 4:58 pm EST

It should never be called Led Zeppelin without John Bonham, but what the hell, it’s hard not to get intensely excited when 75% of rock’s greatest band are assembled with the son of the missing member.

Me Wise Me | 9/12/2007, 4:59 pm EST

What kind of IDIOT suggests that Led Zep is “too old” to play…when you have the rolling Stones, Van Halen, and countless other acts from the 70’s and 80’s doing it??

GO MILK YOUR DOG and wait for those AC/DC tix to go on sale, you stupid ass!

Sandy | 9/12/2007, 5:02 pm EST

Wow that David guy sure is mad at the Greatest Band ever Led Zeppelin of course. Take a hike David! I am so happy that the Led is getting together again, wooooohooooo way to go Led Zeppeli. I love the Led….

miccc | 9/12/2007, 5:05 pm EST

I just read that the demand for tickets in the first few hours has already exceeded any rock concert in history, and the site to get tickets crashed with tens of millions of hits in the first few minutes after the announcement.

angry wife | 9/12/2007, 5:06 pm EST

You can’t even try and register for the damn website. It keeps crashing….wonderful planning by Goldsmith…NOT

ok, bear with me | 9/12/2007, 5:15 pm EST

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

SWEET!

Zep Girl | 9/12/2007, 5:19 pm EST

I was SO excited when I heard that they were getting back together- hoping for a tour in the US. I would sell my car to get tickets and go to London if that is the only show they do. And for all of you who think they can’t sing anymore- have you seen Page or Plant in the past few years? They are awesome. They might not be able to hit the high notes- but I don’t go to a show to listen to them sing perfect. Go buy the freakin CD. It’s about the experience and seeing one of THE best rock bands in history.

john from new jersey | 9/12/2007, 5:33 pm EST

I seriously hope they come to the U.S.
I’ll sell my mustang if not and go the the U.K.

The one and out will be planned to the second and the vocals will be highly painted and in a lower range for Plant. Page, Jones and Bonham will cover for Plant and they will come off heros-don’t expect a tour they don’t need the money.

Billy Leal | 9/12/2007, 6:00 pm EST

Zeppelin Representative , Piss off all you haters I bet you listen to them and sing along to, wait till you get old and you get made fun of. you sad excuse of a person to insult the lengendary performers. Go stand in the corner you miserable thing!!!! The Song Remains The Same. Rock on Forever!!!

Gideon Klein | 9/12/2007, 6:05 pm EST

Robert Plant is a sixty year old man! He is long past his prime. How desperate are people to pay $300.00 a ticket. Cherich what once was and will never be again. This is a shameful attempt by a bunch of old farts to make millions of dollars from thirty year old memories.

Jason Avant | 9/12/2007, 6:08 pm EST

To all those who believe the song remains the same please wake up to reality. These guys are all in their 60’s now. It’s not the way it once used to be folks. They are milking your pocket.

rob | 9/12/2007, 6:10 pm EST

Thinking of that no quarter live and classics like stairway to heaven being done it will be a blockbuster tour if they come to the us to tour i guess a lot depends on how the one show goes if they proceed to tear up the rock n roll world here in the year 2007 rock on zepplin

Kareem Abdul Mohammed | 9/12/2007, 6:10 pm EST

They ONCE were a great band, perhaps the world’s best but that was a very, very long time ago. Keep listening to your CD’s and MP3’s and remember what once was but shall never be again. Don’t waste your money on a bunch of over the hill, drugged out geriatrics.

Go VH! | 9/12/2007, 6:11 pm EST

“What kind of IDIOT suggests that Led Zep is ‘too old’ to play…when you have the rolling Stones, Van Halen, and countless other acts from the 70’s and 80’s doing it??”

Well… considering that (in my opinion) almost nobody has aged well in Van Halen or The Rolling Stones, I’d say those of concerned about a Zeppelin tour aren’t totally off base.

I love Van Halen and the Stones, but I grimace a bit when I hear them now. Mick Jagger sounded old and monotone when they played the Superbowl, and Eddie Van Halen just looks awful. Not to mention Dave’s voice hasn’t been too hot the past several years.

That’s not to say that I won’t give VH a shot this tour, or that I’m not pulling for Zep. I’m just anxious.

Get the led out | 9/12/2007, 6:22 pm EST

Obviously all you doubters who say they are too old have never seen the Stones live. Mick is just as old and he is still just as good. Lets get the led out!!

Martin | 9/12/2007, 6:25 pm EST

I saw them in 1979, I saw Page N Plant, they had it then, they still got it now.

The greatest rock band there’s ever been. And ever will be.

Chrisy | 9/12/2007, 6:27 pm EST

I saw LZ in the 70s a few times.
This is awesome and long long overdue.

I’m really happy.

Guitar Girl | 9/12/2007, 6:29 pm EST

Get over yourselves, haters! YES, they’re up there in age (Mick Jagger, anyone?); YES, it’s NOT gonna be the SAME (who wants that anyway? HELLO… there is no John Bonham!); YES, true fans will gather. This is history, no way around that. And if anyone knows anything about Jimmy Page it’s that he is a proud man. You think he’s gonna get out there and knowingly make an ass of himself? COME ON! People like this who are successful at what they do (even if it was YEARS AND YEARS ago), do not achieve said greatness by making foolish decisions that would make them look stupid. My hope is they don’t try and do it the same (impossible) but that they play a great show, give some of us fans who were too young to go see them then something to awesome to be a part of, and that their sound is something special in and of itself. True fans of music would only wish for this sort of culmination. Now, get over yourselves!

hip | 9/12/2007, 6:29 pm EST

david you truly are an idiot! look at all the surviving members of the grateful dead and the bands they are playing in and tell me that old folgies can’t preform moron!

Its like a dream come true for all true rock fans..

Long live rock and roll
Long live Led Zepplein the mother of all rock bands…

winchie | 9/12/2007, 6:32 pm EST

I’m in my 50’s and would love to see Zep live. Bonhams son is nearly as good as his late dad, and the rest of the band can still rock. I thought that they were great in the Early Days and I’m sure that they will be just as good in the Latter Days.

Anthony Pittarelli | 9/12/2007, 6:32 pm EST

Mitch | 9/12/2007, 7:02 pm EST

Dave, are you high? AC/DC is great but they don’t even belong in the same sentence as Led Zeppelin! Zeppelin is the greatest band to walk the face of the earth, and for all you doubters, #$%@ off b/c I saw Plant twice and he still hits all the high notes, sounds amazing, and has a stage presence like none other. Also, Jason Bonham is amazing on the drums, granted, he is not his dad, but is the closest thing to the original and amazing Led Zeppelin, I will do anything for a ticket, this show will be the greatest thing the world has seen in the past 30 years!!!

lee j | 9/12/2007, 7:08 pm EST

I saw Page/Plant in both 95 and 98. There was little or no mistakes by either of the boys. In fact, Jimmy tore it up like it was Zep’s first tour of America! Plant was the same. They treated their songs with respect and played them well. Both concerts almost brought tears to my eyes. We all know that what was will never be, however, w/Jason on drums, this is the closest we will ever, ever be to the real thing! They will do fine. It’s obvious they dont need the money, they are doing it as a tribute to Ahmet E. – the guy who basically saw their massive potential and gave them their first break. It would be the only one they would need…thirty years later we’re still talking about them and their undeniable influence!

Max | 9/12/2007, 7:15 pm EST

Anyone who thinks Robert Plant is over the should listen to his last album ‘The Mighty Rearranger’. As original and fresh as ever and the best rock album of last year. This guy can still show the youngsters a thing or two!

Jason | 9/12/2007, 7:35 pm EST

They HAVE to do a full reunion tour!!! Ever since I started listen to music I have wanted to see them live. Hopefully they’ll squeeze a short USA tour if they decide to do a reunion.

“People like this who are successful at what they do (even if it was YEARS AND YEARS ago), do not achieve said greatness by making foolish decisions that would make them look stupid.”

If great bands never did foolish things, than John Bonham would still be alive. As would Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott and a number of other talented pop artists who chose to prematurely exit this sphere through their unwise actions.

Also, expressing concern over an artist’s potentially age-restricted ability to perform doesn’t make one a “hater.” I’m a very big fan of Led Zeppelin. I’m just afraid that they won’t be able to properly perform the songs they recorded roughly 30 years ago.

Ralph | 9/12/2007, 7:38 pm EST

David! Your an A**hole.

Paul | 9/12/2007, 7:42 pm EST

I watched Robert Plant a couple of years ago in Liverpool. believe me he still has it, the power in that mans voice when he belted out whole lotta love for the encore was incredible, anyone who has doubts will be surprised, he may not have the moves anymore, but his voice is still as strong as it ever was, and I agree with Guitar Girl regarding Jimmy Page, the mans a consumate perfectionist, he wouldn’t go near stage unless he thought he could still pull it off. This is the single most historic day in music, the shadow of the Zeppelin is about to dast its shadow over all of us once again. Enjoy it, peace out.

Nick Markow | 9/12/2007, 7:59 pm EST

The members of Zeppelin are still working musicians. these guys aren’t rusty, and they will definitely put on a show that no one will forget. to me it doesn’t really matter how they sound anyways, these guys are gods. it would be a priveledge just to stand in the same building as them.
rock on Zeppelin!!!

Paul | 9/12/2007, 8:00 pm EST

David I would like to point out that Zeppelin is in a league or 3 ABOVE AC/DC, and only a complete musical idiot would deny Zeppelin there place in musical history, simply put no Zeppelin NO! AC/DC or anyother of the wannabe’s that followed. Peace out.

i would also like, wash plants boxers with my tounge if i thought zep strode the stage again. they are so awesome dudes! count me in as one of the many idiots around here who will pay good money to such a pathetic bunch of old has-beens trying to do what they had a hard time doing when they used to enter the twilight zone chasing klingons around uranus eddie.

You people who want so much to see Led Zeppelin are dreaming about the band from thirty years ago. They are all in their 60’s now. They were bifocals, need viagra, and have more wrinkles than your grandma. Stop living in the past. These are OLD men now. Have you ever seen a close up of Jagger or Keith Richards faces? How about the face of Robert Plant? They are old, wizzened has beens living off what they did thirty years ago.

Come on people, we can’t compare 1969 Stones to current day Stones. Why would we compare 1970’s Zeppelin to a re union / tribute show 30 years later. It will be great and I’d love to see it.

M&M | 9/12/2007, 10:40 pm EST

They Must tour the U S!!! Been a true fan since I was a little kid. BRING IT ON ZEP!!!! Bring a show or 2 or 3 to Fla.

Go Zep! Robert Plant is still SO hot! Let’s pray they rock the U.S.

Jimmy Plant | 9/12/2007, 10:54 pm EST

It’s too bad the younger crowd sometimes have to put them down…trying to define themselves with something new. That music will always be great…don’t take it personal kids….

michele | 9/12/2007, 11:08 pm EST

first off, guys, let us not get carried away with this whole “led zeppelin” thing. the day John Bonham died, the remaining 3 gents said they would never call themselves zeppelin again (thus the “unledded” tour in the late 90s). i am sure they will come up with some other name and they will, in fact, never truly BE led zeppelin again.
i have seen robert perform with and without jimmy. both were great however i think the statements of jimmy performing like it was their first tour are GROSS overstatements. he had to break frequently to get a drink of water and breathe… which is fine cause he is old and has done more herion than seems humanly possible. robert may not have the range he once did but very few people in their 20s can say they do either and he can still wear silver leather better than probably any AARP member on earth. you really can’t be mad at that. he sounded great both times i heard him. thinking that they could ever embarrass themselves is pure ignorance. if you want to hear what they sounded like in their 20s – go buy a CD (same with all the trash you all talk on others like the police and the stones). just because they look old and move slower is nature… you are stupid if you actually think less of them for aging… that is a fact of life my friend. for those of us who were not even born yet the day bonham died, let us all rejoice in the fact that there are still some good musicians that didnt overdose or die in plane crashes around for us to see… even in all of their “oldness”.

whitechapplejack | 9/12/2007, 11:16 pm EST

Their 1994 tour was probably the most unique concert tour I’ve seen. Imagine “4 Sticks” w/ seperate orchestra and full rhythm section? 50+ musicians rockin that riff? My ribcage still hasn’t recovered.

Don’t know what they have planned, be it a true 4some or a legion. I just hope Plant’s cords stand up.
And I hope Jimmy’s off the heroin, 30 years after the fact.

Still, what band didn’t learn from these gents/ giants? Are they not the Alpha Male hard rock band of all time?

Challenged only by the overexposed Stones, the brilliant but silly VanHalen, the consistent but dull AC/DC, heavy but challenged Sabbath, brilliant but noisy (and dead )Hendrix, tasty but obscure Blackmore, who else is left? Stevie Ray Vaughn(RIP)?

I can’t think of a better band I would rather see.

I say NO WARM UP BANDS!!!

Watch VH1’s countdown and it still doesn’t do them justice.

Buy or rent HOW THE WEST WAS WON w/ the DVD and if you don’t understand, then you are just w/out a soul.

Cheers!

sweet | 9/12/2007, 11:30 pm EST

im only 20 but fell in love with zeppelin about 4 years ago, thier music is still so relevant and with every song comes something new. from “whole lotta love” to “stairway to heaven” to “kashmire” it was all so different yet screamed zeppelin in every way… i love the fact they are doing a show and i think it will be amazing!!!

