Ted Nugent Told To Dial Back Politics at South Dakota State Fair

8/29/07, 11:02 am EST

Over the past few days, the Web (and the Rock Daily comments section) has been stocked with opinions on Ted Nugent’s August 22nd onstage rant during which he brandished a pair of machine guns and suggested Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama could suck on one of them (a euphemism for “eat lead,” or take a bullet in the throat for those less familiar with metaphor) and Hillary Clinton could ride one (ditto). Now USA Today’s blog has brought our attention to a report from South Dakota TV station KSFY that indicates organizers of the state’s fair, at which Nugent is booked to play Sunday night, have asked the controversial guitarist to take it down a notch. “We don’t approve of what he does at his other concerts, but there’s nothing I can do about that. What I can control is what happens here at the State Fair,” said Fair manager Susan Hayward. “We reminded him [that the Fair is a family show] and they were very courteous in responding immediately in assuring us that that’s exactly what we would have.” Nugent is a true renegade, so it’s anybody’s guess what he’ll decide to say from his pulpit this weekend. Fair officials noted that they sold more tickets for Nugent’s show than any other this year.

“We reminded him [that the Fair is a family show] and they were very courteous in responding immediately in assuring us that that’s exactly what we would have.”

And for this “family show” they brough in an act whose hits include “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Wang, Dang, Sweet Poontang,” and “Wango Tango.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Ted fan. I just think that if the fair wants to squelch political expression that they don’t agree with they should at least be honest about it.

I agree with him. How is this any different than a Liberal musician ranting about he hates Bush? It’s not.

hey jeez | 8/29/2007, 11:45 pm EST

why don’t you take a look at the original post = about 75% of the people posting there said they didn’t hear ted “threaten the life” of anyone; sounds like most people didn’t get the metaphor, guess they’re not smart like you

“a euphemism for “eat lead,” or take a bullet in the throat for those less familiar with metaphor”

i cannot believe that whoever put up this post would even try to explain the phrase made my mr. nugent. dont treat your readers like they’re fifth graders…although considering the covers you guys have put on the front of your rag here recently, i guess fifth graders are your new target audience

Big difference in what Ted Nugent said, and what Rage Against The Machine said.

Rage Against The Machine, suggested that Bush & Co, should be tried as the war criminals they are. Bush is directly responsible for thousands of deaths.

Ted Nugent suggested violent harm to Hilary & Obama, who, last time I checked, haven’t killed anybody.

Why doesn’t this never-really-wuz moron shoot himself with his prize bow and arrow and shut the fuck up??

Marty P. | 8/29/2007, 3:35 pm EST

Ted’s face in the picture looks like Firemarshall Bill from In Living Color.

Lyb Er All | 8/29/2007, 3:03 pm EST

But there is a differance between someone who demonizes folks for being themselves (”dirty hippies”,,,ect), and someone who rants about Bushlike assholes. Its a fine line, but Ted is clearly one who likes to point fingers before looking in the mirror first!! Suck it,,,bitches!!

airick gee | 8/29/2007, 3:02 pm EST

hey idiots, do you really think the nuge and RATM are saying the same things? atleast de la rocha’s comments are based on his delving into social and political matters a bit deeper. just hiding behind a flag and shouting freedom is pretty pathetic these days. nationalism has been out of control for too long. anyone remember the backlash from ice-t and “cop killer”? i doubt nuge will get a reprimand. FREEEE-DUMB!!!

qwertyuio | 8/29/2007, 3:01 pm EST

ted nugent is a musician? since when?

really?

Johnny Kickass | 8/29/2007, 2:30 pm EST

That’s a good point about Rage Against the Machine - they say the same type of shit as Ted Nugent ALL THE TIME and nobody cares.

routte61 | 8/29/2007, 2:17 pm EST

oh my Ted,but why we love it when ur bad!keep on rockin in the free world!!!

brewguy | 8/29/2007, 1:27 pm EST

Double standard? That’s this administration’s raison d’etre. Ted Nugent is just the loudest mouth. Does he really think he’s doing the lameass administration a favor? What a freaking moron.

The Dude | 8/29/2007, 1:27 pm EST

We are still talking about Ted Nugent? Are you kidding me?

El Marko | 8/29/2007, 12:43 pm EST

Where are the calls for banning his records on the radio or boycotting his concerts? The Dixie Chicks only said they were “ashamed” that the President came from Texas, and look what happened. A former First Lady is entitled to just as much respect as a President.

What a double standard!

vince | 8/29/2007, 11:47 am EST

Hate this guy. I wish he would just move and start his own country.

Ted is an idiot.

bukowski | 8/29/2007, 11:45 am EST

First, the pig competition and then Ted Nugent Live !

Ne-Gro | 8/29/2007, 11:27 am EST

What’s the difference between what Ted says and what RATM has said? The hypocrisy in this magazine is laughable.
