Rock Daily is gearing up for Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards (check back this weekend for exclusive coverage straight from Las Vegas, including a live blog, photos and more). But we’re interested in celebrating clips that push buttons and boundaries, rather than just this year’s nominees. So we dedicate this weekend’s rock list to the most outrageous music videos in history. We’ve pulled together five suggestions from Madonna to Marilyn Manson to get you going, so go check out the full videos for our first round of nominees here, then leave your suggestions in the comments below here. We’ll be back with a full video gallery of censor-bugging clips on Monday.

Well if you’re really looking for outrageous, check out It’s a Hard Life by Queen. Amazingly, Freddie Mercury looks like Amy Winehouse… in a multi-eyed surrealist jumpsuit… in a 18th century Salon. Either that or I Want to Break Free.

Good job RS.
But if you want truly outrageous, you have to look beyond the professional videos and go to the bizarre realm of amateur music video.
Not for the intolerant:

leo3375 | 9/7/2007, 7:12 pm EST
How could I have forgotten Aphex Twin’s “Come To Daddy?” That video scared the shit out of me when it first debuted and it still scares the shit out of me!
dan | 9/7/2007, 7:27 pm EST
the most controversial and outrageous would have to be jay-z’s “99 problems.” but the most intense video is metallica’s “st. anger.”

LIKE A VIRGIN
by GOD.
I mean MADONNA
DAVID | 9/7/2007, 10:15 pm EST
hey, i have a question…is it outragious as in shocking ie. videos that were cencored or MTV and caused controvery, or Outragiouse as in Simply Really Good and outragious, because some1 said beck: Loser and Daft Punk: Around the world which sounds like the second. can some1 please clear this up, as I thought it was the first definition.
Stewie | 9/7/2007, 10:25 pm EST
Loser – Beck.
riley | 9/7/2007, 10:55 pm EST

bob in phoenix | 9/7/2007, 11:49 pm EST
‘heart shaped glasses’ is a work of art, as are ‘justify my love’ and ‘closer’, but i only ever remember thinking ‘oh shit’ over and over while i watched ’smack my bitch up’ for the first time.
Mr_Vorhias | 9/8/2007, 12:13 am EST
“Epic” by Faith No More: The best Non-Controversial Controversial video.
ChiliPepper | 9/8/2007, 12:25 am EST
“Smack My Bitch Up” by Prodigy
“War All The Time” by Thursday (Surprisingly had some controversy)
“Closer” by Nine Inch Nails
“Come To Daddy” by Aphex Twins (That scares the hell out of me)
“Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana
Finally the one I can’t believe hasn’t been mentioned…
Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. At the time, lets be honest, an underage girl in catholic school clothes and a half folded in shirt basically dry humping the floor and a basketball.
joshua | 9/8/2007, 1:01 am EST
total eclipse of the heart by bonnie tyler.

the ultimate in outrageous music videos.
niggaface | 9/8/2007, 2:09 am EST
“dancin’ in the streets,” by david bowie and mick jagger terrifies the living shit out of me ’til this very day. maybe that should be on the list.
DrJ | 9/8/2007, 3:09 am EST
I’d say the video Francis Ford Coppola did for “The End” by the Doors, complete with napalm clouds, drunken mirror punching, and animal/human sacrifice, also known as the opening and closing scenes of “Apocalypse Now”
big poppa pump | 9/8/2007, 3:43 am EST

Rob | 9/8/2007, 5:15 am EST
Rammstein – Mein Teil
Dracula68 | 9/8/2007, 5:20 am EST
How about the Stonehenge moment in This Is Spinal Tap? We have dwarf exploitation AND a Stonehenge replica in danger of being crushed. Outrageous, excessive and HILARIOUS.
El Toro | 9/8/2007, 5:24 am EST
I’d have to say Chris Cunningham’s video to “Come to Daddy” by Aphex Twin. It’s definitely the best of ‘em all!
Ragin Johnny Chubb | 9/8/2007, 10:13 am EST

