Welcome to Rock Daily’s column tracking rock on the big screen. Stay tuned so you don’t miss the next Walk the Line, The Doors or, yes, Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
- Method Man has signed on to star in Hunting and Fishing, a parody of epic drama 300. Produced by Jason Friedberg and Alan Seltzer, the guys who brought us Date Movie and Epic Movie, the Wu-Tang MC will play a Persian emissary. Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo, will also be featured, and rumor has it that a Kevin Federline look-alike will make an appearance as well.
- Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen is scoring the soundtrack for the horror movie Wicked Lane, due out next year. Jourgensen said he was drawn to the film by its indie director, Zach Passero. “We both have the same twisted penchant for dark humor, so it’s a match made in Horror Hell — it’s gonna be sick, heavy and gruesome.” This is not Jourgensen’s first foray into the movie biz, he appeared as a “musician” in the film A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, and has had a number of songs appear in other films, including the documentary Murderball.
- American Idol-losing, Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson is joining the cast of the much anticipated and most likely overrated Sex and the City movie. Hudson, whose debut album is set to be released in the beginning of next year, will play Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant.
- Norwegian singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche has scored Steve Carrell’s new dramedy Dan in Real Life, which comes out in October. Directed by Peter Hedges, and co-starring Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook, the film uses all original music recorded by Lerche, including his own version of Pete Townshend’s “Let My Love Open the Door” arranged for string quartet and acoustic guitar. To read more details than you could ever need about the soundtrack, which comes out next month, check out Lerche’s blog.
