
- The 21st Annual Bridge School Benefit will take place October 27-28th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, and include performances by Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Vedder with Flea & Jack Irons, Tom Waits and Kronos Quartet, John Mayer, Tegan & Sara, Regina Spektor and Metallica, who blogged about the show on their official site: “Does two acoustic gigs in our hometown mean that we’re sick of the studio again? Nah … not really ….” Young and his wife founded the nonprofit Bridge School to help individuals with severe speech and physical impairments, and much of its yearly funding comes from these concerts. Tickets cost $39.50-$150 and go on sale this Sunday.
- Klaxons have received this year’s Mercury Prize for best album, beating out the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and Amy Winehouse. Winehouse, who had not given a live performance in about a month, appeared onstage to perform a problem-free acoustic rendition of “Love is a Losing Game” from Back to Black.
- My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way reportedly married the bassist of Mindless Self Indulgence in Colorado on Monday following the final show of this year’s Projekt Revolution tour. According to local radio station 93.3 FM, a member of the tour’s Live Nation promotion team who doubles as an ordained minister married the couple in what photos show as a low-key ceremony. In other Way news, a preview of his forthcoming comic The Umbrella Academy is available on its publisher’s site.
- Bo Diddley was released from the hospital over the weekend after suffering a heart attack on August 24th. According to a statement, Diddley is “happy to be home with his family and away from the hospital food.”