pete | 9/8/2007, 11:41 am EST
fluorescent adolescent – arctic monkeys
most f***ed up video ever!!!!
Dardo | 9/8/2007, 1:43 pm EST
“God”, by Tori Amos (a kick in the a*s to all the religions, especially the comparison of the jew guy with a drug addict).
“Closer”, by Nine Inch Nails.
“The beautiful people”, by Marilyn Manson (oh, c’mon, “Heart shaped glasses” is not even interesting).
“Pagan poetry”, by Björk.
And, the most violent video that I’ve seen is of a guy from Venezuela called Delfín. He made a song called “Torres Gemelas” (Twin Towers in spanish). It is a dance song with a terrible lyric about how his girlfriend died on 9/11. But everything is so awful that is really disturbing.
sidestage | 9/8/2007, 2:14 pm EST
schism – tool
TGD | 9/8/2007, 2:18 pm EST
Outrageous = “Happiness in slavery” by NIN

dupacrash | 9/8/2007, 9:53 pm EST
“push it” by garbage. nine years after it came out i can watch it now and still see something i never saw before. mtv was dead to me after this original and unique video was beaten out for video of the year by the backstreet boys.
thezero | 9/8/2007, 11:10 pm EST
public enemy – son of a bush
skinny puppy – worlock
nas – hate me now
george michael – i want your sex
and as for the video for “they don’t care about us” by mj, the original video for the song set in the prison was the controversial version as i recall… and even then, the controversey was more about the song than the video for the use of the word kike…
Amphetadex | 9/9/2007, 12:02 am EST
Aphex Twin “Come to Daddy”
Aphex Twin “Windowlicker”

Peter Gabriel “Sledgehammer”. What a great video-dancing chickens and everything, it just never stopped. Great video…”Big Time” was in the same vein, just not as great.

How could nobody mention Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time.” Let’s be honest, not as disgusting or freaky as Closer/Come To Daddy or Smack My Bitch Up BUT at the time think about it. An underage girl in an apparent catholic school, in catholic school girl outfit but then rolling it up. She then procedes to hump the hell out of a basketball and a gym floor. First of its kind with a sexually provacative minor.
Name Here | 9/9/2007, 12:24 pm EST

Many people have mentioned Aphex Twin’s “Come to Daddy”; other Aphex/Chris Cunningham collaberations worth adding and “Windowlicker” and “Rubber Johnny”. Others to think about -
UNKLE – “Rabbit in Your Headlights”
Mogwai – “Hunted by a Freak”
Daft Punk – “Interstella 5555″, an entire anime film set to every track on the album Discovery

Videos ??? Where can you go to see videos these days ???
I WANT MY MTV… circa-1982
The Tube Music Network was in the Pittsburgh market temporarily, and all they did was show videos (honest !!!)
MTV and VH1 need to dissolve, and start from scratch.
Buckethead | 9/10/2007, 1:05 pm EST
Happiness in Slavery- NIN
Pagan Poetry- Bjork
Heart-Shaped Box- Nirvana
Rabbit in Your Headlights- UNKLE
Come Undone- Robbie Williams (even crazier than Rock DJ)
The Saint | 9/10/2007, 2:55 pm EST
Anythin by P. Diddy, like “Victory” are outrageous as hell. Also, any Tool video will do. they are exteremely complex and epic. I’d say Pearl Jam’s Do the Evolution is more controversial than Jeremy.
what is a music video | 9/10/2007, 4:15 pm EST
i’m sorry, i don’t know what a music video is, i remember something of the sort when i was kid, but wouldn’t know where to find one today.
Johnny Kickass | 9/10/2007, 4:43 pm EST
The already mentioned Prodigy and NIN videos are the most outrageous – pretty hard to top.
But, I’m surprised nobody mentioned MSTRKRFT – ‘Easy Love’…no nudity but it’s so dirty I’m surprised it was even shown on tv.
jerk | 9/10/2007, 6:56 pm EST
“I Know What Boys Like”-The Waitresses
“I Touch Myself”-The Divynyls
Michael Jackson should not be part of this discussion-sicko, yes, outrageous? I don’t CARE if he touches himself
