Led Zeppelin Book Press Conference, “Dick in a Box” Wins an Emmy, Gwen Stefani Says No Doubt May Return to Their Ska Roots

9/10/07, 9:36 am EST

  • Led Zeppelin has scheduled a press conference for this Wednesday in London, Billboard reports, fueling speculation that the band is preparing a reunion announcement. Early last week hysteria over an alleged Zeppelin show advertisement in London led to reports that the group had placed the 02 arena on hold for a night. Though Robert Plant previously laughed off reunion rumors, the band has yet to issue a comment about the latest developments.
  • Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s SNL skit-song “Dick in a Box” won an Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. American Idol also nabbed its first-ever Emmy for its charity special “Idol Gives Back.” The primetime awards (which may be “Dick”-free) air next week.
  • A cut from Hanson’s latest album became the most requested song on Chicago’s alternative radio station Q101 after DJs played “The Great Divide” for three weeks without disclosing its artist. After it was revealed, the track saw a 95 percent increase in digital downloads.
  • Gwen Stefani is hinting that No Doubt could return to its roots and make a ska record when they re-enter the studio together this fall. Stefani also indicated she is “coming to the end of my own chapter” with her dance records.
  • Starz Cinema will premiere Too Tough to Die: A Tribute to Johnny Ramone on September 15th, the third anniversary of the Ramones guitarist’s death.

Wow, wouldn’t have thought “Dick in a Box” would be Emmy material.

hmmm jeez, maybe the people who “matter” don’t listen to ska anymore but I do and I can tell you from my recent experiences at various clubs on the Northeast coast that many other people do as well.

Actually, I listen to a lot more reggae than ska but we all know ska is simply fast reggae. Songs like Toots & The Maytals “Pressure Drop” are ska at it’s best and if people ain’t listening to “Pressure Drop” anymore they sure as hell should be!

end rant

two things:
1. you hinted the the grammy’s “may” be dick-free during the performance. there is no “may” to it. the only time you’ll head dick on the emmy’s is if mr. clark is receiving some sort of lifetime achievement award

2. no one listens to ska anymore. the new no doubt album will certainly be poppy and full of electro synth-iness. these people care way too much about selling albums than making good albums.

i didnt proof read this so if anyone here finds any spelling/grammar errors feel free to suck my balls.

For the best book on the Ramones read,
“On The Road With The Ramones”
http://www.myspace.c om/ontheroadwiththeramones

This is a MUST-HAVE book for all Ramones fans. It’s an inside look from the people who were actually there witnessing and experiencing all the extreme highs and lows of one of rock’s greatest bands. The Ramones’ music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days at CBGB’s in the ’70s to their farewell gigs in 1996. Filled with memorabilia including photographs and interviews collected along the way, this is his view of life on the road with the band as “baby-sitter to psychiatrist, booking agent to travel agent, paymaster to van driver.” It’s such a fascinating read, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Buy it, read it, and then revisit their albums. You’ll never look at the Ramones in the same light.

Robert Plant is getting older… I think it would be fun for old-times sake if they have a reunion tour next year…. It’ll top AC/DC! and I’ll go to both!!!

Oh man, I saw an unheard of ‘No Doubt’ back in ‘91 at some dump in downtown L.A. (Variety Arts Center I believe) and was blown away by the power, fun and energy they displayed. It was one of my all time great concerts, a landmark day for L.A. ska.

I don’t know if they can ever recapture that certain something they had back then but I look forward to them trying.

Johnny Ramone…..miss ya’ dude!