Llamee | 9/12/2007, 11:44 pm EST

Who gives a crap what those Zeppelin-haters say, Abdul and Mohommed, if they’re not Zep fans (which you’d have to be insane not to), who gives a shit on what their saying about them. Contrary to their beliefs, Led Zeppelin is never over the hill. Was Mohommed over the hill when he had a kid at what, eighty? Come on. If you want to be an ass for no apparent reason, go ahead. But what’s the point really? By calling Robert Plant an old geriatric, what good does that do anyone? You guys are full of shit. That’s not even criticism, thats just being a jerk. I think Led Zeppelin is one of the best bands of all time, and it’s fine if you don’t like them, just don’t try to take Led Zep away from the rest of us.

El Barto | 9/12/2007, 11:49 pm EST

Come to Atlanta! Mr. Plant and Page, if you’re reading this, pleae come to Atlanta, or the U.S. at least. I have been a passionate fan of yours since I was three, and I’m thirteen now, and I’ve lived my whole life listening to you, both as Led Zeppelin and as solos. It’s fine if you don’t call yourself Led Zeppelin anymore, but just having two amazing people collaborating is enough for me.

Please tour the U.S.!

Joe Flynn | 9/13/2007, 12:21 am EST

Zep was and is the greatest! I was lucky enough to see them in ‘77 at MSG when I was 11 – still the best show I’ve ever seen! I’ve been wishing I could see them again ever since.

Page, Plant and Jones – COME BACK TO NY ONE MORE TIME!!!!

whitechapplejack | 9/13/2007, 12:41 am EST

I was thinking,
and answer me truthfully:

Name one band since 1980 who has rocked the world like Zep did in their daze:

I can only think of:
(early)Metallica,
Randy Rhodes,
AC/DC Back in Black album,
Stevie Ray,
maybe Slayer,
and Tool.

Show me any other true giants.

Think about the number of years involved in that.

I love the Stones and Floyd too, but they tour so much, ya might as well go to your auntie’s house for dinner.

I WOULD PREFER TO SIT IN THE PARKING LOT of a Zeppelin show in 2007 than to SHAKE HANDS AND PARTY w/ Kanye, Brittney,50 pennies, Justin, My Chemical Pissdance, keep the Nickleback, poor ass Charlotte, ANY OF EM, ANYTIME.

Besides, all those so-called musicians will all be on your next episode of Law and Order or whatever the cop show du jour is; why see them live?

Just like those so-called bad asses ice T and ice cube… THEY’RE SO COOL…AND SO STREET… AND SO TOUGH…

AND SO MUSICALLY GIFTED…
yea right.

“Fuk da Police” except when we get paid 125k per episode to play one on tv, bloody hypocrites.

But they’re so musically talented!!
yea right.

Give me 65 yr. old Jimmy Page and his wicked band of alchemists anyday….

Whatdaya think they do all day? Play one their 125 guitars for fun and practice like true musicians do?

Or run off to the next movie shoot or awards show? Like a buncha wannabes.

ZEPPELIN RULES
WANNABES DROOL and suck out loud.

BIG Dick | 9/13/2007, 12:41 am EST

So there…I made a funny…hahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha haha. So what do you think of that?

Floydfreak | 9/13/2007, 12:41 am EST

One only has to cast his mind back to the Pink Floyd set at live 8 from a reminder of what REAL musicians with REAL talent & magic can acheive – like the Floyd, Zep will TRANCEND the event, and musical history will continue to be made….embrace & enjoy people.

Monserrat | 9/13/2007, 12:50 am EST

To all of you who would criticize, get out there and do something better! Don’t waste your precious time on the boys if you think they aren’t worth seeing and leave us, their fans, to revel in this wonderful development. I haven’t felt this excited since I waited for In Through the Out Door. John Bonham will certainly be there in spirit. Please, fellas, bring the show to us in the States, too. Don’t overlook your new fans amongst the younger Mexican crowds. Maybe a show in the Southwest—Albuquerque (take care Jimmy!) or El Paso, would draw lots of folks up from Mexico, as well. Wishing you success and lots of joy!

whitechapplejack | 9/13/2007, 1:23 am EST

Hey Limits, what r u talking about? Showing up at Live Aid in 85 out of tune is not karma. Being at Live Aid as a last second response to the massive requests, w/ no practice, tuning or planning, is not karma.

Instead, try any of the numerous and successful tours Page or PLant have embarked on since then for karma. If karma equals millions of fans studying their every musical move for insipiration, and going home more inspired and convinced than ever of the greatness of Page,Plant, and Jones, in whichever combination.

First Van Halen, then the Police and now Zepplin! If they have fun doing this show,I’m sure they will announce a major tour.Yes,I know they said Zepplin “broke up” when John Bonham died but the remaining three with Jason Bonham behind the skins would majorly kick ass!I hope they can put their differences behind and do a major tour for the fans.

Ross from Prestwick, Scotland | 9/13/2007, 5:18 am EST

The ultimate Rock Pension Fund Scheme that’s for sure, eclipsing The Police et all…it’s the decade of the ‘Reunion’, folks.
There will be mixed feelings on this from fans & rock muso’s as can already be heard/ read, and I understand why some would sell their souls to see ‘em. For me though the Legacy has been written and I would rather keep the classic albums, songs, era’s and memories of bands of this stature than hear what WAS and should never be…detuned.
One-off show? Oh, I doubt it.

Zep won’t be the same without John and not the same after 27 years apart and older, but they can still bring it on. Zep is the #1 band of all time!! No one is even close!! There is no second place….

Jreed515 | 9/13/2007, 8:57 am EST

Hey everyone! First off – I am thrilled that Zep is back – even if it is only one night. But that gives us hope for a reunion tour (for the fans!!!!). And I just want to say to all those who say they are not Led Zep without Bonzo: The Stones are still The Stones aren’t they (and they are down to 3 original members!) so why the hell would it never be Zep again without Bonzo? Yes, he will be missed, but The Who carried on (sans a few years of inactivity in the 80’s and 90’s) after Moon died and they were still The Who (without Entwistle – it gets less and less) but they are still amazind live!

Stop giving reunion bands grief for getting back together and just be grateful and enjoy it!

LIFE IT TOO SHORT TO NEVER HAVE SEEN LED ZEPPELIN!

Peace to all my fellow Rockers!!

Just because they are getting on a bit don’t mean they can’t do the business… I saw Joe Cocker out in Faro (Portugual) this summer, and he was better than I’ve ever seen him, even on film at woodstock! I live 20 minutes from the O2 venue (formerly the Millenium Dome) and I’ll be spitting bullets if I can’t get a LZ ticket….And I’m a Cheap Barsteward. PS I’m happy if people think they are not worth seeing, it increases the odds of me getting a ticket!

Me Wise Me | 9/13/2007, 10:00 am EST

I simply LOVE these morons who come here and warn us all that “Led Zep is only doing this to milk your money…etc…etc.”

Um, this is a BENEFIT concert, you dolts! They aren’t playing to make money, they’re playing to DONATE the money.
Do your homework before you run your suck in here!

Now – how about this idea?
They could make A LOT MORE MONEY to donate by touring, or at least playing SOME dates, here in the U.S.

Pay-per-view would be great for that idea, too. If I couldn’t get to their show, I would GLADLY pay $19.99 to watch the simulcast on TV.

Now…add up all the money from touring the states and from pay-per-view and CHI-CHING!

I’d say that would make the Led Zep reunion one hell of a benefit!

Zep Woman | 9/13/2007, 10:02 am EST

I just saw Plant perform at a festival in Wales three weeks ago.I was standing at the stage about two feet from him.He is truely a god.I’ve seen a lot of rock stars but I’ve never experienced anything like him.His pictures make him look old but I was close enough to see everything with my own eyes and I’ve never seen a 21 year old look as good as he does.As far as his voice goes, well there just aren’t the words to describe the power in it.Believe me he exceeds expectations.A ZEP reunion is a dream come true for a few generations of fans. Come on boys rock are world, we need you!

I have a producer “friend” that works quite a bit with John Paul Jones.
Current word is that there WILL BE A TOUR IN 2008.
Europe and North America for sure, with most of the proceeds going to various charities.
They are working out the logistics.
Look for an announcement in Oct/Nov.
- “And a new day will dawn for those who stand long”

jinks | 9/13/2007, 12:22 pm EST

Turned down the chance to see them back in 1975(I think – heavy times!). There were loads of bands touring all of the time back then – Floyd, Purple, Hawkwind, Yes, Uriah Heep, ELP, Thin Lizzy – you name ‘em. Thought it would all go on forever! It was the biggest mistake I ever made. I would crawl over broken glass to see this! I have spent the day at work listening to album after album and thinking that it doesn’t get much better than this. There are only 3 bands that would have this effect on me. Led Zep, the original Floyd line-up (I saw them at Knebworth in ‘75), and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Only one of these is impossible. I can only hope for at least one of the others. 1 in 20 million chance eh? Hmmmm….Is there any part of my body that I can’t keep crossed?!

My graphic designer friend told me in Feb he’d been hired to design
some merch for a zep tour which he
did and submitted. I’ve asked him
many times when their gonna tour but all he knew was what he’d been asked to do. Rumours of Zep playing the Ahmet tribute show
have been on the ‘net for months
as well as the Toronto radio show
where JPJones said something about a tour I think, this was said around Jan or Feb 2007. I’d say a tour is almost a sure bet.

many graphic designers are corporate sellouts in the business world. sad but true, but they also need to earn a living. there are few and far between who are fortunate to do design work for great bands like zep. kudos to those few artists who have that opportunity. their talent is admired and appreciated.

I am posting on the internet!! | 9/13/2007, 1:27 pm EST

I apologize for my earlier post saying that John Mayer should replace Page. I wrote that because I’m too young to realize that John Mayer’s blues schtick is essentially a third-rate Stevie Ray Vaughn impression, and that Mayer’s playing makes the guy who plays lead guitar for Los Lonely Boys sound like the second coming of Jimi Hendrix. And look who Mayer’s girlfriend is: Jessica Simpson–pro-tools created pop star crud tends to date other pro-tools created pop star crud. That is to say, Mayer is merely Nick Lachey with a guitar.

You do. Enough to post about them, anyway. If you really didn’t give a crap about the band one way or the other you wouldn’t have even read the article, let alone written a post about them. As it is, you’re just trying to get a rise out of people who do like Led Zeppelin.

I think Fallout Boy sucks, so I don’t waste my time reading articles about them or making posts about how much I dislike their music.

Mike | 9/13/2007, 2:23 pm EST

Great news. And to all you haters out there, go pine for your boy band reunions on another web-site. Leave this site to people who know good music when they hear it. ZEPPELIN FOREVER!!!

joey | 9/13/2007, 2:24 pm EST

Led Zepplein did nothing for music, nothing good that is.

steve | 9/13/2007, 2:28 pm EST

Any boy band is better than Led Zepplein. Britney Spears has more talent than they ever will. How old are they? At least in thier 50’s.
I don’t even think of that crap as music. No beat. That singer looks like my friends grandmother.

hehe | 9/13/2007, 2:36 pm EST

I see the trolls are out looking to get a rise out of people. Just point, laugh then ignore them. They will surely go away.

Mike | 9/13/2007, 2:37 pm EST

Steve and Joey. You two are hilarious!! I’ll just wait for you to at least turn 10 years old before I even consider talking about music with you two morons. See you in a couple of years, now leave the web-site before you get hurt.

Right… because age and looks determines one’s musical ability. Stupid Pavarotti… being all old, fat and hairy. Where did people get off calling him one of the greatest tenors of all time? He didn’t even have a catchy beat in his music!

By the way, I caught a clip of Britney Spears’ latest “performance” on the news a couple of days ago. By your looks=talent formula, it would seem that she has very little music talent. Hair extentions, big ol’ gut hanging out, couldn’t dance, was off on the lip-synching…

It’s a good thing that music automatically becomes invalidated after a couple of decades. Let’s tell all those classical radio stations to stop playing Bach and Mozart! That crap is, like, SO old!

To be totally truthful I cant even think of one song from this band besides stairway to heaven only cause p diddy did his own version that’s way better than Led Zeppleins.

BACH ROCK | 9/13/2007, 2:49 pm EST

oh no… Jason Bonham is a good drummer… but he doesn’t have his father’s essence. they need to get over the vanity of having Bonzo’s son taking the throne and get a guy that can actually play John Bonham’s parts the way he would have played them.

And besides Jason… Plant’s gonna be struggling… but then again, it’d be really cool to see the 3 of them on stage together.

john | 9/13/2007, 2:50 pm EST

It’s not cause the music is old, it’s because it sucks.

NOT FOR THE HATERS

Are you wishing for a tour ?
What about the Nov 20 release date
for the expanded Song Remains The Same and then the Nov 26 show.

Looks like the promotion machine is gearing up, maybe the concert
money goes to charity but they will
have a new release to promote.
Every Zep loving burn out will now have to get their 3rd version of
Song Remains The Same, we had vinyl, then cd and now the songs
in the movie but left out.

