- The new Radiohead album is “done,” according to guitarist Jonny Greenwood. Unfortunately, there’s no indication when the LP, which was teaser-trailered a few months back, will be released. The band is still without a label, but we’re pretty sure there has to be one record company out there daring enough to take a flyer on the band. One thing we do know: You won’t hear it this year.
- The oft-delayed R. Kelly child pornography trial has tentatively been rescheduled for Spring 2008 because the judge must oversee a murder trial that starts in February of next year. Kelly faces fourteen counts of child pornography, and up to fifteen years in prison if convicted. The new start date for the trial will be announced Monday, September 10th.
- Björk announced on her Web site that she might release a “special live session album” by the end of the year. She tells Billboard the album was recorded with members of her touring band while in London a few weeks ago.
- It didn’t take Peter Hook long to hook onto a new group after disbanding New Order. He’ll join Smiths bassist Andy Rourke and the Stone Roses’ Mani to form Freebase (or Freebass, depending on where you look). One of the bands’ demos, for the song “I Envy Us,” is currently up on Hook’s MySpace page.
- After foreshadowing aviation inspiration in songs like “Aces High” and “Flight of Icarus,” Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson will serve as the band’s lead singer and pilot during their current tour. Maiden, their road crew, and twelve tons of equipment will load into a modified Astraeus Boeing 757 and shuttle from one tour stop to the next. Of course, no Iron Maiden-manned airplane is complete without band mascot Eddie residing on the tail.