Smells like Zep Spirit on tour
for sure.

fuck off to all those stupid bashers. Nobody asks you to write a comment if you have no idea about, and interests in, this band. Nothing against people who don’t like this reunion or Led Zeppelin in generally, who can argue and know a bit something about rock and roll, that’s allright. Tastes are different of course. But posting a comment just to make yourself important without any shimmer of what it’s all about, ah come on… go listening to the pop charts. So much for me, i love led zeppelin, would be excited about a reunion though it would possibly destroy some magic and myth. Dear Greetings to all of you led zeppeliners

Leave it to the big boys to come back and show everyone how it’s done.Led Zeppelin is the foundation of many and all forms of rock and roll.the few true, good rock bands of today/right now would sight them as an influence.let me ask you this.will pete wentz or gerard way have this problem when they are the same age?i think not.so think about that.everyday a 15 year old dowloads, buys, or borrows
zeppelin’s music..perfection is about permanent existence.i count them as #1 on this small list.it’s not about the money.thry always made money regardless of age.so i’m packing my bags for the misty mountains!!

For the record, you can count the number of songs that Led Zep “borrowed” from various other artists on one hand. Now…count the number of songs the band put out, and you’ll see how pathetically small of a percentage those “borrowed” songs really are.

And…seeing as how LED ZEP’S sounds have since been “borrowed” by various, no talent having rap bands and artists, etc. – it really makes any whining about “jilted blues musicians” not receiving their due irrelevant and moot.

BTW – Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Halen, Jeff Beck, and DOZENS of other hall-of-fame bands “borrowed” licks/lyrics/music/songs from others, so WHO REALLY FREAKIN’ CARES????

Plenty of people go out of their way to post intentionally aggravating comments on bands they don’t like. Those are the people my “mean spirited rants” are typically aimed at.

This band MUST be pretty fucking special to stir THIS MANY people – almost 30 YEARS after their last album.

And…for all of you saying “oh, Plant won’t be able to sing, hit the high notes, blah, blah…” WHEN was the last time you heard him sing?? The guy sounded just fine the last time I heard him (which was just a couple of years ago) so SNAP OUT OF IT ALREADY!

I think some people just want to bag on these guys because they’re pushing 60 yrs old now. So what? How is that an indication of how they’ll sound?? Sammy-freakin-Hagar is almost 60 too and sounds GREAT. Get a grip!

i was a 14 year-old girl in 1971 when i saw led zeppelin. it was my very first concert ever, and despite the many i’ve seen since, it remains as the one that is the source of envy to everyone i tell, my kids and their friends included. and to the teens and twenty-somethings who say “they look like old women”…what makes you think you’ll stay firm and fresh-faced forever? at least those aging rockers have something to show for their wrinkles…a lasting legacy of great music, amazing showmanship, and longevity that screamo bands like “fall-out boy” and rappers like “p diddy” will never achieve, no matter how long they infiltrate the airwaves with crap.

For all you haters out there grow the eff up. These guys in their 80’s let alone their 60’s can still put on a better show than 90% of the acts out there today. I have seen The Stones twice in the past 3 years and Mick can still sing every song perfect, and Keith can still play every song perfect. Even Axl with the new rendition of guns n roses can still belt out every song as good if not better than he ever could.

Bottom line, the greatest Rock n Roll band in history is reuniting. Rock on Zeppelin!!!

I cant believe RS is’nt making a bigger deal out of this! Led Zep are back!!! the greatest rock&roll band of all time!! ive appied 4 tickets but with there only being 20,000 tickets on sales and there being over 20 million applications, think my chances r slim!! please RS give this more coverage and stop licking kanye and 50 arse! both albums are 2 stars at best! the only reason your raving about them is cus there on your cover and me thinks part of the deal for there “exclusive” interviews were 4 decent reviews.

Kyle..

The current owner of Rolling Stone will have to pass on before they make a big deal about Led Zeppelin.

Rolling Stone is famous for their early Anti Zeppelin reviews and non coverage of Zep tours.

They missed the most influental band of all time. They dissed them. It’s gonna take a couple of generations of Rolling Stone ownership before they admit that.

In response to Kyle: The reason RS magazine does not give the mighty Zeppelin the respect and coverage they deserve is because of a long running grudge. In short, they panned some early Zeppelin albums (all of which are now considered essential), so when Zeppelin got twice the size of every other band in the world and RS could not ignore them anymore, they begged for exclusives and Zep essentially said F/Off. RS thus, has been determined ever since to understate the greatness and importance of rock’s greatest band.

Following The WHO for four shows in 2006-2007 proved our old fav’s can more than do it. They are still poignant and energetic. Any Led Zep reunion is a rock and roll blessing. Ironically, the WHO used Zeppelin music to prelude their show and Townshend is opening up for them, great stuff indeed. It took Pete Townshend 23 years to write a new WHO album. Can Page, Plant and JP Jones follow?

Zepforever | 9/13/2007, 6:59 pm EST

I keep hearing about Led Zeppelin ripping off other people’s songs or melodies and in a few respects this is true. Jimmy Page did rip off the melody from Spirit’s “Taurus” for “Stairway to Heaven” and the band was sued successfully over “Whole Lotta Love”. So what. In many respects having your song or melody copied is a form of respect or flattery among musicians, even among the ones who ultimately sued the violators. Jimmy Page has acknowledged being influenced by various musical styles or bands in interviews as far back as his Yardbird days. As for millions of people clamoring to get a chance to see Led Zeppelin, most of them probably not even born during the band’s heyday, i’m not surprised. Yesterday’s legend is stronger than today’s reality. Lets face it though, despite their diminished capabilities, and with todays young musicians relying more on hype than talent this is still going to be the show of the year maybe even the decade. If they do decide to go on a full tour more power to them; it will break all sales records and hopefully influence more artists to break away from the overproduced robotic pop crap we have gotten used to over the last 10 years. However, i won’t pay hundreds of dollars to see a show for a band that i saw in 1977 for less than $10 dollars along with two other bands. Matter of perspective i guess.

Squeeze my Lemon | 9/13/2007, 7:01 pm EST

He might not be the fastest or the flashiest but no one plays that Sun-burst Lessie like Jimmy. From his bluez runs fueled with raw emotion on the early albums to the intricate techniques of the key changes & sonic tonalities of Achilles Last Stand, Page is in a class unto himself. Surely the Zep was about skilled musicianship unlike the garbage that assaults one’s ears today put out by a bunch of poseurs with no discernable talent beyond saying put yo hands in da air likes ya just doan Kay-air. Real Music has been dead since the century ended & there hasn’t been a decent band since Pearl Jam

miccc | 9/13/2007, 7:03 pm EST

Remember, no band in rock history (with the lone exception of the Bealtes) has sold as many records as Led Zeppelin. Yet, from the coverage and treatment they get in R.S. magazine, you would never know it. Did you know Zep have sold more records in the U.S. than The Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, and Neil Young combined? By every standard Zep deserve to be in the Beatles/Stones pantheon, but this biased magazine would rather go out of business than admit that.

also… can we please note that it is zeppElin, not zepplin. not zeppelein. not zepplein. ZEPPELIN. if you want to be haters at least be educated haters.

ALSO, to Jreed515… they WILL never truly be led zeppelin without bonham… but i am not saying they shouldn’t reunite by any means. they should… i saw the artists formerly known as the Who (still using the name the who) and it was amazing but if you ask me, it is disrespectful. i think the remaining three LZers really honored Bonzo by saying that they would never be Led Zeppelin again, truly.
either way i can’t freakin’ wait. i am 25 years old and have loved those guys since i can remember thanks to my parents being excellent. i will die a happy girl having heard over the hills and far away live.

This is bullshit. I hope it’s not true. Maybe it’s some twisted, hilarious joke? Led Zeppelin is not the same without Bonham. No way. I’ve always had a deep respect for Zeppelin calling it quits after he died, stating it wouldn’t be Zeppelin without him. This is fucked. I absolutely worship Zeppelin, just as much as anyone else… I am saddened to see this actually happen. I’ve always thought it would be a good idea…but not in reality. It just shows that everyone has their price. This is fucked, completely fucked. I can’t even think of an intelligent way to voice my frustration, other than to say it’s fucked.

c’mon engst, i think that is a little harsh. telling any musicians that had such chemistry that it is “fucked” for them to ever play together again just seems wrong to me. i feel the same as you do about them calling it quits as Zeppelin but i think you are missing their point a little. they didn’t say they would never play together again, they said they would never use the name again… which is very respectful.

Okay Rolling Stone dissed zep for disrespectfully mimicing Sonny Boy Williamson cos Rolling Stone couldn’t recognise a tribute – they were proved wrong and need to get over it.

Everyone borrowed from everyone _ I’ve heard the 10 seconds of Spirits Taurus that forms th intro lick to Stairway to Heaven – Led Zep toured with spirit and Page borrowed it – its probably borowed form a piece of classical music anyway – basic contrary motion bass goes down scale whilst other notes appear to go up. Didn’t here a vocal melody or any of the other great things about Stairway – You can bet Spirit felt proud to have been part of the inspiration for where page took that musical device – same applies to Black Mountain side and Dazed and confused.

Zeppelin redefined rock – the Page Plant bootlegs I have absolutely rock – Can’t wait to John Paul Jones slots in again (have you heard Zooma!!!). Stuff the consert someone lock tehm in a studio for a week.

RS ignored Zep in the early days, totally dismissing their work. Then the Zep got TOO big for RS. Jimmy Page never bowed down to anyone.
The mighty Zep hasn’t done the unthinkable like The Who and reformed with any able bodied drummer. They have kept it very classy. They are in the twilight of their lives. Let them do what they want. They will not be an embarrassment. Plant/Page/Jones are too talented and have to much respect for that to happen. Taking Jason as their drummer proves their love and respect for the Zeppelin family.

Plants hasn’t been able to hit the high notes since 1973 (and some people have actually suggested the “Immigrant Song” on the setlist — are you kidding me?) , Jimmy can’t improvise like he used too, no Bonzo, god knows why JPJ agreed to this. You guys get your precious tickets, I’m gonna go listen to some Led Zep boots…

Ray | 9/14/2007, 8:41 am EST

it would be unrealistic to get all zep’s fans hyped about the concert, find out its in london, and then get bummed. don’t worry people…have faith! Led Zep wikll rock again.(in a real tour this time)

Ray | 9/14/2007, 8:48 am EST

also, i have waited for zeppelin to go on tour, and if i am disappointed, i am sure other fans here in america will be disappointed too. plus, i wanna meet robert plant and jimmy page before they die.

Me Wise Me | 9/14/2007, 9:05 am EST

While I can’t just take another forumite’s word for it here about supposed “inside info” regarding Led Zep touring North America and Europe following this one-off, I DO agree that it is unrealistic to only expect them to play one show for 20,000.

If I’m LED ZEP, and I’m seeing 20 MILLION PEOPLE trying to get tix to one show at a 20,000 seat venue – I’m already packing my bags for a loooooong tour of the States and everywhere else!

I truly believe that this WILL happen, and I can only hope that they play a full scale American tour (not just an LA show and NY show) because I’ll tell ‘ya right now…they will undoubtedly need to play several shows in each state to satisfy the demand.

When the impending tour is finally over, let’s take a look at how much money it grossed – and compare it to all the gone-tomorrow bands like Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, etc. etc.

That should be good for a YEAR’S worth of laughs! LOL!

Aqua Teen Hunger Force | 9/14/2007, 9:50 am EST

If the Stones can do it in their 60s, why the hell couldn’t Page/Plant/Jones?

You detractors out there sound like a bunch of haters.

Rusty | 9/14/2007, 10:02 am EST

I’ve been a big Zep fan all my life, and I’ve also been among those who were against a reunion, due to their age, limitations and loyalty to Bonzo.
However, for some reason, it really seems like the time is right for this to happen.
Their status in rock history is set in stone, and I don’t think anything can ruin it.
I saw the Stones in 2005 and loved it. They really rocked their asses off.
The stuff that Page and Plant have done together since Zep’s breakup has been pretty damned good.
Sure, Plant can wail like he used to, but I don’t think that really matters much.
It’s about making music, and I have a feeling these guys can still bring it – maybe not in a 1972 kind of way – and do so in a very entertaining way. Plant has always been able to keep things fresh.
I’d pay $250 just to watch it on TV.
I do hope they go on tour and maybe even make a new album.

Why is evryone all fired up about Led Zeppeling gettin back together?
They aint the best rock band…Lynyrd Skynyrd is!
Them boys been doin it for over 30 years and don’t get the respect they deserve.
Zeppelin sings about Gollum and evil dwarves and lemon juice runnin down their leg and kashmir sweaters.
What the hell is that all about?
Skynyrd sings about drugs and booze and nekid chicks…thats hawt!
SKYNYRD RULES!

Kevin James | 9/14/2007, 11:41 am EST

I would definatley be against the band doing a new album. To me the recorded work of Led Zeppelin should be what it always has been, the chemistry of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and the hammer of the Gods John Henry Bonham. As for the reunion concert and possible tour, that is another matter all together. I think the time is right, and I think it is NOT disrespecting the late Bonzo in the least because they are keeping it in the family and filling the drum seat with Jason Bonham, JOhn’s own flesh and blood and the ONLY person who can do justice to the impecable work of John in my oppinion. In fact I think JOhn would give his blessing to this reunion without a doubt. Lets not forget that at the soundcheck for thew Knebworth festival in 79 John put Jason on the drums and went out in front to check out his band and was blown away at what his son was doing and how he sounded playing with Zeppelin even at that young age. I think John would be a VERY proud father to see his boy playing with his band, and I think he would be honored.

Jim Bob poor boy, couldnt appreciatte Zeppelin, too bad soo sad. Luckyly for everyone that has a mind that is/was able to listen to this great band all i can say is “PLEASE WE WANT ZEPPELIN ON A WORLD TOUR”.
This is the greatest rock & roll band, and theres’s a lot of people like me that were unable to watch them live, please make our dreams come true.

Just read on the NME site that thet have extended the deadline to get tickets by two days due to astronomical demand. The site received 120-MILLION hits yesterday alone, with an additional 25-million people registering for tickets.

Roy Harper | 9/14/2007, 11:49 am EST

I must agree with “KHuddle”. I hate to be a cynic, not a “hater” & I’m a huge fan, but Zep style of bombastic rock is a young man’s rock. Yes, Mick Jagger can still run around & is in good shape, but listening to him butcher “rocks off” & others is brutal. Its a speaking voice now, backup singers bailing him out. Anyhow, Plant sings fine for his solo career, but suggesting say “Immagrant Song”, he simply can’t do it. Even his latest studio albums, his high notes are labored & nothing close to even later Zep. Its like a croak! The power & energy is not just from leaping about(which they won’t), but also from the soaring vocals, emoting in guitar solos, which won’t be acheived. Yes, they may play the notes(though they were never a band to reproduce the studio versions live…which is great), but it won’t pack a punch. You’ll be “seeing” Led Zeppelin in name only. If you have fun, then great, but if you really want to see a tour to be bowled over by a show, both musically & energy wise, I just don’t see it. I don’t care how wrinkled they are or not, that Zep catalogue, especially the early stuff,is just sonic! both acoustic & electric. If you have to tune down(see Blabbermouth.net, the guitar tech said they are tuning down the songs) & skip over tunes that can no longer be sung, don’t do it! All you get to say is “I saw Led Zep”. One show, ok, but it will be a watered down version if a they tour. That would be a shame.

Me Wise Me | 9/14/2007, 11:53 am EST

JimBob – Please post the results here after you look-up how many records Led Zeppelin has sold vs. that of Lynyrd Skynyrd. It ain’t even close, hoss!

When you read those results and find that Zep’s record sales dwarf that of Skynyrd’s – perhaps then you’ll realize why so many people are jacked at the prospect of this, the greatest rock band of ALL TIME, launching a full scale tour.

But look at the bright side: Maybe some of them good ‘ol boys in Skynyrd will offer to take a break from all that boozin’ and womanizing long enough to move and set-up Led Zep’s gear.

After all, them Southern boyz make GREAT roadies!

Me Wise Me | 9/14/2007, 12:02 pm EST

Roy Harper, whether or not Plant can still sing “The Immigrant Song” is something neither you or I know, so to suggest he cannot sing it is merely speculation on your part.

But I would suggest with all the hits and great songs they’ve put out since 1968, if I saw them live and they DIDN’T play that particular song – it would hardly be noticed – and it certainly wouldn’t be a deal-breaker.

Trust me, you won’t find anyone here refusing to see them just because “The Immigrant Song” doesn’t appear on the set list.
I guarantee it.

BTW – us musicians don’t need to consult Blabbermouth.com to learn that they are tuning down the songs. As I already pointed out, 99% of bands already do that ANYWAY, so that is a non-factor and hardly a revelation.

Roy Harper | 9/14/2007, 12:55 pm EST

Points taken “Me Wise Me”. I used the Immagrant song as an example only. There are many he could pull of fine, as he did in ‘95, Kashmir, Thank you, etc, but for my tastes, I’d like to see more brought to the table. Bottom line, 99% would come away totally happy, so that is what its about…re: tuning down, yes many bands do that live to accomodate the singer, but to me, this is Robert Plant who set the bar, he was Rock’s premier howler, so to have to tune down so he can sing in a low register, would disappoint me. I don’t expect him to be in ‘69 form though, obviously. Again, to use the Stones as an example, seeing them live recently doing Monkey Man, & after the “solo” section, he does a screaming part, now, its handled by a female singer. That’s a major thumbs down, he’s not even performing. To a “lay” fan, that might be fine, but I want some balls brought too! Maybe I’m wrong re: LZ.

just one wish | 9/14/2007, 1:50 pm EST

I really hope they do “achilles last stand”. I have maybe 20 live versions of that song(mostly bootlegged) and each time they played it, it just got more and more intense.

Me Wise Me | 9/14/2007, 1:55 pm EST

Harper, let me just say – I HOPE you have the chance to be wrong!

LOL

I really hope they tour.

And while “Kashmir” is obviously one of rock’s greatest songs…I agree…I’d prefer less of the 10 minute anthems and more tunes. Some of my favs from them never got a lot of radio airplay.

Regarding the tuning…Led Zep didn’t record everything in 440, which I’m sure you know. There are a handful of songs (”The Song Remains The Same” is one) where I believe they actually tuned UP (or sped the track up) in the studio after recording the song.

I wasn’t there to see it live for myself, but it’s hard to imagine Plant was EVER able to sing that song that high. Even in the movie, the tuning is considerably lower for that song – and that was 1973.

miccc | 9/14/2007, 2:09 pm EST

I agree with Kevin James and some of Roy Harper’s points. No band in the world, not even the magnificent Who at their absolute peak, could compete with a fully focused and firing on all cylinders Led Zeppelin in their prime. I’ve seen virtually all the great bands, and Zeppelin were in a class by themselves. We can’t realistically expect that kind of power without Bonzo, but it still could be very good.

Roy Harper | 9/14/2007, 2:16 pm EST

If I had the chance, I’d be there for sure…plant sounded great singing Immigrant Song on “how the west was won” & BBC(1971). He sang Rock n Roll in low register in ‘73 on SRSame. But it still had power. (in ‘72 on the DVD, he sang it high like the studio). I didn’t particularly like the vocals on their get together in the mid 90’s, but seeing such a show would be quite an event. another blog also mention they probably wouldn’t improvise like they did in their Hey Day, & I have to agree. they may not anyhow, just based on the times, the 70’s was the height of never playing the 3:00 studio version. Again, not being mean spirited, but that band was all about the great power, & quite visual. other than Jerry Lee Lewis etc, we’re seeing Rock get old in front of our eyes. At what point do we say “ok, you’re too old”? It seems most people give lots of consessions, when the band isn’t delivering. Will it take for Charlie Watts to actually lose a limb on stage to say “ok, enough!”.

Peter Grant | 9/14/2007, 2:55 pm EST

By the way, there are references here to Stairway being a Spirit song “Taurus”. While LZ has such a great catalogue, I did hear that DJ on Howard Stern who did his homework & brought in all the Zep tunes they stole. I’m a huge fan & it was a shock. The 1st album is nearly all stolen, & not just the old blues songs. Babe I’m going to Leave you, Joan Baez song, all the lyrics as is. Not an issue if they gave her credit, but its listed as Page/Plant. Dazed & Confused, I thought a variation of Yardbirds “confused”, but again, a song from 1966, I’ve forgotten the artist. (can anyone elaborate who heard this?)…Black Mountain Side was a song “Black Mountain Creek” or something, again, note for note, all preceding Led Zep’s versions. The DJ told the stories behind it, the artist that wrote Black Mtn Side was a folk guy that Page had seen live many times….Communication Breakdown was a song called “breakdown” or something, again, nearly identical. The only stretch was, the DJ said “your time is gonna come” was a rip off of “Dear Mr. Fantasy”. Similar, but I think a stretch. The others left ZERO doubt. Of course You Shook Me & I can’t quit you, they gave due credit….Finally the mind blower was Spirits 1970 song, Taurus, with the EXACT intro to Stairway. Rocks biggest epic song long intro was someone elses! Download it if you don’t believe me! Turns out Zep toured with Spirit in 1969-70 & they performed that song…of course everyone knows the tails of “whole lotta love” & “Lemon Song” being old blues songs, rearranged slightly, & they take the song credit, but these others is just unreal. Can others give more info on this if they heard it? I’m not doing this justice. It was disturbing.

Ghost of John Bonham | 9/14/2007, 3:05 pm EST

Blimey! So I see those lads are actually going to put on a show. My Jason will certainly kick some arse on the drums. But what is up with the hight price of £125 for the tickets? Is that what shows go for these days? Well it looks like I may have to rouse my spirit to roam the stage that day of the show just to give the people their money’s worth. Oh and by the way the booze and the women up here are just fabulous. I get hammered up here and don’t have to worry about choking on my vomit!

the gods | 9/14/2007, 3:13 pm EST

And then Led Zeppelin proclaimed, “Let there be sound”

Roy Harper | 9/14/2007, 3:18 pm EST

I heard that Stern show, it was disturbing. Someone mentioned that they were just borrowing. Borrowing, they lifted WHOLE songs. I love Zep, but they were wrong. That’s like Van Halen putting song writing credits of EVH, AVH & DLR on Pretty Woman or You Really Got me! “Babe I’m going to leave you” was identical, other than Joan Baez’s goofy Tiny Tim voice. She even did the ad libs “I aint jokin’ I got to ramble”. How is that borrowing? I don’t know how they didn’t get sued, & George Harrison did for My Sweet Lord, which was indeed a stretch. Did Peter Grant rough Joan Baez up, or maybe Bobby Plant was given her some serious Flower Power!…I unfortunately don’t remember the artist that did “black mtn side”, which again was lifted note for note. That’s highway robbery. “Whole lotta Love” is “borrowing”. Though the starving blues artists weren’t too pleased. Though in the long run it gave them notorioty. The intro to Stairway without a doubt was again just theivery, not borrowing. Its a long intro, intricate, & note for note, that’s not borrowing. If you were the barely making guitarist in Spirit (Sir Randy California), I doubt you’d laugh & say “ha, he just borrowed that, silly man” FOOL! The DJ said they tried to sue years ago on that. Peter Grant made sure they never recorded again!!

Me Wise Me | 9/14/2007, 3:35 pm EST

Without looking it up, I think I remember the name JAKE HOLMES as the guy who supposedly got “Dazed And Confused” (his was called “I’m Confused”) lifted from him.

His reaction?
“Ah, what the hell…let ‘em have it. They’ll probably do more with it than I would.”

Truer words couldn’t have been spoken! Thanks, Jake!

BTW…Harper…bad example using Van Halen. They just wiped all of Michael Anthony’s songwriting credits off every single song they ever made. And HE was an original member and co-writer of many of the songs.

Ardie | 9/14/2007, 3:35 pm EST

I Agree with RS that this maybe the ‘holy grail” of all reunions. And come to think of it, they will do this because of their gratitude tot he guy who first gave them a recording break not because they needed the money, how cool would that be? So, if they will continue this as a reunion concert tour, then this time , it will be for us, FANS. Who never had seen them LIVE during their days, and some of us fanatics “can rest in peace” . Damn, I should have gotten that “Led Zep Angel Tattoo” 15 years ago…

Roy Harper | 9/14/2007, 3:48 pm EST

ah, Me Wise Me, I’m one ahead of you again, look twice, you notice I did not include Mike Anthony for the credits! That’s another issue for another day. Nice nice of VH!..Jake Holmes, that’s it!! Benevolent man. And Zep did make that their own, but really, in good conscience, how could you just take a song & say “he’s an unknown fool, this song…its MINE NOW!!” (manical laugh). Give the guy the song credit!…Me Wise Me, you know your Rock though, I like that….MICCC, great point too, Zep from inception to say ‘73, you could argue rocks alltime greatest live act. No blow up dolls, no run ways just pure heat from the stage, no frills. The Who, live at Leeds era too(or at the Rolling Stone R&R Circus, brilliant), Hendrix of course, amazing performer & player, the Babe Ruth of Rock…and a handful of others, for pure raw power…this blogging can be fun, a first. So productive at work!

I’m scanning the net & there’s lots to this out there. Wanton Song was really a Carpenters song!

I wish it weren’t so! If it were one song, so be it. anyhow, read on for yourself P&P!
(from Wikipedia)..”reasons not clear”, funny!
It is still not widely recognized that Holmes was the author of the classic song. Page, while on tour with the Yardbirds in 1967, saw Holmes perform the song in Greenwich Village [1]. Within months, he had adapted the song for that group, and later, for Led Zeppelin. For reasons that are not entirely clear, Page claimed sole songwriting credit for the song when it appeared on Led Zeppelin’s debut album.

If you’re going to criticize Zeppelin for their music or for being old, at least tell us who it is that YOU like.

miccc | 9/14/2007, 5:49 pm EST

Obviously, all great bands have covered other’s songs. Zep’s sin was not giving proper writing credit when they did it. It was a mistake, and I suspect that Peter Grant had something to do with it. In every example I’ve heard, the overall Zeppelin versions are far superior to the original tune (or snippets of tunes) that inspired them. The vast majority (90%+)of Zeppelin’s work is so originally powerful and compelling that they certainly could have afforded to properly credit the sources for the rest. Despite this blunder, Zep remain easily rock’s greatest band, IMO.

kcv | 9/14/2007, 5:50 pm EST

it isn’t news led zeppelin borrowed from other songs….well heck they ain’t the only one.

johnny | 9/14/2007, 7:06 pm EST

Rumor on the blogosphere is that Plant is going to select one song from each of his classic concerts and then lip sychn for the whole show. He certainly can’t sing any of ‘em as they were meant to be sung. Except for the drummer, these guys are so ancient and decrepit they can barely stand up for 2 hours! Will they all roll out in wheelchairs!? They’ll just be shitting and pissing all over the stage and their reputation will be forever mired in the feces. A once-brilliant career stinking up the garbage can. They all sell out in the end, I guess. Maybe they’ll ask Milli Vanilli to be the opening act.

plagerism | 9/14/2007, 7:13 pm EST

best thing that ever happened to most of the artists zep took material from. Lot of good money was made for these other artists.

What I find most interesting is how completely different zeps versions of the songs are. Compare the two versions, and you will see just how different they always are.

1. To all the teenage douchebags out there dropping age numbers, these “grannies” pulled more snatch before you were born, than you ever will in your life. They did more chemicals in excess than you’ve even heard of. One even died from it. You should leave such a legacy.

2. Who gives a shit if Zeppelin borrowed/copied/STOLE songs without credit? They rocked all of it and almost every song left a indelible memory on millions. I’m fairly savvy on classic rock, and I still would have to look up who the hell “Spirit” was. Joan Baez is fine, but how many concert records did she break? Who ever blasted her music out of their car windows?

Page, Plant, Jones, Bonham, Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Starr: Not much before matters, and nothing after would ever be the same.

Mohammed El Azir | 9/14/2007, 9:53 pm EST

I think this concert is just a one time thing as they are much too old to go on a long tour. Robert Plant looks like he is close to seventy, a wrinkled, prune old man.

i for one am glad zep is getting back again. i was the roadie in the old days who used to stuff plants jeans with rolled up pantys that were tossed from the crowd. a 99% male crowd at all zep concerts with 99% of this 99% all wearing pantys they would rip off during dazed and confused and throw on stage tom jones style. and, while page was into yet another of his long, boring, dreary, LSD fueled guitar solos, plant would spend that time sniffing the pantys and keep the ones he liked so he could unwind after the show to a good wank. the pantys he did’nt wank to, i had to roll up as crotch stuffing for him for the next show to make it appear to the male fans that he had a large dick…which he did’nt…and still does’nt. just thought i’d let you all know.

JJ | 9/15/2007, 12:23 am EST

Led Zeppelin is past ther prime? What the fuck does that mean? They were never a band to jump around the stage or some shit. Music isn’t like baseball. Look at BB King he’s like 80 and he still performs. The music is the only thing that matters at a Zeppelin show.

page & plant | 9/15/2007, 12:25 am EST

Just for the record, it was you who used to wear the pantys also…we just sniffed them (oh…and we wanked to them also). But the point is BIG Dick…we may wank, but its you who is the WANKER!
page & plant…coming soon to a town near you…get your pantys ready boys (ooops…we mean, girls. Got to watch the image you know).

hey FRiDA…what do you mean, “what happens to your gash stays in your gash?” i dont get it.

Ace | 9/15/2007, 12:29 am EST

ugh, i hate all these little fuckers talking about how led zeppelin sucks and zac effron rocks!!! im a subscriber and when i saw that zac effron cover i said to myself: i knew it! the editors of rolling stone are 14 yr old girls!

oh and im may only be 16, but i have an appreciation for wats good and wat isnt. even if u disagree with my opinion, you cant deny the facts: led zeppelin was one of the greatest bands of all time. EASILY holding their own to the beatles and the rolling stones.

FRiDA | 9/15/2007, 12:33 am EST

i said what happens at the gorge stays at the gorge. if you have never been there, you will never know.

brian gallagher | 9/15/2007, 5:54 am EST

fuck all you naysayers.you don`t get it and you never will.name one band today that even matters.you can`t. fuck you.

dufus | 9/15/2007, 1:55 pm EST

brian gallagher, you are a twit and a fop and therefore dont know a single thing about anything which means your postings have as much use a week old discarded and used piece of ass paper! as for a band today…The Dixie Chicks, now this is a band with a ‘whole lotta gash’! Do do do do, gotta a whole lotta gash, do do do do, gotta a whole lotta gash…! Oh, and FRiDA, i have personally not been to your gash but i know lots who have and reports back to me about the place are less than stellar and of course, because i do receive reports about your gash (boys will be boys FRiDA) obviously means that what happens at your gash does not stay at your gash…’nuff said.

DiEGO | 9/15/2007, 2:08 pm EST

FRiDA has left this web site, due to the womanizing, narrow-minded, disrespectful shallow pricks here, such as dufus.

dufus is cursed. he will not win any led zeppelin tickets. ignore the bastard.

Anonymous | 9/15/2007, 3:00 pm EST

anyone ever see the footage of stairway early on in zepp s career? plant clearly states she is a real and distinct individual-even though crowely says he had and there can be many scarlet ladies-Robert Plant has over the years dropped many different clues as to who she is so when she`s revealed more completely she will have all these identifers,it`s situation where really only 1 individual can and will complete & ultimately fulfill this——also to mr.roady want`abe–confuzed u r—upside down 6`s about Plants BIG ONE—-AS HE`S A NATURAL NO SOCKS NEEDED–HERES A LITTLE CLUE EVEN IF IT HASN`T BEEN EXSPOSED THERE`S OTHER WAYS TO FIGURE —SOME OF KNOW THE SERECTS –ONE IS A FACTUAL SCIENCEIFIC METHYD

FRiDA | 9/15/2007, 4:50 pm EST

zep is just like me…read on…we use people. thanks guys…i need the support. its feminine males like dirty diego, a-choo, far away, and such fanny lickers that allow gash merchants like me to survive on a site like this. the reality is, i dont have an ounce of respect for any of you but i choose to use you when someone like dufus comes along and actually tells the truth, then the bottom feeder feminine males like dirty diego, a-choo, far away et-al come out like puss from a lanced boil to defend my chastity (oh…if you only knew). i would like to think that what goes on with the gash stays there but alas, all good things come to an end. hey dufus…fancy a visit to my gash? if you dont, my intention is to invite zep, but certainly not losers like dirty diego, flatulance away, and ass-choo.

little timmy | 9/15/2007, 4:54 pm EST

zep is past it. well written FRiDA. The best posting yet, full of insight and honesty. At least you admit to being the gash merchant you are and which we have known you to be all along including your accurate description of the loser merchants like dirty diego, flatulance away and ass-merchant. Hey…how about extending an invite to me to visit your gash?

dear FRiDA name-stealer | 9/15/2007, 5:04 pm EST

I see that you jerks have nothing else better to do than steal others’ screen names and be offensive towards women. My guess is that 99% of commentors here are males, some of whom are down-on-their luck and have no life outside of the internet. I pity you losers.

gash merchant | 9/15/2007, 5:36 pm EST

Any chance of an invite to your gash FRiDA? I promise that what happens at your gash with me will stay at your gash. Pretty please FRiDA.

FRiDA | 9/15/2007, 5:41 pm EST

I am not going to let you gash sniffers, and gash merchants, and gash gashers, and…and…and…oh bother! You are not going to drive me away…from my own gash…for cryin’ out loud! I will climb the mountain! I will fly like an eagle! I am woman, hear me roar! No credit…gash only from now on!

we have been watching this site from on high atop mount olympus as the gods that we are. no…wait! we have just been informed that we are watching from asgard and not mount olympus and that we are not zeus and hermes but rather, we are odin and thor. sorry ’bout the mixup folks but LSD will do that to you every time. any way, ‘we have been watching this site’. and we want to give our support to a FRiDA knowing that when we come to a town near her she will freely give of her gash to us as a supplicant (i.e., a zep zombie…you know…a fan. For cryin’ out loud we hate when we have to spell things out like this to you mere mortals). We now say this to FRiDA, “When do we get to visit your gash?”

…actually…FRiDA’s gash is torture…REAL torture. I’ve been there and believe me her gash is….brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrr! I’m still in the process of regaining my full sight after that experience.
ps: sorry FRiDA, i know you said what happens at your gash stays at your gash but i just have to get this out [of there].

i give up! i am moving back to my home country of lesbia. a gash is a thing of beauty there. i visited a friends gash there when i was on holiday last month in lesbia and it was SO big that when i said ‘hello’ at the entrance, my hello echoed for over 10 minutes…wow!

imagining such things with the dead…you need to get a real life.

marleys ghost | 9/15/2007, 7:09 pm EST

you are in error oh spirit. you mistake a ‘response’ (and a pretty smart, intelligent, intuitive, humourous, well thought out, etc, one at that) with ‘react’. get your facts right before you post or at least, learn english.
again…’who cares?’

art | 9/15/2007, 7:12 pm EST

i have a real life…and you are confirming it each time you try to respond but fail. oh boy…when will such louts ever learn?

FRiDA | 9/15/2007, 7:16 pm EST

please, just stop trying to defend me spirit. you are embarrasing both of us. i know your game…just like all the rest…trying to get an invite from me to visit my gash. the only spirits i let anywhere near me or my gash ar the likes of creme de menth, pernod, aniset, etc. now then…they are REAL gash crashers…and done need an invite.

pernod | 9/15/2007, 7:19 pm EST

yippee kayaih FRiDA…here i come for another visit to your gash!
Hellooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooo! Wow…its getting bigger each time i visit, are you letting other spirits visit?

I agree Led Zeppelin are among the top 5 bands of all time but their ’sound’ is harder to re-create than the Stones for example. Page’s brilliant record production and Plant’s phenomenal young voice are history. Plant’s solo albums are fantastic but this concert is bound to disappoint.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa h!
if you zep do NOT perform brilliantly you will join me here among the rest of the old has-beens of rock who thought it was ok to rip the fans off for even more money by giving a concert performance with a ‘use by’ due date well past its best. for an example of this just listen to jagger without all the back-up vocalists and digitally enhanced sound systems on stage that make his voice sound as if he just stepped out of a london gig in the sixties….FALSE! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! the only two acts who have ever come close to recreating their best when past their prime are the beatles and dylan. the rest…including solo page and solo plane and page & plant duo and now reformed zep, will soon be joining me and morrison, joplin, hutchison, hendrix et al.. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!! !!!!!

An older Led Zeppelin is still better than anything that’s on the market today . The music stands on it’s own , and even if they have to take the stage in wheel chairs , sing an octave lower and cut the tempos in half , THIS IS THE EVENT of the last 25 or 30 years . The greatest rock band of all time playing the greatest rock songs ever written … sounds like heaven on earth to me .

And that is definitely in no way better than Led Zeppelin, who are understood throughout the universe!

even now you dont get the message Amir Salaam. the reason i was farting all through the show was to send you a message to fuck-off! you were standing in front of 3 babes i wanted to lay after the show. you blocked my view. i thought that by cutting farts all night and getting the roadies to aim the fans so the smell would waft right accross your fucking nose that you would gag and leave. but…you s.o.b., you liked it…you liked it! i saw you sniffing all night and smiling after each sniff. you are a sicko. i thought i had seen it all in rock but you took the biscuit. now, you post this…are you nuts or are you one of those sickos who likes the smell of his own farts?

yeah like, kashmir and you know like, that kind of stuff that zep did is like, that al sabir wanker wrote, sitting near the stage downwind of the the delicate aroma of a plant fart…wow! it reminds me of my many trips to the back streets of the middle east and the back doors of the women and men there. same sweet aroma. and all the while the music is like, just like zep stuff. like the women when they encourage the men to jihad, you know, ‘alalalalalalalalalalalalalala lalalalalalalalalala, ayeeayeeayeeayeeayeeayeeayeeay eeayeeayeeayeeayeeayee’ zep melodies all the way.

Mansour Assad El Sherif | 9/16/2007, 11:38 am EST

I think the recent Britney MTV music awards performance gives us a good preview of what this zep show will be like. Plant will certainly be lip-synching, but is so old he won’t be able to keep up with the sound. These guys are ancient; they belong in nursing homes.

Is there room for both Britney and Milli Villini as opening acts?

The Dude Abides | 9/16/2007, 4:57 pm EST

Are you kidding johnny? You obviosuly have’t seen Robert Plant in concert recently. He still sounds great! He hasn’t lost anything.

Show me the money!!! At least the Stones and the Who came up with new material.

zeprulz | 9/16/2007, 5:14 pm EST

I admire anyone who abides by their “own” rules and speaks on their own behalf. As for Led Zeppelin, I’ll be willing to bet that they will put on a great concert performance, regardless of their age. I saw Page & Plant in the late 90’s, and it was the surprise concert of the year…they exceeded my expectations.

Herb | 9/16/2007, 5:56 pm EST

I don’t care if Plant’s voice isn’t what it used to be. I don’t care if Page doesn’t bring it like he used to. I don’t care if John Bonham is no longer there. I’ve been waiting to see Led Zeppelin for over a quarter of a century.

DADAPHONE | 9/16/2007, 8:06 pm EST

I saw Robert Plant and the Stange Sensation at the Paramount in Oakland and if Led Zep can bring that kind of electricity to a performance they will be doing well. To my ear, there was nothing lacking in Plant’s voice on the classics he performed.

Little Timmy – I’m an “idiot” bacause I happened to know that Jake Holmes wrote “I’m confused” – which later materialized as Zep’s “Dazed and Confused”???

Isn’t it time you got off mommy’s computer now and did your homework? After all, if YOU knew anything about Led Zep (and I know about all there is to know about my fav – and GREATEST – rock band of all time) than YOU could’ve answered that question when it was asked.

Now…go milk your dog, and try passing the 6th grade again.

Me Wise Me | 9/17/2007, 8:39 am EST

To anyone posting the “They’re definitely going to tour in ‘08″ stuff – I and everyone else here would LOVE to believe that – but can you please print your source(s) for this info?

And no…sorry…merely stating you’re a “close, personal friend of JPJ” doesn’t quite cut it.

It’s hard to imagine they WON’T tour, but we’ve been down this road before plenty of times, and I want something substantial to confirm such great news.

Anyone?? Speak up!

Me Wise Me | 9/17/2007, 9:06 am EST

Harper – I think you misunderstood my response regarding your VH example.

I wasn’t trying to “one up” you – I saw that you didn’t include Michael Anthony in the VH song writing credits thing – but my response was based on VH using THEIR OWN writing credit for “You Really Got Me” – which is the song you used as an example – and one that actually belongs to The Kinks (which I’m sure you know).

I only said it was a “bad example” because VH can’t even credit THEIR OWN band members with song writing anymore, let alone crediting a band they “borrowed” an entire song from.
Hell, they never even bothered to credit Michael McDonald for writing most of “I’ll Wait” off of “1984″! Shameful.

In my opinion, that’s as bad (if not worse) as “borrowing” riffs from other musicians.

Alexander | 9/17/2007, 10:27 am EST

saw Robert Plant play in Toronto and that show was absolutly amazing. I love led Zeppelin but i wasn’t expecting much from Plant, him being so old and all. Anyways i can honestly say he and the band put on one of the greatest shows i’ve seen. I don’t know how anyone can doubt they’ll do a whole tour.

Thank God for led Zeppelin!

Roy Harper | 9/17/2007, 11:49 am EST

Not nice at all what VH has done to Anthony, not listing him as a song writer anymore. I just recently heard M.McDonald had a hand in writing “I’ll wait”, didn’t realize that.

I agree too, Zep took those original songs & made them their own, as someone wrote. Dazed & Confused in particular. And, I’m a bit mistaken on “babe I’m going to Leave you”, while they were inspired by Joan Baez’s version, it wasn’t her song either, its listed as traditional, so they just stuck their names on it. “black mtn. side”, that is an instrumental Page copied note for note nearly, surprised he didn’t give credit. That wouldn’t fly today, but again, Zep pumped steriods into these songs, & obviously honed their own song writing skills as well…I’ll simply have to disagree re: the live show though, while it may be enjoyable & not a fall on their face travesty, I just think you’d have to give too much benefit of the doubt. I just watched “when the levee breaks” on AOL, from their R&R Hall of Fame inception, & I don’t see it. Its bland & in my opinion tired, not at all in the same league energy wise from even ‘79, & I expect that. And that’s roughly 10 yrs ago that clip. I’m a huge fan, but I have to cringe watching Page do his moves, like when I see Jagger now. I’m in the minority I think though.

Me Wise Me | 9/17/2007, 11:52 am EST

Grendel said: “Show me the money!!! At least the Stones and the Who came up with new material.”

First of all, for the MILLIONETH time now – it is a BENEFIT concert for an educational fund – so you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Perhaps YOU could BENEFIT from some EDUCATION.

Did you buy the latest Stones and Who albums? If you did, they’re milking YOUR money.
Since neither has put out a good album in years, I would just as soon see them tour without them supporting a new album.
NOBODY out there goes to see those bands based on new releases, so you’re either stoned or stupid.

WHO CARES if Led Zep puts an album out or not? With 20 MILLION trying to get tickets to a 20,000 seat venue just to see them play all their OLD material – I would suggest they hardly need new recordings.

And once again, if you don’t like the idea – DON’T GO TO SEE THEM and DON’T COME HERE with your dimestore comments!

Me Wise Me | 9/17/2007, 12:03 pm EST

Harper, you’re right. That WAS a very watered down version of “When
The Levee Breaks” (one of my all-time Zep favs).

Then again – that was a fairly watered down R&R induction show, too.

If seeing them was based on that particular performance, and the Live Aid debacle – I wouldn’t.
But every band is allowed a bad show now and then. They’ll be just fine.

Roy Harper | 9/17/2007, 12:15 pm EST

of course, one night shouldn’t make or break them as far as opinion is concerned, on a night they probably didn’t reherse much etc, & had to share the stage with others for an Allstar jam(zzz). Levee breaks is one of my favorites too, & they rearranged it, but it would be so hard to recreate the studio verision. (I don’t think they performed that song live in their HeyDay). I am probably harping too much on the energy & age thing. AT Live Aid, they were sloppy, but it was still somewhat youthful. I can bare some sloppy moments, or missed notes if there is steam coming off the stage, as opposed to hitting the notes on guitar, but with no emotion. I’m sure they can conjure up some “mojo”. One last visit to Metastopholis might do the trick.

FuckYou | 9/17/2007, 1:55 pm EST

Although, I do not like Led Zeppelin as much as most of you, I know they are true innovators. But I like AC/DC, VanHalen (not Van Hagar) and (old)Metallica better. And I think we can surely say that VanHalen and Metallica are innovators too.

ken v. | 9/17/2007, 2:00 pm EST

a bigger bang and endless wire were both good lp’s i think…people are so cynical.

Roy Harper | 9/17/2007, 2:20 pm EST

some cynicism, some realism. I think most artists, music or otherwise, their creative peaks are in their 20’s & early 30’s, with exceptions of course. Its when the ideas & energy is all flowing, they aren’t rehashing yet. They are hungry, brash, it is the essense of R&R! I do think Zep would be more creative & push themselves harder in the studio if they were to create new material….if the Stones were a new Band in 1989 on Steel Wheels, would you be a big fan if that was their catelogue, from Steel Wheels on? Singles like “Streets of Love”. (just an example)…a few nuggets in a sea of mediocrity. They are good live if you give a ton of consessions. They are not “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out” down & dirty anymore. Some of that is ok, you mature, but to me, put on a live album of theirs in hte last 10 years(they put one out for each tour…zzz), terribly watered down, Mick mailing it in vocally, even relaxing with some Earl Grey tea while the backup singers sing “hooonkey tonk women” chorus. Its fun to go, big event, but musically spent. I don’t want to see Zeppelin in such a state. I wasn’t impressed by their Clarksville CD(do people like that one?) or concert they played on MTV at that time. Though, live, it might have packed more punch than the TV.

Poor Tom | 9/17/2007, 4:09 pm EST

is Page a Rock n Roll Genius? In the Lennon/McCartney, Hendrix patheon? Great song writing, talented guitarist, mastermind of the Zeppelin aura, great producer. Rock God, indeed. But musical genius?

James Page | 9/17/2007, 11:10 pm EST

…i remember once we were doing a gig for the Queen of England when there was a silent bit in the song (you know, the silent bit in that idiot song stairway to heaven) and the Queen was like, smiling as if she was enjoying it. All of a sudden, Plant cuts a corker, a real rose, a live one, it was sulphur incarnate, rotting eggs, slaughterhouse eleven (you get the picture). Like…’HELLO PLANT!’ And I’m standing downwind of the fucker then it hits me! Tears welled up in my eyes! I felt faint! I even felt touch again in my fingers as they touched the guitar strings (I had’nt felt touch since my last LSD adventure…BONUS). Anyway…it was a CORKER Class ‘A’ fart! That same night Bonham bites the dust and I am sure it was because he was still out of it from the after effects of the fart. Then the base players cops an attitude so I fired the fucker! Then I thought, ‘why am i standing downwind of this smelly self-proclaimed viking wanker…this band is toast’! That was the night I called it quits for Led Zep. One fart too many from Plant. Thats how the west was blown.

I think most people don’t realize led zep’s songs had a very cletic background/blues. I think there the best band ever.Grand was not right to say it would go over like a led ballon. I feel bad about the lives of some of the members famliy. but great never go away. I’ve been a fan sence 1973 and always will. I’ve been to europe and frist hand understand the hell the wars have done. Thats what I feel in SOME of there songs. (9-18-07)irozap66@cs.com please return my note when you can.MAGX

Me Wise Me | 9/18/2007, 10:49 am EST

Heres a Led Zep story for you.
My very best memory of a Led Zep concert was the night I was right at the front of the stage and Plant moves the mike away from his face to cough. Anyway, he coughs and then spits a giant lump of cough shit from his throat and it lands right on my forehead! Wow! How lucky can a guy get? People either side of me start to fight me to get this precious gem on my forehead but a few stitches, punches, kicks, screams later, I scraped it off my forehead and put it in my pocket and took it home. Now each night I look at it, smell it, lick it a little, and remember how much I love Led Zep.
Hey, do any of you have as good a Led Zep story as this?

Roy Harper | 9/18/2007, 10:53 am EST

Out on tiles – face down passed out on the bathroom floor, John Bonham.

Xmas day, ‘68 they were asked to go to the US, the next day they played in Denver, a gig that was supposed to be the Jeff Beck Group, who cancelled….Love the psychedelic Tele. I’ve read that Joe Walsh had given Page his main Les Paul as well.

Joyce Fleming | 9/18/2007, 11:15 am EST

I was at the Page/Plant concert and
it is true that Plant was farting the entire show but the guy probably has stomach problems so it’s nothing to laugh at. He still has the best voice in rock.

Me Wise Me | 9/18/2007, 11:25 am EST

So…Joyce Fleming…you were the one who was at that concert and stealing my thunder! I and I alone am the official sniffer of Plant farts at Plant or Zep concerts! If I ever find you again at any concert and you are copping a sniff at Plants farts I will personally cut a wet fart of my own right on your freakin face! I am the official and long time fart sniffer…not you!

john john | 9/18/2007, 11:27 am EST

At last…interesting postings…keep them coming.

Plant | 9/18/2007, 11:30 am EST

For crying out loud! So what if I do have a flatulance problem, so what? Is it any of your business? Why do you have to write about it in public? Ok, so I cut farts on stage, so what? Ok, so I like the smell of my own, so what? Ok, so I light my farts on fire with a match when I cut them in the bath, so what? Farting is cool!

MAGX | 9/18/2007, 11:40 am EST

I feel bad for Robert Plant that everyone is making fun of his farting. Lets face it, farting is natural. Whats funny about it? I have heard him farting on stage and its no big deal. I listen to the music and let the farts waft over my head while I keep my nose covered with my pantys.

Ian Rhodes | 9/18/2007, 11:50 am EST

Recently saw Plant at a charity event signing a ten foot guitar in London and the bloke was letting a large number of farts rip. He obviously cannot help himself so why make such a big thing about it?

Max Wise | 9/18/2007, 12:10 pm EST

How stupid to come here and spout all that crap. Get off mom’s computer already – it’s nap time.

This just in: LED ZEPPELIN RULES THE ROCK-n-ROLL WORLD!!!

Tour coming next!

Eddie Van Halen | 9/18/2007, 12:53 pm EST

Hey – plain and simple – if LED ZEP is playing on the same night we are, then Wolfie is going to have to learn the guitar real damn fast!

I’ll be at the LED ZEP show, watching the masters.

Now….where did I leave that Heineken??? Damn it, Dave!

Ronnie Van Zant | 9/18/2007, 12:57 pm EST

Shoot! You’d have to be a one legged dog trying to take a piss on a frozen pond not to know what LED ZEPPELIN has done for the music world. Damn straight!

If I hadn’t died in that plane crash, me and Lynyrd Skynyrd could’ve opened a show for them sometime. Whiskey for everyone – and man! – can that Jimmy Page drink the Jack…woooo-weeeee!

Dan McFarland | 9/18/2007, 1:01 pm EST

What I wanna know is, who’ll be seated on the drum throne? That’s my only question…Dave Grohl could fit the bill, I mean the guy’s a fan and knows the entire Zep catalog by heart!

All The Wiser | 9/18/2007, 1:11 pm EST

Dan, it’s going to be Jason Bonham on skins.

No offense to Dave Grohl, but having Jason on drums makes it as close to the original as you’ll get.

Eddie Van Halen | 9/18/2007, 1:15 pm EST

If LED ZEP plays on the same night we do, then David Lee is going to have to learn the guitar awfully fast!

I’LL be at the Zep show.

Now…where did I leave that Heineken??
Damn it, Wolfie – you’re too young still!!!!

Jason Bonham is a pretty good drummer, too. May as well keep it in the family!

LED ZEP! LED ZEP! LED ZEP! LED ZEP!

Diamond Dave | 9/18/2007, 2:15 pm EST

Folks, if Led Zeppelin is playing on the night we are, then Eddie Van Heineken is on his own, I’m grabbin’ my gal, shining up my Keith Richard’s merit badge & headin’ down, listenin’ to the same tunes I’ve been hearing pumped out of a Chevy truck in the Burger King parking lot the last 35 summers. These songs are more familiar than the roof of my mouth. These songs are parts & parcel of why i got into show business to begin with, reminds me when I saw them with Alex in Milwaukee, me & Alex grabbed some of Milwaukee’s finest, & I aint talkin’ bout no damn beer. I’ll jump into my jeans, get my gal to suck the air out of the bottom of my designer jeans, grab some dime store weed & head to the show. Meet me in the parking lot, this is the makings of one large barbeque if you get what I’m saying. Watercooler material here, Led Zeppelin, a bunch of syllabols, it swings, like Santana. I’m more hopped up than a 10 year old on sugar cereal breakfast & cinnamon toast….Sammy who?

Red Rocker | 9/18/2007, 3:23 pm EST

Shit, I was watching LED ZEP live while Diamond Dave was still watching Sesame Street!
I learned almost as much from Robert Plant as Dave has learned from me.

They just don’t make ‘em any better than Led Zeppelin. I can remember opening for them back when I played with Montrose – man! – what a great show!
Even though I’ve played with Eddie, I’d give my entire stock of Cabo Wabo Tequila to share a stage with Jimmy Page!

Now if you’ll excuse me…I have to go sell a dime bag of bunk weed to Diamond Dave – the world’s greatest paramedic!

Gary Cherone | 9/18/2007, 3:29 pm EST

I never got to see Led Zep, and I bombed in Van Halen. I couldn’t shine Dave’s OR Sammy’s shoes.

I guess I’ll just forever be known as the singer of that all-time WUSS song, “More Than Words” in that all-time WUSS band Extreme.

I wonder if Led Zep needs another roadie? If so, I GOT A JOB!!!

Diamond Dave | 9/18/2007, 3:48 pm EST

WaaaOWAh!!…Bunk Weed, like a bad comedian, I forgot my own lines man. Thanks Sam. Remember, I’d never open for you. You’re lyrics read like a Hallmark card man. Glen Cheroney, Sam, they are singers in Van Halen, but I’m THE singer. Those songs I sang on are more familiar than the Nike Swoosh. Think I’ll ease the seat back, go post on the VH blog now, its got more rhythm man, put my Van Halen LPs next to those Led Zep Record albums, & they’ll melt baby. You can feel the heat off those grooves. What do you think of that, talk to me! those songs belong in the meat packing district, bozzy bozzy bop! love those lines up the back of the Stockings, to this day.

Diamond Dave | 9/18/2007, 4:30 pm EST

Man, this has been colorful out here today! yeah. Sam, Gary, come see how its done, take notes, no hard feelings, I’m a singer by trade, its how I put food on the plate. Happy Hour, have a few libations, put my back against the record machine, if I may quote myself, throw on music from ABBA to ZZ Top, a little KD Lang thrown in between, marinate it with Jack Daniels, grab the gal that catches your fancy, & come out & see us when we come to one of the biggest 23 hamlets in the US. Leave the heavy lifting to me. I wouldn’t wish listen to the Cheroney Van Halen years on a canine. We’re back friends. Same tunes you’ve heard on a Saturday afternoon at your local Motorola, only coming at you threw stacks of Marshalls. This is more evasive than any download or pickpocket. Off to grab that little redhead gal I saw at lunch today.

Red Rocker | 9/18/2007, 4:52 pm EST

Dave was great in STARTER Van Halen, but it took a man like me – the Red Rocker – to provide Van Halen with all of their biggest hits.

While Dave was busy flopping at acting, flopping as a DJ, and flopping as a paramedic – I was taking the band to new, unchartered heights.

So now that they’ve gotten the first guy back, I say “Come On Dave, Finish What ‘Ya Started”. After all, it only took you 20+ years to wake-up and come to your senses.

I have to wonder though…does smoking bunk weed make one lose their hair? Because I have more hair on my skull at 60 than Dave has at 50!

You’ll never see Sam sporting a pseudo-Sting haircut, that’s fo’ sho’!

CABO WABO, baby!
And….I’ll be keeping the bass player with me.

Red Rocker | 9/18/2007, 4:55 pm EST

Now do the right thing, Diamond Dave….take a seat with me and let’s allow this most awesome LED ZEPPELIN moment to be enjoyed to the fullest. It’s their show.

Don’t worry. I’LL bring the weed this time.

Diamond Dave | 9/18/2007, 11:38 pm EST

What…you’ll bring the ‘weed’ Red Rocker? You ARE a fucking weed!

Gary Cherone | 9/19/2007, 12:33 am EST

actually, instead of me applying for a job with zep as a roadie, i am just going to apply for a position i am uniquely qualified for, a ‘road apple’.

mcstansical | 9/19/2007, 11:05 am EST

The Stones and Beatles are the greatest of all-time. Led Zeppelin was tremendous though. Hope they do a full blown US Tour.

Red Rocker | 9/19/2007, 11:06 am EST

what the heck are you going on about Diamond Dave by calling me a weed? I tell you what…it is YOU who are a weed!!! Just because I post here because I have no life does not give you or anyone the right to call me a weed. When I wrote about bringing weed I was only trying to be big, important…you know. So what if i dont have a life…why do you call me a weed?

other WISE | 9/19/2007, 11:08 am EST

If you go to some of these ticket broker websites, they actually advertise LED ZEP tickets.

The one I just visited said,
“when tour dates are announced, get your tickets here”.

Do they know something we don’t yet?? It is reasonable to expect them to tour, so I hope to hear some info on that soon.

ZEPPELIN FLIES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

mcstansical | 9/19/2007, 11:08 am EST

I forgot to add that Hermans Hermits are my favourite band but I doubt they will ever tour again…pity. I mean, just compare the vocals of Peter Noone to Robert Plant…no friggin contest! Noone beats the pants off Plant every single time!

mcstansical | 9/19/2007, 11:11 am EST

That’s a good one. However, you forgot to add The Alex Harvey Band. Look that one up on Google !! 1973 LIVES FOREVER.

Sometimes while growing-up, I dreamed of Peter Noone naked.

wayward son | 9/19/2007, 11:48 am EST

Good – thank you RS.

I don’t want to read all this stupid BS anyway, and as far as David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar is concerned – YOU BOTH SUCK when compared to Robert plant.

can’t wait to see this happen. I’ve been hoping for this moment for a looooooong time!

j | 9/19/2007, 12:06 pm EST

A Led Zep reunion with Jason Bonham replacing his dad is a fantastic idea! It could only be topped by a Beatles reunion including Julian Lennon and Dahni Harrison…

j | 9/19/2007, 12:54 pm EST

LED ZEPPELIN is great, but I’m a big Julian Lennon fan. I love Yoko Ono, too – she’s hot! Even though most think she looks like a cabbage patch kid.

Sometimes, when I’m alone, I listen to Julian Lennon and ABBA. Makes me feel more feminine, and I can really get in touch with my inner-woman.

wayward son | 9/19/2007, 1:03 pm EST

So 20 million people tried to get tix to a 20,000 seat concert? WOW!

Safe to say, Led Zeppelin has only GROWN in popularity since their heyday! Shit, I’m not sure if they had 20 million fans back in the 70’s!!

Great to see, and I’m glad that some of these bands from yesteryear are resurfacing. Especially with all the CRAP out right now pretending to be music.

theodds | 9/19/2007, 2:44 pm EST

I read closer to 30 million. But who’s counting. The site crashed.

jimmy p | 9/19/2007, 4:53 pm EST

Hey j, glad to hear that someone loves Yoko Ono as much as we in Zep do. We’d love to invite her to tour with us, but we’re afraid of being upstaged.

miccc | 9/19/2007, 5:33 pm EST

Actually, in a 24 hour period alone, the site received 120 million hits, with 25 million getting through to register. That was just the first day. They were still getting well over 60,000 hits a minute 2 days later, so it’s safe to say that the demand for even 3/4 of Zeppelin is unprecedented in rock history. No entertainment act in the world could remotely approach these numbers. Gratifying to see that the greatest rock band in history is still unmistakably the most popular band in the world.

theodds | 9/19/2007, 5:52 pm EST

Technically, number of hits are not the same as number of visits. One visitor can hit a web site an endless number of times. Good luck though to those who managed to register.

r. plant | 9/19/2007, 10:31 pm EST

wayward son | 9/19/2007, 10:37 pm EST

what are the odds that someone would post on this site with a name called theodds about the odds on responding to a wanker posting with a wanker name called wayward son? the odds must be high that theodds tried to be odds on about whether theodds was going for or against the odds that wayward son had a life or played the odds against it. eh? what are the odds on that?

miccc | 9/19/2007, 10:40 pm EST

the odds are not that high about theodds would do such a thing. lets face it, theodds has no life and exists only to surf sites like this to give theodds life any semblence of meaning.

j | 9/19/2007, 10:42 pm EST

it was not the site that crashed it was any sense of self-respect thodds had left by posting such a post. lets face it, theodds is a loser with a meaningless life.

I am still really pissed of at Diamond Dave! What are the odds on that?

Anonymous | 9/20/2007, 12:49 pm EST

ok, I gotta say this, cause I`m tired of people bashing the band. led zeppelin DID “borrow” some songs from some artists, but have you actually listened to the original songs?, some people like atack the band by saying they stole the song, but if you listen carefully you would find out, is that in most they only lifted part of the lyrics of the songs, like with whole lotta love, people listen that they were sued, and instantly think that they stole the whole song(The original is called YUO NEED LOVE written by willie dixon, if you want to listen to it to compare them go to http://www.goear.com/list en.ph p?v=0208835) , but the riff was 100% original, and that riff was the one that made the song great, same thing happens with IN MY TIME OF DYING,

theodds | 9/20/2007, 8:13 pm EST

ok…i think this zep site is toast. everything that can or should be said about zep getting it together again has been said. i for one am going back to listening to the greatest vocalist of all time…Peter Noone. He is also a great songwrite. I mean, just read something from the best lyric of all time, “‘oim ‘enery the 8th ‘oi am ‘oi am,,,’oim ‘enery the 8th ‘oi am,,,’oi been married 7 toimes before,,,and everyone was an ‘enery,,,etc” Need I write more? Just try…try…and compare this quality lyric with e.g., that idiot song called the immigrant song…eh? No comparison.

theodds | 9/20/2007, 10:44 pm EST

keeper | 9/24/2007, 11:31 am EST

This is a one shot fund raiser. It is not a reunion. For one thing, Plant is too self absorbed by his solo work to ever consider doing a quality Zep reunion tour. This is ONE show to put charity funds into Plant’s favorite schools and such. The fans are the fools for thinking anything outside of this box. Jones was said to be the one holding out this time. Can you blame him? When Plant finally gives his ok on a one off fund raiser for his own interests (and Ahmets’s) but in actuality he can’t wait to get on tour singing a bunch of “crossover” semi country semi whatever songs that Zep fans have no interest in. Or even Plant fans, for that matter. But, hey, that’s the way it is. A true Zep tour would take a lot of work. The current Genesis tour boasts of three hour long shows. Could you imagine Plant doing three hour fun fest shows? No way. The really fun days of a Zep show have been over since 1978.

rosie o'donnell | 9/24/2007, 10:09 pm EST

that last posting by keeper is a keeper.

You know, I just heard of this concert reunion thing today, 9/27, and I can’t tell you the excitement that I feel. How cool is this?
In trying to be better informed, I went to Rolling Stone for more information, only to find a bunch of malt-worm half-wits spouting garbage. Who cares what Robert Plant looks like at 60? Can he still sing? Absolutely. I saw him two years ago, and he was amazing. Finally, for the harpies who say the fans are being mistreated–you’re not a fan. You’re a bunch of hasty-witted louts. Any sane person with half of a musical bone in their body is excited beyond anything that has happened in music for three decades. The one-night-only show is for a fantastic cause, and the excitement for more shows is nirvana.

Plant says: "NO TOUR" | 9/28/2007, 9:57 am EST

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and I was one that was really looking forward to a Led Zep tour, but it ain’t happening.

Robert Plant has issued the following statement 2 hours ago, found on the NME site:
———————– —–
“Led Zeppelin reunion: ‘We won’t tour’

Robert Plant quashes rumour of a full UK tour

Robert Plant, frontman of the newly reformed Led Zeppelin, has quashed rumours that the band are set for a full UK tour.

So far the band have announced a single reunion show at the O2 Arena in London on November 26.

Speaking to The Daily Express, he explained that there would only be one show, then added: “We need to do one last great show, because we’ve done some shows, and they’ve been crap.”

Plant went on to explain that he was considering stepping away from live music completely after the November show.

“I know I’m getting on,” he said. “When I come back from touring I’m shocked to find a lot of my mates tend to be going to bed far too early, and that means I should probably be doing the same. Maybe I should stop having a good time and get old.”
———————– ———

Sorry, guys.
Unless you live in the UK – you ain’t gonna see them play.

With 80,000 hits PER MINUTE trying to get tickets, I am baffled as to why they wouldn’t play the states.

Oh well.
Another Zep tour rumor put to death. Sigh.

GO VAN HALEN !!!!

Ummmm….well…..unless you’re going to call Robert Plant a liar….I guess all we have to go on is the lead singer of the band saying “NO GO” to a tour.

Anything beyond that WOULD be a surprise.

your posting is beyond reason, im smart. in answer to your doubts and obviously untrusting…suspicious…natu re, im smart (’im smart’…an oxymoron of a name if ever there was one based entirely on your posting), “one must never doubt the power and influence of the kwisatz haderach” that you have done so is testiment to you having a lack of confidence in the universal order of things. why…i remember only recently as i stood watching both a zep concert in 1971 and simultaneously in 2008 (i can you know) and thinking, “why is it that plant cuts so many farts on stage?” the answer to which is simple (for me i.e., but not for the likes of you im smart), it is this, “because he can, you know.” STOP your doubting and join my followers and never doubt again!

Plant says: "NO TOUR" | 9/29/2007, 1:32 pm EST

I APOLOGIZE!!!
i only posted the plany announcement that zep is’nt going to tour just to screw with your heads. I AM SORRY!!!
i am the gardener that takes care of plants plants an plants country cottage on plants estate in plants home country of england. i am a plant there for NME to plant more than plants but to also listen to plant talking when plant visits the garden to plant his plants that he has a preference for. anyway, plant was talking to plants friends while plant was planting plants and i heard him say, “No way!” he was referring to a weed in his garden and not the zep tour but i added the rest then posted here. SORRY!

dear zep | 9/29/2007, 8:12 pm EST

dear zep,
like the beatles the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. yes, unlike the beatles whereby john and paul carried 70% of the show, george carried 20%, and ringo carried 10%, each of the overall whole i.e., while in zep bob and jimbo carried 80% plus, still, coming back as zep without the drummer as catalyst and the bassist now with a different attitude (he thinks he was worth more than the history books show), this reunion is like comparing road apples to apples. IT ‘AINT THE SAME ZEP! And i’m not talking about age here…great bands get better with age as is evidenced by the many still out there pulling in more bucks per year…and then some…than the rest of the new bands combined. and, the old bands were WAY more creative in their songs (zep plagarism taken into the equation) than any of the new shit out there for the past 20 years.
so…dear zep (i.e., whats left of you)…DONT COME BACK!

hey whats the big debate about tours? i look foward to seeing a zeppelin show but lets just wait. WE don’t know whats gonna happen! i think a lot of people have doubt about plant and the tours.

AJ | 10/6/2007, 10:14 pm EST

Their live performances have always been ‘hit or miss’. I think that Plant is playing it safe until after the show. If it goes well (and I believe that it will), then they will most likely go on a limited tour, just as Cream did in ‘05.

JA | 10/8/2007, 9:46 pm EST

AJ…are you saying that Led Zep will ‘cream’ themselves on stage? Like wow dude! regardless of whether its 05, 07, or 08 there is NO place on any music stage or rock tour for the band to cream themselves on stage…no way! i’m as big a zep fan as anyone but i gotta say AJ, your posting is off base…WAY off base dude! i dont condone you condoning a band…even zep…to cream off on stage!

I am 45 years old and love Zep, and all you ASS wipes that are so ignorant to understand that it doesnt matter if its not the same show as back in the 70’s. IT’s Led Zeppelin for God sake!! We all get old. But I would blessed to see them come to the states !!!

Johnny B Goode | 10/26/2007, 7:28 pm EST

Jason Bonham seems like a good choice for drummer, and the show’ll be great, if I know anything about Led Zeppelin. I’m not just saying Jason’s a good choice because he’s Bonzo’s son, I saw his drumming and it’s pretty heavy.

Larflene | 10/29/2007, 8:36 pm EST

what i dont get is why people who dont like zep actually take time to read about the whole reunion thing, and then bash the band/fans on a web site! if you dont like the band keep it to yourself and dont go shoving it around and being immature! just grow up already. ASS! i would LOVE to see a reunion tour, and most people who read about all this do too. so if you dont like that, 1. dont read about it 2. dont put other people down because they’re excited about it.

Why a “one-time” show in London only? Why not a “one-time world tour” so that all of their fans who never had a chance to see them in concert could get to see this great band at least once? They would surely sell out every single arena. I’m 42, and my husband, 43, and this is the one band we regret never having had a chance to see live!

Doug & Jane from Cincy, Ohio | 11/4/2007, 10:24 am EST

Was I so lucky, Their concert, 1971 in Seattle, WA..
Again in 1995 at the Gorge in George, Washington. Thanks Jimmy, Robert. Kashmir; 12:00 am in the Desert above the Columbia River. Beautiful.

ROGER CLEAVES | 11/6/2007, 12:14 am EST

I missed out in seeing Zep in there last tour. You had to mail for your tickets due to great demand. My freinds and I stayed up that night tickets went on for sale waiting to 4;00 am for the detroit freepress for the order form . We went straight to the post office and were certain we would have tickets.unfortunatly when we woke up later that day it was all oer the radio John died. We were lost. His son is the best one to take his place. And so what if there older they are still zepplin. My point if I had the chance I would take my 14 year old son who is a big fan to this concert.

HUGEzeppfan | 11/12/2007, 8:49 pm EST

i am 13 years old, i started listening to zepp about 4 years ago and loved them from the start. to me, led zeppelin is like a sports players favorite team, a politicians favorite candidate, a nerds favorite subject, a roller coaster fanatics favorite park, a music fan (but not as big as me) favorite band, a pimps favorite employee etc. combined! i f***in love them! jimmy page is the greatest guitarist ever, john bonham is the greatest drummer ever, robert plant is the greatest singer ever, and jpj is the greatest multi instrumentalist ever = supergroup…

Why Jason Bohnam? | 11/15/2007, 10:29 pm EST

I’d like to heard this show…but honestly. Why Jason Bohnam? I’m sure he is a nice guy and all…but he isn’t on any of the albums I have…and well, he’s no where close to playing like his dad. Have you heard the band ‘Bohnam’? It’s really funny. I just don’t see him as being the next best thing to the original lineup.

Mark Hackney in Seattle, WA US | 11/17/2007, 1:08 am EST

I’m very excited about this tour even though I have no chance of attending. I was hooked on Zep the moment I heard them as a teenager. They were one of a handful of artists who inspired me to become a guitarist. Unfortunately, I never got to see them live.

I’m 45 now and have 2-teenagers and an 11-year old. Much to my surprise, my 17 & 11-year old are BIG Zeppelin fans. Apparently, A LOT of their friends are too.

So, even though I can’t afford to go to England to see Led Zeppelin, I’m very excited! I’m excited because music that was and is important to me is also important to my kids and that’s cool! Zeppelin was relevant then, their relevant now and they’ll be relevant 200 years from now. That makes me feel good.

I quite playing in bands several years ago but the guys from Zeppelin are still at it. In fact, many of the greats from the past are still at it. So while they’re a little older than they were in 1968-80, they’re still passionate and young at heart and that’s what rock & roll (and I think life) is all about! So YEAH for Zeppelin and YEAH for everyone who gets to see them! I’m very excited!

Mark Hackney in Seattle, WA US | 11/17/2007, 1:20 am EST

Ooops, I used “their” instead of “they’re” (damn spell check) Oh well, close enough for rock & roll :~)

Evan Ogden | 11/20/2007, 4:46 pm EST

Led Zep was the soundtrack of choice to my and many of my friends lives during high School in the mid to late seventies.
I played in a band who covered many Zep songs (that we could technically handle) but we could never reproduce the Hammer Of The Gods!
Saw Zep at the ill-fated Kingdome in Seattle in ‘76. It was a disappointing echo-plex of midrange mush. Really was a misrepresentation of what that band could produce in a more acoustically friendly environment.
First heard LZ on an AM radio station in ‘68, I thought Plant was some large black woman with a huge set of pipes…I was 8 years old and had never seen nor heard of the band before!
As a drummer I still feel Bonzo had the most impact on rock drumming of anyone. I LOVE the bass drum sound on “When the levee breaks” I still play a Ludwig snare because it reminds me of Bonhams’ “bark”.
Give Jason a chance… Its in his blood.
These guys must tour beyond London next year!

Robert Let It Out | 11/21/2007, 12:07 pm EST

On his official ws rp says that there is a good chance that there will be a full scale lz world tour “if things work out properly…”

Colchar | 11/23/2007, 1:38 pm EST

To the person who mentioned that RP said on his official website that he would do a tour if everything worked out properly, can you provide a link to that? I checked his site and couldn’t find that comment.

And to the person questioning why Jason on drums…why do you think?!? He is a great drummer and there is no other drummer in the world who has the right to take JB’s place – except his son. If JB were alive today and were simply incapacitated and unable to play you can bet every dollar you’ve ever earned that he would say he would be honoured to have his son take his place. And the other members of Zeppeling know this and understand that the only person who could drum for them now is Jason – and now that he is clean and sober he’ll be amazing.

Colchar | 11/23/2007, 1:43 pm EST

test your Zep knowledge.
- who suggested the band’s name?
Keith Moon (although Entwhistle claims it was him).

- what name did the band use on their first few shows?
The New Yardbirds

-what was the band that both Plant & Bonham were in before Zep?
Band of Joy

-What was the first US city they played?
Boston

-The title “out on the tiles” refers to what? Who came up with the title?
Going out drinking with the lads and Bonham came up with it (in his recent supergroup reality show thing Jason talked about how his dad came up with it…he walked into the studio one day humming the song and the band loved it so they wrote it).

-What was Page’s Main guitar on Zeppelin I?
Telecaster

- the song “Boogie with Stu”, who is Stu?
Ian Stewart

-Arena Song Remains the Same concert was filmed?
Madison Square Garden, 1973.

EDDIE WRETCH | 11/25/2007, 8:11 pm EST

I’m sorry to single you out, Mr. Mark Hackney. There are many people on the internet who make the same mistakes that you have.
I am posting this to say that I am happy to read that your boys are into Rock N Roll music, but please stress the importance of a strong education, particularly paying close attention in English class. There are mistakes you can make that spell check will not catch, such as your errors. You quit playing in bands (you spelled it as “q-u-i-t-E”) and “…they’re still relevant” (not “their”, as you wrote). These are common mistakes, but we need to take responsibilty for our use (or in this case, misuse) of the English langusage.

enserink | 11/30/2007, 12:15 am EST

im 15 years old, and I believe that Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time.

I wasn’t around when all the good artists were young and touring plenty, so seeing a Led Zeppelin concert is one of my biggest dreams… it would be amazing if they came to Canada.

peter grant | 11/30/2007, 12:34 pm EST

Only at the weekend i was talking to mrsrs Page and plant and both of them confirmed to me that there would be a tour taking place ,however the catch was they wanted me to manage there affairs again which for some reason or another i am not able to do ,

gollum the evil one | 12/3/2007, 2:32 pm EST

I loved Zep since 1969. They are the most creative studio bands ever.
Stairway is the best rock song ever composed.
I have seen them live a number of times and each time Page was less than he should be.
Missed notes and off key.
I blamed it on the heroin and booze.
Recently seen Page and Plant a few years back and the sound was so muddy and sustained and that Page’s leads could not be heard.
He was not bad with the Black Crows but then there were 2 other guitarists.
I understand that he can not play all the parts himself so the sound is empty at times but I have heard high school bands do the songs better.
I hope this time they rehearse and play better and make a video for all of us to enjoy.

Mike | 12/7/2007, 7:00 pm EST

This is in response to peter grants post below.
Come on Peter Grant, what could possibly be more important than managing the affairs of Plant and Page so that the world can see them one more time as Led Zeppelin? Could it be a little thing like, oh…I don’t know…maybe because you died in 1995. Seems to me that your calendar should be pretty much empty unless it takes all your time and energy to push up daisies.

Sara | 12/8/2007, 6:51 pm EST

To Jerry, I can tell you that Krokus is still touring. I saw them last year at Sweden Rock festival and they were awesome!

Leapy | 12/9/2007, 1:46 am EST

When I heard on a conservative radio station in Australia reserved for politics that Led Zeppelin was reforming I knew some sense had finally come to the world. We over the other side of the planet were blessed to have the band here in the 70s then Page and Plant in the 90s, But are they coming to Australia in the naughties?? A decade truly made for Zep!!! If the powers that be read this BRING LED ZEPPELIN DOWN UNDER. A whole lotta girls have been waitin a long time. Mmmwaaaah from Aust

5th element | 12/10/2007, 12:24 am EST

Zep truly epitomized the saying that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Ego didn’t produce rifts in the band. They were like family to each other, the guys got along and genuinely liked each other. All that comes out in their music (and the recorded talk among them at the finish of some of the songs). I truly was heartbroke when Bonzo died, just weeks before I was to see Zep in Chicago in 1980. I’d seen them in Chicago and Indy on their ‘77 tour. “Kashmir” just blew me and the other 20,000 fans away like no other single moment of any concert I’ve ever been too. That April 6th , 1977 Chicago Stadium evening with my Zep buds during college years will for me stand out forever.

If the Zep brand is able return to the stage without scrutiny it is not without risk.

Page and Plant will have to match the intensity and genius of TOWNSHEND AND DALTREY who still rock the planet.

I don’t see why people don’t like Jason Bonham. He’s a great guy and really, who would have better experiance then his own son? I think it’s a great chose of a drummer. I’m sure he will continue to be as good as he is.

Rabid | 12/11/2007, 11:06 pm EST

Zeppelin will tour if the chemistry is there… if the passion to create is overwhelming and they simple have no choice but to play because they simply cannot deny it to themselves. I hope that this is the case and get to witness it. I have been a fan since ‘69 when at the age of six I heard You Shook Me on my Dad’s car radio that my brother and I would mess with and vividly remember commenting that the guitar and singer were talking to each other… may you keep talking that talk oh’ MIGHTY ZEPPELIN.

Rabid | 12/11/2007, 11:25 pm EST

Has anybody here seen Jason Bonham live? I had been living in Dallas, TX. from ‘95 thru 2000. My roommate and I were looking for trouble in Deep Ellum… nothing was happening. We made our way to the only club in Dallas that had cover bands, a place called Rock City, we paid our 5 bucks to enter expecting the same old crap from some crappy band. We saddled up the the bar, ordered a shot and a beer, band was just getting on stage and start off with Rock-N-Roll, cool but not a huge deal, we quickly realize that this band is dead nuts on zeppelin and thats all they are playing. I’m a drummer and thinking to myself this guy has Bonham perfected. It’s not long that the singer announces that they are the Jason Bonham Band, unannounced and playing for a mere 60 people. I have been playing drums and guitar actively for 32 yrs. Zeppelin and Hendrix are why and I will bet that not many would have known the difference on 12/10/07. I didn’t in ‘96.

led zeppelin is one of the best bands to ever live. there music will live on forever and ever. Jimmy Page has proved that he is one of the best guitor player of all time aslo John Bottom is one of the best drummers to play back in the day. They will allways be around.
